No dramatic change in Champions League T20 ratings

MUMBAI: Despite four Indian Premier League (IPL) teams taking part and Shah Rukh Khan being used as brand ambassador for the event, the recently concluded Nokia Champions League Twenty20 did not see any dramatic change in ratings.

Even the triumph of Mumbai Indians did not help host broadcaster ESPN Star Sports (ESS) much, indicating that the format will take time to find widespread popularity.

TAM data (c&s, 4+, All India) shows that the event averaged a TVR of 1.64 (not including the qualifying event), marginally up from 1.44 TVR that it recorded last year. Including the qualifying event, the whole tourney this time averaged 1.45 TVR.

Reach, however, expanded to 87 million compared to 78 million last year.

The final match got a TVR of 3.51 compared to 3.30 TVR last year. If there was any improvement, it was in the delivery of the semifinals. They averaged 2.74 TVR this season, compared to 1.34 TVR last year.

MPG senior director R Venkatasubramanian feels that the event needs a bigger marketing push as foreign teams are taking part. “Cricket fans know about the IPL and the players. Marketing needs to be done for the foreign teams. That would create a sense of anticipation among fans. There should also be on-ground activation.”

An ESPN Star Sports spokesperson, however, said the event‘s performance has been in line with their expectations.

Coca-Cola launches new communication for Diwali, ties up with Ra.One

BANGALORE: Coca-Cola has launched its new integrated communication initiative – “Khushiyan Baatne Se Hi Badhti Hain” for this Diwali.

The campaign builds on the values of inclusivity, spreading and extending happiness that India as a society revels in and something that brand Coca-Cola has always been a proponent of.

To further amplify the campaign, Coca-Cola has tied up with Ra.One through an interesting consumer promotion through which 25 lucky respondents chosen through a computer generated lucky draw will win a chance to meet the leading star of Ra.One, Shah Rukh Khan.

The Coca-Cola television campaign for Diwali portrays how a group of friends set out to brighten up spaces that are most dear to them with diyas, thereby spreading happiness. The movement to spread the happiness is contributed by each of the friends lighting diyas in memory of special moment in a particular place like their classroom, the girl’s hostel watchman, canteen table etc.

Coca-Cola India and South West Asia VP – Marketing, Anupama Ahluwalia says, “We are confident that this new communication will strike a chord with the Coca-Cola consumers and serve as a catalyst in making their Diwali a little more special and memorable. This Diwali, we urge all Indians to include others in their happiness, go ahead light two more diyas for someone else”.

The ‘Khushiyaan Baantne Se Hi Badhti Hain’ campaign has been conceptualised by McCann Erickson‘s– executive chairman McCann Worldgroup India, regional creative director Asia Pacific McCann World Group Prasoon Joshi , and co-created by executive creative director Rahul Matthew, and senior creative director Akshay Kapnadak.

The film has been produced by Ram Madhvani of Equinox Films and the soulful background score has been composed by ace music composer Shantanu Moitra. The TVC will also be supported by a strong digital media campaign that aims to amplify the concept of sharing happiness through the act of lighting diyas.

Speaking about the latest initiative, Joshi said, “Working on this particular campaign has been a very fulfilling experience. The McCann and Equinox team has turned this campaign around in record time. The Coca-Cola ‘Khushiyaan Baantne Se Hi Badhti Hain’ campaign encourages everyone to make this Diwali more special and memorable by undertaking the simple act of lighting two diyas for someone/ someplace else thus extending happiness and spreading joy”.

Champions League Twenty20 delivers 1.4 TVR

MUMBAI: The presence of Shah Rukh Khan as the brand ambassador and the addition of a fourth Indian Premier League (IPL) team have not done much to boost the fortunes of ESPN Star Sports (ESS) when it comes to the Nokia Champions Twenty20 League.

The third edition of the cricket event being aired on ESPN and Star Cricket has delivered a TVR of 1.44 for the first three matches, according to TAM data (C&S 4+ All India). Earlier the six matches held in a qualifier event managed a TVR of 0.74.

The opening ceremony where international acts like Ludacris performed also failed to enthuse cricket fans as it got a TVR of 0.3.

Last year the entire event had delivered a TVR of 1.44, an improvement over the 1.06 that the first edition had delivered. This year‘s event could fare better overall if an IPL franchise makes it to the final.

The highest rating was for a match between the defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, which got a rating of 2.24. A match not featuring an IPL team (between the Cape Cobras and New South Wales Blues) did not reach a TVR of 1.

Ajay Devgn in Hindi remake of Malayalam film

MUMBAI: AHaving succeeded in his endeavour to switch over to action-oriented roles in Singham, Ajay Devgn has delved into a character that has a blend of Peter Sellers‘ comedy and Charlie Chaplin‘s pathos in an upcoming film, The Arab, The Camel & P Madhavan Nair.

The film will be directed by Priyadarshan who is currently in the last lap of completion of the Malayalam version titled Arabiyum Ottakavum P Madhavan Nairum.

Said the director, “I am indeed remaking Arabiyum Ottakavum P Madhavan Nairum with Ajay. This is the first time I‘ve decided to do a Hindi version of a film even before completing the Malayalam version. I am certain that Ajay can do full justice to it.”

Don2 and Mission:Impossible to release on 23 December

MUMBAI: Anil Kapoor‘s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Shah Rukh Khan‘s Don 2 will release on 23 December.

While the release of Don 2 is as per schedule, that of the Anil Kapoor film has been rescheduled. It was earlier to release on 16 December but the producers felt that the Christmas-New Year window would be an ideal time for the film‘s release.

In Don 2, Khan plays an accomplice to a drugs overlord who is being chased by police in several different countries while Kapoor‘s role in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol is being kept under wraps even as the filmmakers have denied that he is playing a villain in the rebooted action franchise.
