    MUMBAI: Shemaroo Entertainment has appointed Kaushal Nanavati as vice president – international business.

    Nanavati will be responsible for driving the business in the international markets and scaling up Shemaroo’s international business on television and digital platforms.

    Prior to joining Shemaroo Entertainment, Nanavati was with Disney India as director – international distribution & syndication. He has also worked with several other media companies including UTV and Zee Telefilms.

    Nanavati has an extensive experience of 18 years, of which more than 15 years has been in the television space having handled roles encompassing international channel distribution, content syndication & domestic distribution.

    Shemaroo Entertainment, Videocon d2h launch religious channel

    MUMBAI: Shemaroo Entertainment has joined hands with Videocon d2h to launch a 24 hr ad free devotional channel “d2h Darshan” according to a press release filed at the bourses by Shemaroo. The channel plans to offer a wide variety of religeous and religion related content such as temple tourism, jaaps, mantras, kathas, popular bhajans, holy Books etc. d2h Darshan can be subscribed at Rs. 30 per month from 1st Dec 2015 and is available for Videocon d2h consumers on channel number 481..

     

    According to the release, d2h Darshan will also attempt to explain the meaning and significance of important elements extracted from the Vedas and other scriptures. The videos programmed on each day of the week will be as per the special significance of that day devoted to a deity. For example Monday is devoted to Shiva, Tuesday for Ganesha, and so on. The channel also plans to offer  customized  content  around important   festivals   and   various   events   based   on   the religious calendar. Shemaroo will draw from its bank of more than 2000 hours of devotional content to specially create this unique service.

    Shemaroo launches Miniplex movie service on Tata Sky

    MUMBAI: After joining hands with Airtel Digital TV, Shemaroo Entertainment has now tied up with yet another DTH operator – Tata Sky to launch its subscription-based movie premiere service Miniplex.

     

    The subscription based ad-free service Miniplex will premiere one movie every Friday for the first time on Indian television as well as other recent movies.

     

    As was reported earlier by Indiantelevision.com, in addition to DTH, Shemaroo also plans to launch Miniplex across other platforms like cable and online in a phased manner.

     

    The monthly subscription price for the service is Rs 60. To activate it, consumers can give a missed call to 9230892308. For HD subscribers, the service is on channel number 298, whereas for SD subscribers, it is on 298.

     

    Shemaroo Entertainment director Hiren Gada said, “Miniplex is a subscription-based movie premiere service curated to cater to movie lovers across the country. We are glad to tie up with Tata Sky for this service. Tata Sky consumers can now enjoy world television premiere of movies on every Friday. Not only this, other movies showcased on the channel are carefully selected set of movies that are not telecasted on television so often.”

     

    The ‘Premieres’ are supported by ‘Premiums,’ which are movies released post 2005. ‘Premiums’ will be showcased for five days of the week with everyday featuring a new movie.

    Shemaroo acquires mobile rights for live video content distribution of Lalbaugcha Raja

    MUMBAI: For the fifth consecutive year, Shemaroo Entertainment has acquired the exclusive video content rights of Lalbaugcha Raja for mobile platforms.

     

    Consumers will now be able to enjoy aarti, live darshan and many more videos of Lalbaugcha Raja anywhere and anytime on their mobile handsets. All they need is to send an SMS – ‘SELBR’ to 56060. They will receive a link on their mobile via which they can access the content.

     

    Live darshan of Lalbaugcha Raja will be available from 17 September, 2015.

     

    Shemaroo Entertainment will distribute content to all telecom operators. The company will also provide live feed of the deity to selected mobile apps with good subscriber base to reach to a wider audience.

     

    During the 10 days of Ganesh Utsav, around 1.5 million devotees come each day to seek the blessings of Lalbaugcha Raja. This number has been growing every year.

    Sun TV loads South Indian languages films on HOOQ in multi-year deal

    MUMBAI: The OTT acceleration in India is rapidly getting recognition from film and television companies. After collaborating with the likes of Yash Raj Films and Shemaroo Entertainment, OTT player HOOQ has now joined hands with top South Indian broadcaster Sun TV in a multi-year deal.

    HOOQ will carry Sun TV’s library that includes a mix of super hit films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages. 

    Sun TV group CEO S L Narayanan said, “We are excited about the possibilities arising out of our association with HOOQ, a digital distribution platform of impeccable lineage. Sun TV holds a large library of blockbusters and timeless classics with enduring appeal.”

    “Sun TV Network’s extensive library with titles from Tamil to Malayalam will help us ensure we have something for everyone in India. More importantly, we want our customers to continue to enjoy the largest and best catalogue of Hollywood and Indian content of any service available today,” added HOOQ CEO Peter Bithos.

    It may be recalled that Asian OTT player HOOQ recently set shop in India with over 30,000 hours  of movies and TV series.

    M&E stocks take a beating as Sensex crashes 1600+ points; NDTV worst hit

    MUMBAI: Triggered by global concerns over China’s falling economy and its impact on global markets, the benchmark BSE Sensex witnessed bloodbath on Monday, 24 August as it closed the day at 25,741.56, down 1,624.51 points (5.94 per cent). This is one of the biggest fall since 2009.

     

    Moreover, the Nifty was also down 490.95 points (5.92 per cent) to close at 7809.

     

    According to media reports, on the back of the market meltdown, investors lost more than Rs 7 lakh crore. The downfall not only left the major oil, goods and bank companies in the red but the Indian Media and Entertainment (M&E) companies were also badly hit. 

     

    In the media sector, news company NDTV India was the worst hit as it fell 16.27 per cent to close the day at Rs 88.50. This was followed by TV Today, which witnessed a fall of 13.99 per cent to close the day’s trade at Rs 192.15. On the other hand, multi system operator (MSO) Hathway Cable & Datacom at Rs 40.05 was down 13.78 per cent.

     

    Some of the other major M&E companies like Balaji Telefilms, direct to home (DTH) company Dish TV and Sun TV Network were not spared either. While Balaji Telefilms was down 12.31 per cent to close the day at Rs 72.65, Dish TV was down 11.85 per cent at Rs 96.35. The Maran owned Sun TV dipped 11.63 per cent to close at Rs 298.50.

     

    Eros International Media closed at Rs 441.95 after registering a 11.60 per cent decline. Even music companies were not left untouched from the stock market waves. Shemaroo Entertainment, Saregama and Tips recorded a fall of 10.74 per cent, 9.98 per cent and 9.53 per cent respectively.

     

    Other media companies including DQ Entertainment, Network18, B.A.G Films and Entertainment Network India Ltd (ENIL) were down by 9.38 per cent, 8.78 per cent, 8.59 per cent and 7.33 per cent respectively.

     

    The Dhoot family owned DTH company Videocon d2h was the sole company unaffected by the fall of the Sensex. The company’s stock was up by 0.33 per cent and closed at Rs 137. 75.

     

    Some of the companies, which were not as impacted as much were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL), which was down 6.11 per cent to end the day at Rs 359.65, Jagran Prakashan (down 5.20 per cent) and MSO Siti Cable (down 5 per cent). 

     

    HT Media bore a loss of 2.84 per cent, whereas the Orissa based MSO Ortel Communications was down 2.27 per cent to close the day’s trade at Rs 202.30. 

     

    Ascribing the market crash to global turbulence, finance minister Arun Jaitley said that the government along with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was watching the situation and hoped that things will stabilise once the transient impact is over.

    MUMBAI: Shemaroo Entertainment has entered into an association with Magna Publishing Company to distribute content from its magazines on mobile and digital platforms including YouTube. 

     

    The magazines that fall under Magna are StardustSavvySociety and Health & Nutrition.

     

    Shemaroo will provide videos, snippets, stories, gossip, images and audio from Stardust on mobile WAP and IVR platforms. The company will convert text from Stardust in audio and video format and will distribute it on mobile and YouTube.

    Shemaroo obtains John Doe order from HC to protect ‘Hunterrr’ from piracy

    MUMBAI: Shemaroo Entertainment has obtained a John Doe order from the Mumbai High Court to protect its latest release Hunterrr from the menace of piracy. The order, not only restricts piracy on cable, digital and physical medium but action can also be taken against a person watching the film from an illegal source.

     

    Shemaroo Entertainment has sent a copy of the order to various MSOs, LCOs and ISPs. Further, the court has directed all police authorities to act on the order.

     

    The order restrains any person from “downloading from internet, telecasting, broadcasting and distributing or putting on the cable TV network, disseminating, reproducing or otherwise making available to the public, the film Hunterrr or “from (i) making a copy of the said film, (ii) to sell or give on hire, or offer for sale or hire, any copy of the said film (iii) to communicate the film to the public in any manner whatsoever including by way of but not limited to telecasting and/or re telecasting the said film, or even otherwise dealing with the rights in the said film which vest exclusively in the Plaintiff, in any manner whatsoever.” The order also restrains others “from communicating or making available or distributing, or duplicating, or displaying, or releasing, or showing, or uploading, or downloading or exhibiting, or playing, and/or defraying the movie Hunterrr in any manner from the Plaintiff or in any other manner, which would violate/infringe the Plaintiff’s copyright in the said film Hunterrr.”

     

    Hunterrr stars Gulshan Devaiah, Radhika Apte and Sai Tamhankar and is produced by Anurag Kashyap’s Phantom Films.

     

    A John Doe order is defined as an action instituted by a party who seeks the aid of the Court in fear of some future probable injury to his rights or interest and the action is brought to prevent a wrong that is apprehended.
