  • DSport acquires exclusive India broadcast rights of ‘The Open’

    MUMBAI: DSport has acquired long-term India broadcast rights of ‘The Open’, Golf’s oldest and most prestigious tournament.

    ‘The Open’ is one of the four major championships in professional golf. DSport will telecast live The 146th Open, set to get underway on 20 July 2017, at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England. Indian stars Anirban Lahiri and Shiv Kapur will be among several legends and other top stars of world golf, trying to lay their hands on the coveted Claret Jug.

    Discovery Communications India South Asia senior vice-president and general manager Karan Bajaj said, “We continue in our endeavor to offer the best of global sporting extravaganzas to sports aficionados across the country.  The acquisition of broadcast rights of The Golf will help us build and engage with the growing community of Golf followers in the country. DSport  in a short span of time has built a strong array of properties across categories such as soccer, golf, wrestling, tennis, horse-racing, motor-sports and extreme sports.”

    The live and exclusive broadcast will be in two phases across the four days of The Open.

    World Sport Group partners ISM to represent Shiv Kapur in Asia

    MUMBAI: Indian golfer Shiv Kapur will now be represented in Asia by World Sport Group, a sports management company, which also manages the likes of Arjun Atwal and Daniel Chopra. WSG has inked an agreement with player management company ISM, the original rights holder to manage the 28-year-old former Asian Games gold medalist.

    ISM has partnered with WSG to oversee Kapur‘s affairs in Asia. Said Kapur, “I feel it is an appropriate time to work on the huge opportunities that exist in Asia and I think World Sport Group, with their vast experience in the region, are the ideal company to be associated with.” Apart from managing players like Jennifer Rosales and Marcus Both, WSG also promotes the Barclays Singapore Open, the Hero Honda Indian Open, the Thailand Open and the Australian PGA Championship among others.

    Averred World Sport Group vice president Golf Patrick Feizal Joyce, “Shiv Kapur is one of the most exciting Asian golfers in the game and has an extremely bright future. As his career goes from strength to strength, World Sport Group will work in tandem with ISM to ensure he has full support in Asia.” ISM‘s clientele includes Jeev Milkha Singh, Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy, Ernie Els, and Louis Oosthuizen.

    New Delhi, August 10, 2006: ESPN Star Sports, will showcase some of the most memorable moments in the history of Indian sports this Independence Day. Keeping up with the spirit of Independence Day, the leading broadcaster will relive glorious moments in Indian sports for viewers across the country in a specially produced programming initiative.

    Explaining the initiative, ESPN Software India Pvt Ltd Managing Director R C Venkateish said, “ESPN Star Sports has always looked at initiatives to redefine its offerings to the audiences. This Independence Day, keeping up with the spirit of patriotism, we will be showcasing some of the most memorable sporting events in Indian history, the moments that have done India and Indians proud at the international level.”

    ESPN will showcase India’s cricketing glory against England, symbolic to India overturning the British Empire to attain Independence. The 1986 series, where Kapil Dev led and Vengsarkar inspired India won two Test matches; the 1971 series, where India’s spin trio had England in a web; the historic 1983 World Cup semi final and the record chase by Indians against England in the NatWest series final, the day will feature some of the best talent in some of the keenly contested matches in the cricketing history of India.

    Star Sports will be showcasing some of modern India’s finest moments with modern day Indian sporting icons such as Narain Karthikeyan, Shiv Kapur, Sonjay Dutt, Sania Mirza, Mahesh Bhupathi doing India proud at the international level at individual and team sports.
