    MUMBAI: 9XO, the international music channel from 9X Media is providing One Direction fans in India, an opportunity never to be missed.  The channel in association with Sony Music is the official partner celebrating the 1 D Day in India. 9XO has launched a contest titled ‘Teach 1D to dance Bollywood style,’ offering the viewers an opportunity to teach some cool Bollywood style dancing to this popular English-Irish pop boy band.

Being the official partner of 1 D Day, 9XO will also premiere their latest song Story of My Life exclusively in India. The channel has also created the ‘Teach 1D to dance Bollywood style’ contest for the fans to showcase their love for One Direction.

    Known for its marketing innovations with every release, Sony Music introduced a first of its kind concept for Dharma Productions’ Gori Tere Pyaar Mein. A special video teaser featuring Kareena Kapoor who will be introducing the brand new song Tooh will be launched on Gaana.com on 8 October where in every time a user logs on to the website, they will get to listen and view the teaser.

     

    Commenting on the same, Sony Music India marketing director Sanujeet Bhujabal said, “The film and its music has huge anticipation in the minds of the fans and they are waiting for the songs and the look of the film with bated breath.     Sony Music Jive claims to be most downloaded app

    MUMBAI: Sony Music Jive has claimed to be the most downloaded and accepted app. The app, launched six months back, was created for making legitimate music easy to use for customers. Launched by Sony Music India, the app is also a part of the Sony Xperia range of handsets and the new Sony Vaio range of laptops.

    Sony Music Jive allows consumers to download and stream unlimited music for free for a period of six months after which the consumer has to pay a nominal monthly fee.

    Sony Music Jive president India and Middle East Shridhar Subramaniam said, “Sony Music Jive is our foray into directly engaging with consumer by offering them a unique and compelling digital music proposition. It has been more than six months since the service was launched and we have been very encouraged by the consumer response. As a brand, we have been doing a number of digital innovations and the launch of this new hybrid application is another such.”

     The users can browse through over two million songs across multiple genres -pop, rock, reggae, hip hop, country, classical, dance, Indian regional, Bollywood and download to create a playlist or just listen on the go.  Sony Music Jive has access to iconic Bollywood soundtracks – Lagaan, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Guru , Kal Ho Na Ho, Rang De Basanti, Dostana, Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gam, Jannat, Student of the Year, Agneepath, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Raanjhaana to 100 years of international music ranging from iconic and pop artists such as Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen, Whitney Houston, Aerosmith, Bob Dylan, Micheal Jackson, Santana, AR Rahman, Shakira, Beyonce, Keisha, Pitbull to pop stars like KK, Lucky Ali, Strings, Daler Mehendi, Harris Jayraj, Kailash Kher and more.

  • Anubhav Sinha’s Benaras Mediaworks spreads social awareness

    MUMBAI: Anubhav Sinha‘s Benaras MediaWorks announced their latest project ‘Sare Jahan Se‘. The production house will create a touching three minute video in an effort to combat the general attitude of intolerance or immunity towards the underprivileged children in the country coinciding the same with the Nation‘s 67th Independence Day.

     

    Directed by two new directors under the Benaras MediaWorks banner, the special video will have Director Gurmmeet Singh (director of the upcoming film Warning) and Director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat direct Sare Jahan Se. The video will showcase heart-warming scenes from the streets of Mumbai with the lyrics being sung by underprivileged street children.

     

    Speaking on the occasion, co-producer Mushtaq Shiekh said, “Over time we have found that our society has become immune to the reality of the poor in our country. This is our small contribution that we hope will stir the same emotion in people and hopefully encourage them to make a small effort or contribution towards those who are less fortunate that us.”

    The song will be released exclusively by Sony Music India and will be available across all digital platforms.

    The song has been composed/produced by John Stewart (music producer of Warning) with one track being rendered by Sonu Niigaam.

    The video will be released online on the eve of Independence Day on Benaras MediaWorks‘ YouTube channel. The movement is aimed at using technology and music together to send out an impactful message and implementing real change among modern society.

    Sony Music appoints Celine Joshua as senior VP digital sales

    MUMBAI: Sony Music Entertainment has announced new appointments to the US division of their sales team. Celine Joshua has been appointed as senior VP of digital sales and Scott Van Horn has been appointed as senior vice president of sales, commercial group.

    “Celine and Scott are both accomplished sales executives. With their strong partner relationships and proven understanding of the industry, we are well positioned for continued success moving forward,” said Sony Music Entertainment executive VP of Sales & Distribution Darren Stupak on the appointments.

    Joshua will be responsible for growing Sony’s business with digital partners, along with managing key digital accounts, and driving digital product development for Sony artists and labels. Prior to joining Sony Music, Joshua worked for Walt Disney Studios and served as head of digital Commerce where she oversaw the global digital platforms for artists from the Disney Music Group. Prior to joining Disney in 2011, she spent over five years at Warner Music Group’s Rhino Entertainment, where she helped launch the Led Zeppelin catalog globally and oversaw international sales.

    Scott Van Horn, who was named senior VP of sales, Commercial Music Group (CMG), will now oversee all aspects of sales for CMG’s Legacy, catalog, and non-traditional sales businesses. In his new role, Van Horn will work in close coordination with CMG president Richard Story and the CMG senior management team.

    Prior to his new appointment, Van Horn served as VP of sales for Legacy where he was responsible for developing and driving retail sales programs for a number of Legacy brand initiatives. Van Horn previously served as director of sales for Universal Music and Video distribution where he managed sales efforts for catalog programs and new catalog releases. He previously held sales roles at DreamWorks’ music division and Interscope/Geffen/A&M Records.

    NEW DELHI: Nine young participants in Sony TV’s Indian Idol Junior singing talent hunt, aged between eight and fifteen, have rendered an Indian song called “Na Na Na (Nice vs Naughty)” in the dubbed Hindi version of Sony Pictures’ Smurfs 2, being released on 2 August.

     

    To be released by Sony Music, the song features Chennai-based viral sensation Adhi of HipHop Tamizha (pronounced “Tamila”) whose hit “Club le Mabbu le” has garnered over 2.1 million views on YouTube.

     

    They join an illustrious group of top international artistes. The film’s international soundtrack features Britney Spears’ hit “Ooh La La”. Other major international artistes that have shown some Smurf love include Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Smurfy” (a remake of their classic “I’m Too Sexy”) and LMFAO’s “I’m Vexy and I Know It” (remake of their super-hit “I’m Sexy and I Know It”).

     

    Sony Music will make the song available across all digital platforms. The film itself is being released in 3D in both Hindi and English.

     

    In this sequel to Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures Animation’s hybrid live action/animated family blockbuster comedy The Smurfs, the evil wizard Gargamel creates a couple of mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties that he hopes will let him harness the all-powerful, magical Smurf-essence. But when he discovers that only a real Smurf can give him what he wants, and only a secret spell that Smurfette knows can turn the Naughties into real Smurfs, Gargamel kidnaps Smurfette and brings her to Paris, where he has been winning the adoration of millions as the world’s greatest sorcerer. It’s up to Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy, and Vanity to return to our world, reunite with their human friends Patrick and Grace Winslow, and rescue her.

     

    The film is directed by Raja Gosnell and produced by Jordan Kerner. The screenplay is by J. David Stem and David N. Weiss and Jay Scherick and David Ronn and Karey Kirkpatrick with a story by J. David Stem and David N. Weiss and Jay Scherick and David Ronn, and is based on the Characters and Works of Peyo.

     

    The story of the Smurfs started in 1958 with the creation of comic books which were later brought to both the big and small screen. Over the years, the little blue characters haven’t just limited themselves to the page and the screen. They have inspired records and CDs that have sold millions of copies, entire collections of figurines and toys, and many more products. In all, more than 3,000 derived products have been produced and leading brands and companies have spread their messages worldwide with the help of the Smurfs.

    MUMBAI: Sony Music in an effort to give its fans more has released the Making of the Legend – a film showcasing the journey of Farhan Akhtar to achieve an athletic body similar to what Milkha Singh had during his championship days.

    Says FarhanAkhtar, “Six months of training, four-five hours over two sessions, six days a week got me to be like this.”

    Composed by the musical trio Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy with Prasoon Joshi‘s lyrics, Sony Music released the music of the film in May 2013 and received instant success with each song. Zinda has become a youth anthem; MeraYaar exudes a romantic feel while the title track Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is motivation for one and all.

    This is the brands‘ second project with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, after Rang De Basanti, which adds another feather to Sony Music‘s repertoire. Co-produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is based on the biography of India‘s most prominent athlete, Milkha Singh which is played by the multi-faceted actor Farhan Akhtar in a pivotal role.

    Prime Focus Tech pockets cloud computing orders from broadcasters & studios

    MUMBAI: Media and entertainment companies have been sailing on the cloud of cloud computing. And one of the companies that is bearing the fruits of this is Prime Focus Technologies (PFT), the technology arm of media and entertainment services leader Prime Focus.

    PFT today announced that it has secured orders worth Rs 2 billion in the previous quarter from existing and new clients in India, and the US which are to be executed over the next three to five years.

    The company was unwilling to name the clients on account of NDAs with them. All it said was that the new clients include the world‘s largest news aggregator, a prominent Indian studio and a new Indian television channel, each of which have signed multi-year deals for PFT‘s Hybrid Cloud Technology – Clear, a cloud-based Media ERP and technology infrastructure platform that helps manage the business processes of M&E companies.

    PFT works with major content owners like Star India, Eros International, Sony Music, Viacom 18, Multiscreen Media BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), the IPL (Indian Premiere League), Hindustan Unilever, The Associated Press, A & E TV Network, Netflix, Schawk! and WPP.

    Says PFT founder, president & CEO Ramki Sankaranarayanan: “Increasingly M&E companies are adopting cloud technologies across the enterprise content operations. They are not only migrating to digital file-based workflows but starting to adopt a Media ERP solution to manage the business processes around content. Clear‘s proven credential of managing over 300,000 hours of content is helping the growth of our order book.”

    Meanwhile, parent company Prime Focus today announced that it has entered into an initial non-binding memorandum of understanding with US-based Medient Studios. Under this, Prime Focus and Medient shall execute a definitive agreement within 90 days for the provision of production and post-production equipment, work flow technology and skill transfer by the former for the latter‘s megastudio project.

    Medient chairman & CEO Manu Kumaran has ambitious plans to develop a 1500 acre site in Effingham, Georgia, in the US which will house movie studios, entertainment facilities and a campus at an initial investment of $90 million. He estimates that the Prime Focus contribution is worth in excess of $40 million.

    MUMBAI: Sony music has teamed up with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Viacom18 for the music rights of the biopic – Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

    After ‘Rang De Basanti‘s musical success, this is the second project with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra that adds another feather to Sony music‘s list. Co-produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is based on the life of athlete, Milkha Singh. The title character is which is played by actor Farhan Akhtar.

    The music is composed by the musical trio Shankar – Ehsaan – Loy with lyrics by Prasoon Joshi.

    Sony Music Entertainment president India and middle east Shridhar Subramaniam said, "Our journey with Rakeysh began in the year 2005 with Rang De Basanti wherein we worked very closely with his team and created a huge success. Today while we work with him on Bhaag Milkha Bhaag we are all geared up to put in the same passion and energy. We are extremely confident of the subject and the music as it‘s an integral part of the film."

    He further adds, "Prasoon Joshi‘s lyrics in Rang De Basanti elevated the musical experience and we are sure it will be the same this time too while Shankar Ehsaan and Loy always bring a fresh new angle to the music. At Sony Music, it‘s always a pleasure to work with Viacom 18 and we together will ensure a great musical journey for the listeners."

    Mehra adds, "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag has been the most challenging experience. I have felt growth within myself as a film maker. The songs of the film is what a soul is to a body, we are lucky that Shridhar and his passionate team at Sony Music have joined hands and have become an integral part of the BMB family".

    The music will roll out in May and the movie is slated for release in theatres on 12 July.
