  • ‘Indiawaale’: Happy New Year’s latest launch

‘Indiawaale’: Happy New Year’s latest launch

MUMBAI: After creating waves with its grand trailer, the Happy New Year team launched its theme song Indiawaale on 2 September.  Featuring the entire cast of the movie, the song is typical Farah Khan affair – grand and opulent.

Penned by lyricist Irshad Kamil, Indiawaale has been composed by musical duo Vishal-Shekhar. The track is sung by Vishal Dadlani, KK, Shankar Mahadevan and Neeti Mohan.

Excited about Indiawaale’s release, Shah Rukh Khan tweeted, “The first song will see the light of the world today from HNY, “Indiawaale.” Hope it entertains you all. Life is the dancer & you are the dance.”

Talking to the media about the song release, director Farah Khan said, “Indiawaale is the first-of-its-kind song. A dance anthem for sure! It gives you goose bumps and also forces you to get up and dance. It was truly the most difficult song to crack as not only I but Vishal-Shekhar and Irshad Bhai (Kamil) had to think of today’s patriotism and make a song around that. Today what we feel for our country is so different from the sentiments of the ’70s and ’80s. It’s really a song that encapsulates all that makes us uniquely Indiawaale.”

“I am so excited for everyone to hear the full song because we feel that ‘Indiawaale’ is a dance anthem that can be heard and danced to in a disco, stadium or a stage. It is a song for everyone!” said Shekhar Ravjiani prior to the release of the song at an event.

Shah Rukh Khan’s much hyped film; Happy New Year is all set to hit the movie screens this Diwali, on 24 October. • Now, health on call!

    Now, health on call!

MUMBAI: What if you called a friend and heard a celebrity sharing health tips instead of the usual caller tune? Would you get annoyed, give a good ear or better still, make it your own to spread awareness.

Well, Leo Burnett and World Health Organisation (WHO) certainly seem to think you will change your caller tune. Which is why the duo has created a campaign titled ‘Donate your Caller Tune’ which lets you hear health advice from a celebrity and activate the same on your mobile phone in a bid to keep up the good work.

The initiative, being promoted on digital platforms, covers 12 diseases with 12 celebrities talking about them, including the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, John Abraham, Cyrus Broacha, Parineeti Chopra and Shankar Mahadevan.

Easily the world’s biggest mobile health campaign, ‘Donate your Caller Tune’ has been kicked off in India and will travel to other countries only after strengthening base here.

So why was India chosen as the launch pad? Because non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are presently the leading cause of death across the globe and in 2008, India alone accounted for 53 per cent of all such deaths worldwide. Also because India has a record 600 million mobile phone users and WHO aims to reach all of them through this campaign.

WHO India representative Dr Nata Menabde says: “Donate Your Caller Tune is an idea where people take responsibility and ownership to spread awareness of health concerns voluntarily. To us, this simple idea of using a caller tune to create mass awareness appealed a lot when presented by Leo Burnett. Caller tunes are very popular in India and it made perfect sense to leverage the power of the mobile phone to create awareness about health issues.”

Leo Burnett NCD K V Sridhar who himself suffers from diabetes, believes the campaign will benefit millions. “Diabetes runs in my family so when I got a chance to educate people, I jumped on it,” he says, giving the example of actor Imran Khan who chose to become an ambassador for cancer awareness because he lost his near and dear ones to the disease. “I usually get 40-50 calls in a day and I’m sure others do too. So, instead of hearing a song or a joke, wouldn’t it be better if we created awareness about various health related issues by donating our calling tunes for the cause?” he questions.

Apart from roping in 12 celebrities, the other herculean task for Leo Burnett was to get all mobile service providers on board. The campaign was launched in November last year with just two service providers VSNL and Airtel and it is only now that others have joined the fray.

People interested in participating need to SMS their service provider to activate the caller tune for the cause they wish to support and spread awareness about. Charges vary as per the service provider.

  • ‘From Gurukul’ to ‘Fame X’ and Sony to Sab

‘From Gurukul’ to ‘Fame X’ and Sony to Sab

MUMBAI: Sony Entertainment Television India’s Sab is all set to unleash its first reality show with the refurbished version of Fame Gurukul that has been re-branded as Fame X.

New version of the reality musical show will hit the tube in mid-November as daily weekday offering.

According to Sab senior vice president and business head Vikas Bhal, the inclusion of the X- element in the name simply refers to the undefinable something that makes for star quality. The big difference that has been incorporated into the second season of the show that aired last year on SET is that the contestants will not undergo any makeover.

Elaborating further, Bhal says that if the contestant auditions with a pair of slippers, his style will be retained. The effort will be to hone singing skills rather than presentation.

Among the other changes being rung into Fame X is that there will be only one winner rather than the jodi (couple) concept that was seen earlier. A big thing for the Fame X winner will be that he/she gets the honour of creating a song and singing for the cricket World Cup that will be held in the West Indies in March 2007.

The show will adapt to a more funky style and have an international look and feel. Unlike Fame Gurukul, which had an Indianised set-up of a music school, Fame X will remain true to the international version. Endemol, which owns the rights to the Spanish reality show Operacion Triunfo on which Fame X is based, will be managing the full production of the show. Production of the earlier Fame Gurukul was assigned to Miditech.

Operacion Triunfo has been adapted across 11 countries across three continents, and is seeing a fourth and fifth series in some territories.

This daily episode series will be spread across 13 weeks. The hunt for the contestants will kick off end of September. The auditions will be held in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata, Ahemedbad and Lucknow.

Bahl concludes that the channel has yet to come to a decision on the jury panel as well as the host of the show. SET’s Fame Gurukul had lyricist Javed Akhtar, singer KK and musician Shankar Mahadevan as the panel judges while singer Ila Arun was the strict headmistress of the music academy.
