    Nachiket Pantvaidya appointed as general manager, Sony Pictures International Productions – India

    Mumbai: Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that veteran executive Nachiket Pantvaidya has been appointed as general manager of Sony Pictures International Productions (SPIP), India.

    In this role, Nachiket will oversee local Indian production while working alongside Shony Panjikaran (general manager and head of Sony Pictures Releasing International, India).

    Sony Pictures International Production EVP, creative production and head Shebnem Askin said, “Sanford Panitch and I are so pleased to have Nachiket join the Sony Pictures International Productions to lead our local Indian production. These are exciting times as we take a step to make and release our biggest local slate for the Indian market in the next two years. We are most excited as Nachiket brings along not only rich industry experience but also new energy and dynamic execution skills to lead SPIP to a prime position.”

    Commenting on his appointment, Nachiket Pantvaidya said, “I am pleased to lead and nurture our creative and business forces to ensure that we best serve our movie audiences, especially in these dynamic times where the creative and business parameters for movie making in India are being redefined. We are aiming to scale our output to not only match audience expectations, but also to ensure that the right cohorts get to see the movie of their choice on the distribution medium of their choice. I hope to partner fruitfully with the players in the market and with Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) and optimize SPIP’s strength going ahead.”

    In his earlier assignments, Nachiket was group CEO, Balaji Telefilms, business head of Sony Entertainment Television. He was also the business head of Star Plus and held several roles in the Star TV network, including head of Star Pravah and managing director of Fox Television Studios. An IIM-Ahmedabad alumnus, he has also held key management roles in BBC and Disney.

    As he takes up this new assignment, he will continue to perform his duties as CEO, Sony Entertainment Talent Ventures in parallel.

    Sony Pictures International Productions India elevates Ritesh Arora as the head of business affairs

    MUMBAI: Sony Pictures International Productions (SPIP) India has elevated Ritesh Arora as the head of business affairs. Ritesh will oversee commercials and project acquisitions at SPIP India, as well as work to maximise revenue potential. He will report to  SPIP India general manager & head Lada Guruden Singh.

    Ritesh has been with Sony Pictures since 2015 and was most recently in charge of commercials and acquisitions. He has over two decades of experience in exhibition, distribution, and content acquisition.

    Ritesh Arora said, “It will be really exciting to look at new business development opportunities and also align them to the financial and growth targets of the company. Sony Pictures International Productions has made huge strides in India and to now deliver even more diverse and multilingual stories to Indian audiences across all formats is our dream.”

    SPIP, co-headed by Shebnem Askin and Michael Rifkin, is the local-language production arm of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group, which releases more than 30 films per year across 12 territories worldwide.

    Sony Pictures signs three-film deal with international producers

    MUMBAI: Sony Pictures International Productions (SPIP) has inked a deal with Mexico and Los Angeles-based producers Eduardo Cisneros and Jason Shuman. With this multi-picture development, the producers will write and produce three new feature films with the studio.

    The partnership furthers Sony Pictures’ strategy to broaden its global presence and its support of local-language productions.

    SPIP EVP – business affairs and operations Laine Kline is of the opinion that it is an ongoing priority for the studio to serve its Spanish-speaking audiences in Latin America and the United States. “Cisneros and Shuman have an exceptional track record for capturing several such important communities and beyond,” said Kline in a statement.

    Cisneros is working with the Latin American film industry from some time and was the associate producer on Eugenio Derbez’s Instructions Not Included. He is also the co-creator of the TV comedy series Familia P. Luche and XHDRBZ.

    As part of a partnership with Universal TV, he teamed with Aseem Batra to develop a single-camera comedy Don’t Judge Me for ABC. On the other hand, Shuman has produced over 20 films like Role Models, Lone Survivor, Rebel In The Rye, etc.

    Cisneros is represented by Valor Entertainment Group, WME, and Ziffren Brittenham whereas Shuman is represented by CAA and McKuin Frankel Whitehead.

    The two of them started working together in 2014 to become Cisneros & Shuman team. Among many projects they have created are – Fox feature comedy Upgrade and the 20th Television/FBC pilot Star-Crossed.
