Kamasutra 3D in the contention list for Oscars 2014 in three categories

New Delhi: Rupesh Paul’s Kamasutra 3D figures in the contention list of the 86th Academy Awards, with selection in the three categories – Best Motion Picture, Original Score and Original Song with five songs.

It is the only movie from India contending in the music category lists. The results were announced on yesterday by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences on its official website.

Kamasutra 3D has been slated for a 23 May 2014 release after its premiere.

Presented by Dr George John (GJ Entertainments) and produced under the house of Rupesh Paul Productions (RPPL), in co-production and project design by Sohan Roy, Kamasutra 3D is the only movie with five songs after The Great Gatsby to be selected in the Original Song category. The songs include – Aygiri Nandini, Saawariya, I Felt, Of Soil and Har Har Mahadeva – composed by Chennai based music directors, Sachin and Sreejith while its lyrics are penned by Rupesh Paul and Pratyush Prakash.

Also scripted and penned by Rupesh Paul, the movie is set in the backdrop of the real historical milieu portraying the journey of a soulful love embodied with betrayal and war. It weaves the transformative changes in body, mind and soul by the forbidden world of sexual love and sensuality.

Recently, with the release of its work-in-progress trailer, Kamasutra 3D critically came out to be more of a Hollywood war based epic movie than a classic erotica, it hyped to be with the sensuous Sherlyn Chopra, initially.

Director Rupesh Paul, however, confirmed that he would not disappoint his viewers expecting the movie to be a classic erotica.

Speaking on the Oscar entry, he stated, “Probably now we have an answer for all of them who claimed the movie to be a soft porn. Hopefully, they know that soft porns are not eligible for the Academy Award nominations”. He would his movie to be considered a musical than epic or erotica as Kamasutra 3D is influenced with its melody over the drama.

After creating the best of pre sale records at the Cannes Film Festival 2013 and the American Film Market 2013 with its sale in most of the territories, Kamasutra 3D is all hopeful to make it in the final nominations of the categories in the 86th Academy Awards to be announced on 16 January, 2014 in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

  • Activities of NRI Film Producers Association kick starts at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

Activities of NRI Film Producers Association kick starts at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

MUMBAI: Non Resident Indian Producers Association (NRIPA) on Wednesday kick started its journey in making films at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas conference in Kochi.

All this was at the behest of renowned filmmaker and president of NRIPA Sohan Roy who gained international acceptance and recognition by his film DAM 999. NRIPA has been formed with an aim to be the most useful and efficient association in the film industry by promoting new generation film makers and nurturing a fresh culture within the industry.

Talking at the launch, Roy said, “As a producer of my first project, I have learnt that making films in India provides a big heap of opportunity for any producer to make money but I also learnt the hard fact that the most first timers don‘t make it into the profit zone purely because of their ignorance.

You will also be surprised to know the reality that the largest film producing nation in the world has the least presence in international film circuits. Indian films rarely make attempts to make their presence felt at the 40 internationally recognized film marketing zones. This is purely because of the ignorance about the opportunities existing outside. With NRIPA I would like to obliterate this ignorance by giving my fellow film makers the right guidance.”

NRIPA has launched with the major objective of bringing enthusiastic potential NRI producers to invest in the brand called ‘Film India‘ and to ensure profitable returns to the investment.

Saint Dracula 3D the world‘s first 3D Dracula movie is the first project under NRIPA. It has already made it into the Oscar selections in different categories this year with the help of NRIPA.

3 films from Reliance DreamWorks nominated for Oscars

MUMBAI: Three films namely War Horse, The Help and Real Steel from Reliance DreamWorks have garnered eleven Oscar Nominations.

Earlier, Adaminte Makan Abu, India’s official entry at this year’s Oscars, had failed to make it to the top nine shortlisted films for the Best Foreign Film for 2011.

Sohan Roy‘s DAM 999, the country‘s only hope at the Oscars this year, had been eliminated from the Oscar race. The filmmakers were expecting nominations in the best picture, best original song and best original score categories. Though the film was not India’s official entry, it was individually sponsored by the makers.

Despite Indian cinema being recognised globally for its technological advancements, variety, visual splendour, skilled technicians and also for its reach and returns, our films have not been able to break into the coveted Oscar circle for a long time.

Commenting on why we don’t make films worth an Oscar award, producer Mukesh Bhatt said, “ This is because we make films for millions of our Indian audience. That in itself is a herculean task. Though as a rule we send one film as an official entry to the Oscars, we have never grudged about our films being eliminated from the Oscars.”

Among the 30 films that were the country’s official entry at the Oscars, only three films namely Mother India in 1957, Salaam Bombay in 1988 and Lagaan in 2001 got Oscar nominations, while those that failed include Sahib Biwi Ghulam, Reshma aur Shera, Garam Hawa, Manthan, Shatranj Ke Khiladi, Saagar, Rudaali, Bandit Queen, Devdas, Shwas,Rang De Basanti,Tare Zameen Par and Adaminte Makan Abu among others.
