The album features ‘Abhi nahi jaana …’ a soulful duet by Udit Narayan and Shreya Ghosal followed by a fast paced gang song ‘Jackpot….’ which has voices of Shaan, Nirmal Pawaar and Riddhi. ‘Pyaar ne tere .. ‘ is another lovely duet by Udit Narayan and Shreya Ghosal as also a solo, ‘Meri Zindagi mein tum …’ by Shaan. Sunidhi Chauhan in her inimitable style conveys zest and sensuality in the racy item number song ‘Jugnu jugnu … ‘ which has been picturized on the heroine Shweta Keswani.

Speaking at the music launch, Mr. Sushilkumar Agrawal, MD & CEO, Ultra Group of Companies, said, “Ultra for years has been synonymous with video publishing, however, we have now forayed into production and distribution in a big way. Our feature film, Chor Mandli – the Gang, will be the first-ever feature film to be premiered on VCD / DVD. This small budget comic thriller is sure to enthrall the audience and will be enjoyed by one and all. Nirmal Pawar has done a marvelous job on the music of the film. The album features a mix of melodious and catchy numbers sung by among others Udit Narayan, Shaan, Shreya Ghosal and Sunidhi Chauhan.”

Six different characters, six different dreams, one common aim, this forms the crux of the film, Chor Mandli – The Gang. This comic thriller, directed by Sanjay B. Khanna, is based on a crook who has hatched a foolproof plan to break into a vault loaded with insurmountable riches, but he needs a credible accomplice to do the needful. This, is where the story takes a turn for the incongruous; the crook gets in touch with his ‘beer bar dancer’ girlfriend Shweta Keswani to find a suitable suite. She in turn gets in touch with several people who all have their own devious plans. Thus the contenders for the riches are plenty but the location unknown. How these barney bunch of people crack the situation forms the crux of the film.

  • Shweta Keswani opts out of ‘Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii’

MUMBAI: Looks like the Balaji telefilms would be stocking up on the glycerine supply. While the season for marriage is done with, the latest fad in telly land seems to be the mourning period.

Following the footsteps of Mandira Bedi in Kyunkii…, Shweta Keswani aka Avantika of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii has dropped out voluntarily of the show, albeit for different reasons.
While Mandira has said she was unhappy with the negative role, Shweta’s decision to call it quits is linked to fatigue.
According to Shweta, “I was doing Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. It was becoming hectic to handle both the projects. I need a break. If I don’t take one now, I will soon collapse. I thought that the logic thing would be to drop Kahaani….”
Obviously, since she has a meatier role in Des…, it would be smarter to quit Kahaani… But Shweta argues: “It is simply because I have killed my husband in the serial. So it would be easier to get eliminated in this one. I told Ektaa about it nearly five-six months ago. You saw me getting caught last week. Now, they would probably show that I have been sentenced to life imprisonment. Please note, there is no friction between Ekta and me.”
When asked about her future plans she said: “There is no dearth of work. Aroonaji has offered me a few roles in the serials she is planning for Sahara and Sony. Let’s see. But nothing for some time at least. Leave me alone. I am exhausted.”
With Deepak Kazir AKA Babuji of Kahaani… also planning to call it quits, is it Kahaani…’s turn for a double dose of sorrow?

TV producer Aroona Irani celebrates the success of ‘Des mein…’

MUMBAI: It was celebration time at Mumbai’s ITC Grand Maratha Sheraton Hotel on Saturday, 31 May, 2003. Veteran actress and famed producer Aroona Irani held a bash to celebrate the success of her Star Plus soap Des Mein Nikhla Hoga Chand (DMNHC). She became the first independent producer to beat Balaji in the ratings game in recent times.

The serial conceptualised and created by AK Films has had an uninterrupted run of 84 episodes since 2001 in the prime time slot of 9 pm. The serial DMNHC had ousted the usual Balaji contenders -Kyunki ….. Kahaani … and Kasauti Zindagi Kay …..from the top position, reveal the latest TRP ratings (for the week 5 May to 10 May 2003).

DMNHC topped the chart with a TRP of 10.9, followed by Kasauti …at 10.5 and Kyunki …at 10.3. However, in the recent ratings provided by TAM (week 21 for 18-24 May), Balaji’s Kasauti… has grabbed the top three spots (10.5) followed by DMNHC with a TVR of 9.5.

In the presence of her unit and several TV stars, Irani, dressed in a blue coloured saree, attributed the unprecendent success to the gripping storyline. “The storyline has a social fervour that blends two varying cultures – the western NRI (non resident India) and our own traditionally soaked Indian ethos. Not a pebble has been left unturned to make the serial visually rich and technically up-to-date to match the core narrative. The storyline also emcompasses an interesting romantic interlude,” added Irani.

Present on the occasion were TV stars such as Sangeeta Ghosh, Shweta Keswani, Siddharth Dhawan and Varun Badola. Also making his presence felt was Amarr Upadhyay who returning to the small screen after his insipid feature film debut.
