L&T Finance bowls a yorker with Jasprit Bumrah in new TVC

MUMBAI: Talk about delivering at pace! L&T Finance Ltd. (LTF) has just dropped a high-octane TV commercial titled ‘Just Zoom Two-wheeler Loans,’ and it’s got more zip than a Jasprit Bumrah bouncer. With the speedster himself front and centre, the campaign cheekily pitches LTF’s loan process as being just as fast and precise as Bumrah’s bowling.

Launched to coincide with the cricket frenzy of the Asia Cup 2025, where LTF is the associate sponsor on the Sony TV broadcast network, the ad is set in a swanky two-wheeler showroom. The moment of magic? As a hesitant customer wonders about the speed of loan approvals, a TV in the background shows Bumrah charging in. In perfect sync with his iconic run-up and wicket-taking delivery, the loan is approved in real time: documents uploaded, processed, and done.

The spot cleverly underlines the brand’s tagline ‘Bumrah ki speed par’, marrying cricket fever with financial speed, thanks to LTF’s proprietary AIML-powered credit engine, ‘Project Cyclops’. This tech marvel whirs behind the scenes, assessing credit worthiness instantly and delivering approvals with, well, Bumrah-esque precision.

“We wanted the film to be as sharp and direct as a Bumrah yorker,” said LTF, chief marketing officer, Kavita Jagtiani. “From instant approvals to AI-powered personalisation, the campaign captures everything we stand for: speed, precision, and simplicity.”

But this isn’t just a TV play. LTF is rolling out a full-throttle integrated marketing campaign across 13 cities, including hoardings, metro branding, airport takeovers, inflight magazine placements, and even a WhatsApp bot to help you finance your dream bike with a few taps.

And there’s more for cricket buffs – an AI-powered ‘Bowl like Bumrah’ contest invites fans to mimic the pacer’s style and speed for a chance to win exciting prizes, including Bumrah-signed gloves. The digital buzz is further amped up through an influencer campaign and a social media blitz.

Viewers can catch the TVC on Sony Sports (in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Malayalam), as well as Sony Pix, Sony Max, Sony Wah, and their HD variants.

  • Star Gold banks on latest Bollywood movies for viewership

Star Gold banks on latest Bollywood movies for viewership

MUMBAI: There’s no genre more cluttered with channels than Hindi movies. Channels need to bank on a mix of movies including Bollywood, Hollywood and regional dubbed ones to get audience attention.

According to BARC data, in 2017, the viewership in this genre raked an average at 4163 million GVTs, leading to 4733 million GVTs in 2018 in 2+, HSM U+R.

Speaking about Star Gold, the channel is Bollywood-heavy with 70 per cent viewership coming from Hindi content. The channel claims to deliver the top Bollywood premiers among the Hindi movie channels. The network had acquired TV and digital rights in 2017 of six unreleased films like Golmaal Again, Judwa 2, Sanju, Baaghi 2, Raid and Aiyaari.

Star Gold will continue to focus on Bollywood blockbusters. The channel’s upcoming line-up includes Stree, Kaala, Total Dhamaal, Kalank, Super 30 and Ranveer Singh’s next film on the 1983 world cup. Among previous premieres Bajrangi Bhaijaan garnered 17.7 million, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo raked 17.3 million, Judwa 2 received 10.9 million and Golmaal Again received 12.1 million impressions in the urban market.

Star India Hindi movie business EVP and GM Hemal Jhaveri said that the last three biggest premieres, Judwa 2, Golmaal Again and Baaghi 2 rated above four TVR on Star Gold. “A consistent strategy of always maintaining a bank of top Bollywood titles every year has worked for us. We have never strayed away from Bollywood. We are no longer a snacking category. Both premieres and repeat airings get consistently high ratings,” he said.

When asked about his strategy for the acquisition of movies, Jhaveri said, “Our strategy is very simple and perhaps it has really worked for us. We are not content racist about dubbed content, English or Hindi content, it is the content which a viewer would love to watch and we acquire it.” He said that the basis of any channel that doesn’t produce anything is curation and Star Gold heavily works on curated content.

More than 40 per cent viewership of the Hindi movie channels comes from the releases of the last three years from the urban 15+ males viewers. Women delivered higher ratings on the premieres of Golmaal Again as well as Judwaa 2. The cluster’s rural reach portfolio is 189 million individuals on an average for the last 13 weeks (2+, HSM rural).

In BARC week 30 in HSM (U+R) : NCCS All : 2+ Individuals, Sony Max emerged as a leader with 693696 impressions (000s) sum. Sony Wah, Star Utsav Movies, Zee Cinema and Star Gold stood at second, third, fourth and fifth positions with 592195 impressions (000s) sum, 551341 impressions (000s) sum, 547194 impressions (000s) sum and 445783 impressions (000s) sum respectively.

  • Pro Wrestling League rallies on North India viewership

Pro Wrestling League rallies on North India viewership

MUMBAI: The third edition of the Pro Wrestling League (PWL) proved to be a hit among the younger viewers while attracting audiences of all age groups. Moreover, 77 per cent of the viewership came from North India for the season.

The season saw top wrestlers from 17 countries participate in the league. It also provided a great platform for India’s young and talented players to compete, and learn from, in close quarters with Olympic and world champions. The league was on air from 9 January till 26 January 2018.

According to Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) all India data, the league garnered a total of 66,444 impressions (000s) sum, out of which 30 per cent of the viewership, or 20,125 impressions (000s) sum, was contributed by Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. North India contributed to 77 per cent of the total viewership. Viewers under 30 made up 55 per cent of the viewership.

Speaking about the impressive television numbers, ProSportify founder and promoter Kartikeya Sharma said, “Sports like wrestling have not got the attention that mainstream sports get in India. The latest BARC India ratings are proof that there is huge viewership for such sports, especially wrestling, if they are packaged properly.”

The league was watched by 45 per cent female fans. The age group of 15-21 years contributed to 20 per cent of the total viewership.

All the Sony Pictures Network channels, which telecast the 18-day league, featuring over 24 Olympians, 10 Rio Olympic medallists, 14 world champions and six continental champions, witnessed exponential growth in viewership during the tournament. Sony Wah, Sony ESPN and ESPN HD aired the league live.

“Even more heartening for us sports lovers is that people are enthusiastically watching other sports, too, like wrestling, kabaddi, badminton and football. It is not just about cricket any longer in the country and that is very significant as it will eventually help India become a multi-sport viewing nation,” said Sharma.

“This is a welcome change and we feel proud to be a part of the revolution to create space for sports other than cricket. We are particularly delighted to see a surge of interest among urban and new viewers, adding substantially to the rural and existing fans,” he added.

India is making the transition from being a single-sport nation to a multi-sport-viewing nation as domestic leagues of sports such as wrestling, kabaddi, badminton and football are creating their own fan base.

  • FreeDish goes for second auction in May

NEW DELHI: After bagging three new general entertainment channels earlier this month, Doordarshan is all set for the 35th e-auction for its DTH platform FreeDish next week, thus marking the first time when a second e-auction is being held within the same month.

The e-auction confined to only non-news and current affairs channels is set for 25 May 2017 will have a reserve price of Rs 80 million as in the e-auction held on 9 May when Sony Wah, Zee Anmol Cinema, and 9X Jalwa successfully bid to come on the platform. Each bid came at the reserve price, Rs 80 million. The Parliament was informed earlier last month that Doordarshan’s DTH platform was soon getting approval to increase this capacity to 250 channels over the next two years.

But, DD got a jolt last month when its 33rd e-auction slated for 11 April could not be held. Although there was no official confirmation, indiantelevision.com learnt that FreeDish auction could not be held because there were no applicants. After final trials of MPEG4 and the success of the 32nd auction in February, the reserve price for the next auction has been raised to Rs 80 million from Rs 48 million per slot.

Until last year, the reserve price was Rs 43 million but one channel fetched the bid of Rs 70 million in the auction held on 14 February 2017.

Earlier last year, the price for one channel went up to Rs 53 million and gave DD the confidence to raise the price which had been Rs 37 million till 2015 but was raised to Rs 43 million for the 25th e-auction in January 2016.

The e-Auction will be conducted by M/s. C1 India Pvt. Ltd., Noida which also conducted the FM Radio Phase III auctions on behalf of Prasar Bharati.
The participation amount (EMD) in the e-Auction is Rs.28 million – up from Rs 15 million – which has to be deposited in advance before or by 12 noon on the date of auction along with processing fee of Rs.25,000 (non-refundable, up from Rs 10,000) in favour of PB (BCI) Doordarshan Commercial Service, New Delhi.

Incremental amount for the auction will be Rs One Million and the time for every slot e-auction will be of fifteen minutes duration. This may be extended by five minutes if a bid is received before the closing time.

Unsuccessful bidders will get back the participation amount of Rs 28 million within three weeks of the results.

However, Doordarshan has changed its payment regimen and made it stricter.

The first installment of 25 per cent of the bid price with the applicable service tax will have to be paid within one month from date of placement of channel.

The second installment of 25 per cent of the total bid price along with the applicable service tax will have to be paid within four months of placement of channel.

The third installment of remaining amount after adjusting the participation fee and previous installments but adding the applicable service tax will be deposited within seven months of placement of channel.

If any of the installments is not paid in time, a penal interest of 14.5 per cent per annum will be levied.

If there is failure in depositing an installment for two months, the deposited participation amount along with any installment paid will be forfeited and the channel discontinued after a 21-day discontinuation notice.

Doordarshan had in October last year formally announced that FreeDish was capable of carrying 104 television channels and 24 channels would be added to the existing 80 channels after the launch of MPEG4 technology.

In line with the ‘Digital India’ and ‘Make in India’, DD has implemented Indian CAS (iCAS) on DD FreeDish Platform. iCAS (which is an initiative of the central government) was introduced in the auction held last month. The introduction of iCAS will provide enhanced viewing experience.

DD officials said the existing viewers will continue to get 80 SDTV channels and 32 radio channels, but will have to obtain iCAS-enabled authorized set-top boxes for accessing all new channels.

Although Free Dish will remain free-to-air with no monthly or periodic fee, the viewers will be required to register with DD FreeDish on getting the new STB from Doordarshan authorized STB dealers.

DD officials said implementation of iCAS and authorisation of STB original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) by Doordarshan will give a major thrust to ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’. At present, a majority of STBs are imported. However, the introduction of iCAS will help in standardization of STBs and encourage quality STB manufacturing in India.

With analogue having been switched off, Parliament had been told that many stakeholders feel that FreeDish is the best option in Phase IV which covers rural India.

FreeDish was launched with a modest bouquet of 33 channels in December 2004, and now carries eighty TV channels and 32 radio channels. This includes 22 Doordarshan channels and two parliamentary channels, seven general entertainment channels, 18 movie channels, 13 news channels, seven music channels, three religious channels and eight channels of other genres. The All-India Radio stations also piggy-back on the platform.

NEW DELHI: Three general entertainment channels – Sony Wah, Zee Anmol Cinema, and 9X Jalwa – have bagged three slots on Doordarshan’s DTH platform FreeDish.

Incremental amount for the auction was Rs One Million. Of the bid price, Rs 11 million will be deposited within one month of placement and another Rs 11 million within two months along with service tax of 15 per cent on the bid amount.

The balance bid amount will be deposited within six months, failing which the deposited amount will be forfeited and the channel discontinued after a 21-day discontinuation notice. The participation fee will be adjusted against the third and final installment for the respective channel.

A new era begun with the adoption of MPEG4 helping FreeDish take the first major step to mark towards its target of 104 television channels by March end with its 32nd e-auction which helped it cross the capacity of eighty channels. FreeDish touched the figure of 104 with its 32nd Auction.
