    Roundglass Sports signs golfer Shubhankar Sharma as brand ambassador

    Mumbai: In yet another landmark initiative, Roundglass Sports has announced that it has signed India’s number one golfer, Shubhankar Sharma, as a brand ambassador. A long-term agreement has been signed to this effect during which Roundglass Sports will be the primary sponsor of the 27-year-old golfer from Chandigarh, who is a two-time winner on the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour) and has eight career titles to his name.

    In addition to Roundglass Sports, Shubhankar will be promoting different verticals of Roundglass such as Rounglass Foundation and the Roundglass Golf Academy, which is expected to become operational in two years. This association is an extension of Roundglass Sports’ mission to support and promote top sportspersons, including marquee golfers, in India who possess the talent to compete and win at the international level.

    Shubhankar is a prodigal talent who turned pro in 2013 at the age of 16. He is currently the highest-ranked Indian (#188 on the Official World Golf Ranking) in men’s professional golf globally and was the No.1 player in Asia in 2018. Shubhankar has had a status on the European and Asian Tours since 2018. He also features regularly on the PGA Tour.

    Shubhankar has made multiple appearances in all the Golf Majors and recorded the best-ever finish by an Indian at The Open, the oldest golf championship in the world. At the 151st Open in Liverpool last year, he finished tied for eighth position.

    In addition, his two European Tour titles have been the Joburg Open and the Maybank Championships. His six other titles have been in India’s top pro tour, the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI).

    Shubhankar is also a recipient of the Arjuna Award in 2018, the second highest honour for sports personalities in the country. He was also awarded the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year in 2018 and is a winner of the Asian Tour Order of Merit in the same year.

    MUMBAI: The 4thand the Final Golf Major  of the year ‘The PGA Championship 2018’ will take place from 9th to 12th August, 2018 at the Bellerive Golf Course. Live action from the tournament will be broadcast for the Indian golf enthusiasts on DSPORT, a premium sports TV channel by Discovery Communications. The 100th edition of the championships will broadcast on the channel from 10:30 pm (IST) onwards. The historic course last hosted the PGA Championship back in 2013. With dense rough lining the fairways, sprawling bunkers that are surrounded by multiple greens and weather conditions affecting scoring makes Bellerive a very challenging course to play on.

    The centennial edition of this prestigious tournament will once again see a strong line-up of marquee golfers competing to become the ‘Champion Golfer’ and lift the iconic Wanamaker Trophy. The ‘PGA Championship’ will witness the world’s best golfers competing for a handsome prize purse of $10,500,000. All eyes will be on the defending champion Justin Thomas who will face robust competition from players like Tiger Woods, Rory Mcllroy, Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose and YE Yang.

    Shubhankar Sharma who turned in a creditable performance making the Cut in The Open at Carnoustie in July 2018 will be leading the charge for India.

    Francesco Molinari, who recently won ‘The Open’, will be high on confidence to compete in this final championship aiming to win it and close his season on a high. Jason Day with his back to back victories in the Torrey Pines and Quail Hollow has shown consistency which is why he will be a player to look forward to.

    The first ‘PGA Championship’ took place in 1916 and since then has become a huge platform for golfers to showcase their talent and skills with the club.     MUMBAI: Dsport will broadcast the 147th edition of the much awaited ‘British Open’ live in India. The tournament will commence from 19 July 2018 at the Carnoustie Golf Course, Scotland.

    The British Open 2018 will once again see a strong line-up of marquee golfers competing to become the ‘Champion Golfer of the Year’ and lift the iconic Claret Jug. The likes of Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Patrick Reed, Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Kevin Chappel, Tiger Woods, Anirban Lahiri along with defending champion Jordan Speith will fight for a handsome prize purse of $10.8 million out of which $1.89 million will be the winner’s share.

    MUMBAI: Sports marketing firm Baseline Ventures has signed a multi year agreement with India’s latest golfing sensation Shubhankar Sharma to look after all his endorsements and commercial interest for the Indian region. Shubhankar globally is managed by Wasserman Media Group. 

    Shubhankar’s stunning rise up the golf rankings saw him rise from 462nd place to 71st in three months following two European Tour Wins and a tied ninth place finish at the World Golf Championships in Mexico couple of months back. The 21 year old is now the highest ranked Indian golfer in the world.

    Shubhankar, became only the fourth Indian golfer to play at the prestiguous, The Masters,  after Jeev Milkha Singh, Arjun Atwal and Anirban Lahiri.  He also has been the only Indian to lead the European tour OOM, ever.

    This year’s Master’s will be a special one for Indian viewers as the young Golf sensation from India, Shubhankar Sharma has received a special invitation to compete in the Masters. Shubhankar, the 21 year old prodigy from India has been invited during a breakthrough season, which includes two wins over four months and a top-10 finish in his first PGA Tour event. He became the youngest player from India to win on the European Tour at the Joburg Open in December. He earned his second win at the Maybank Championship in February and thenmade his PGA Tour debut at the WGC-Mexico Championship and finished T-9 after holding the lead after 36 and 54 holes. This will be Shubhankar’s first Masters appearance.
