    DDB Mudra onboards Priya Shivakumar as creative head

    Mumbai: DDB Mudra has appointed Priya Shivakumar as its new creative head for the South region. She will collaborate closely with DDB Mudra Group CCO Rahul Mathew and share leadership with DDB Mudra president – Growth and Strategy, Menaka Menon.

    Joining DDB Mudra from Wunderman Thompson (JWT), where she rose quickly up the ranks from ECD of Chennai to chief creative officer (South), Priya brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Through her career of over two decades, Priya’s work and creative leadership have won numerous Cannes Lions, D&AD Pencils, One Show Pencils and Spikes Asia, one of the more recent wins being for the “Hidden Truth” , a powerful piece on Domestic Violence.

    Speaking on her new role, “I’m thrilled to join DDB Mudra and contribute to the legacy of creating culturally resonant brands,” Priya said. “These are exciting times where you can take storytelling to new and unexpected places…through technology, craft or experience…”, She added: “I’m looking forward to leveraging the power of emotions in my work, driving choices, creating conversations, shaping markets, and rewriting brand stories.”

    Meanwhile, Rahul Mathew commented, “We have been evolving our offering in the South to go beyond national campaigns and offer specialised expertise for the five south markets. And we believe what will make our solutions even more effective is our creativity. Priya will play a critical role in us achieving this vision for the South office.     Spikes Asia announces its jury presidents

    Mumbai: Spikes Asia, APAC’s most prestigious and sought-after award for creativity and marketing effectiveness, has announced today that submissions are open for 2024, in addition to revealing the jury president line-up.

    2024 sees the highest number of markets represented across the 13 industry experts, which are: Australia, Mainland China, India, Japan, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea and for the first time, a Taiwan-based agency. Dentsu Creative, Taiwan chief creative officer Alice Chou who will preside over the direct and outdoor juries, said: “Spikes Asia is a pivotal creative platform in Asia, and I’m very honoured and thrilled to be representing the first Taiwan-based agency on the Jury President line-up. In this era of profound change, old orders crumble, new platforms emerge, everything is undergoing reinvention. As technology advances, creativity must embrace human wisdom to connect with people, spark conversations, and invite them into this wonderful playground, and take action in the direction we envision. At this moment, as we’re still capable of reshaping the present, I hope to see more remarkable works uniting people and weaving a shared vision of the future we desire.” The Jury Presidents will convene in Singapore with their Juries next year to set the benchmark for creative excellence in APAC for a 37th edition.

    Spikes Asia has also announced changes to the 2024 Awards. New for 2024 are the Gaming Spikes, which will celebrate creative work that connects people to brands through gameplay. Submissions will need to demonstrate how brands successfully tapped into complex gaming communities and seamlessly added real value to the overall gaming experience, while driving commercial success.

    Inaugural jury president of the Gaming Spikes, Octopus&Whale, the Philippines founder & CEO Joey David Tiempo commented: “Being the President of the Entertainment, Music, and Gaming Jury at Spikes Asia is a tremendous honour, especially with the exciting addition of the Gaming Spike in 2024.     Other changes include the strategy & effectiveness Spikes evolving into the creative strategy spikes, celebrating the idea behind the idea and highlighting how strategic planning has the power to reshape a brand, transform its business and shape consumer behaviour. The Media Spikes has been refreshed, with a dedicated section for media agencies and the Mobile Spikes has been retired to reflect how mobile-led creativity has been expanding into almost every Spike.     Leo Burnett Worldwide acquires major stake in Solutions Group in Sri Lanka

    MUMBAI: Leo Burnett Worldwide announced the acquisition of a majority stake in the Solutions Group, a communications company based in Sri Lanka. As part of the acquisition, Leo Burnett Sri Lanka and Arc Worldwide Sri Lanka will now be fully integrated into Publicis Communications, one of Publicis Groupe’s four Solutions hubs regrouping all creative communications activities.

    The Solutions Group was founded in 1999. Since its inception, the company has been headed by communications leader, Ranil de Silva. Today, the company has 81 of the country’s best and brightest professionals whose work has been consistently recognised globally at leading awards shows including Cannes Lions, D&AD, London International, Clio, Adfest, Spikes Asia amongst others. Leo Burnett Sri Lanka’s success across creativity and business has led it to be awarded at Asia-Pacific’s premier Agency of the Year Awards by Campaign Asia three years in a row. This acquisition will complement Leo Burnett’s existing service in the market, delivering best-in-class work and campaigns across the value chain, and creating ideas that truly move people.

First Media will now be fully integrated into the Publicis Groupe.

  • India gets 75 entries shortlisted at Spikes Asia 2012

    MUMBAI: Spikes Asia 2012 announced the shortlists for 10 categories on day one of the festival. India got 75 of its entries shortlisted across the 10 categories announced so far.

    The categories in which shortlists have been announced are- Design, Digital, Direct, Outdoor, Media, Mobile, PR, Print, Print & Poster Craft and Promo & Activation.

    The most number of shortlisted entries from India are 15 from BBDO India. This is followed by DDB Mudra with 11 and Leo Burnett with 10. Ogilvy & Mather has nine entries shortlisted and McCann and Cheil have six each.

    BBDO India has been shortlisted for work on PepsiCo, DHL, P&G Gillette and J&J. Gillette‘s ‘Shave for the soldier‘ campaign has four in the shortlist while Gillette‘s ‘You Shave I Shave‘ has three. DHL has six shortlists. PepsiCo‘s 7 Up ‘Tweetathon‘ and Johnson‘s Baby ‘DIY calendar‘ has also featured in the shortlist.

    DDB Mudra has got its entries shortlisted for its work done for Stedfast – Paper Shredders, Cancer Patients Aid Association, Shree Shakti Ayurvedic Niketan, Golden Beverages- Coffee Gold, Sanctuary Asia, Prism Papyrus, Water Design Studio, PE Electronics – Electrolux Air-Conditioners, Volkswagen – Volkswagen Attention Assist System, Volkswagen – VW Passat, and Blossom Book House.

    Leo Burnett has been shortlisted for P&G – Tide Detergent, Door Step School, Bajaj Electricals- Bajaj Exhaust Fans, Leo Burnett- Gandhiji Font and Coca-Cola India – Coke Studio while Ogilvy & Mather Mumbai has been shortlisted for Perfetti Van Melle India- Mentos Sour Marbels, Cancer Patients Aid Association – Anti-Smoking Initiative.

    McCann WorldGroup India got shortlisted for Mumbai Western Union -Money Transfer, Perfetti Van Melle – Big Babol, Videocon- Videocon Refrigerator, Mankind Pharma – Gas-O-Fast, Zee Network – Dish TV, ATSS – Security Solutions.

    Nominations for Film and Print Craft, Branded Content, Creative-Effectiveness and Integrated are still to be announced.

    The winners of the metals will be announced at the awards night on Tuesday 19th September 2012.

    The Spike Asia Awards are awards for creative communications. They reward the best entries in Film, Print, Outdoor, Radio, Digital, Direct, Promo & Activation, Media, Design, Film Craft, Print & Poster Craft, Integrated, Mobile, PR, Branded Content & Entertainment and Creative Effectiveness.

    The entries are judged by leading international and regional creatives in Singapore during the week of the Festival.
