  • Cartoon Network sets up ad sales office at Singapore

    MUMBAI: Dedicated kids’ channel Cartoon Network’s in-house advertising sales, sponsorships and promotions team has established a Singapore office to cater to business partners more efficiently.

    The Singapore office provides Cartoon Network with a strategic presence and will position the Network for continued growth in South East Asia.
     
     
    Says Turner Entertainment Networks Asia VP of regional advertising and licensing sales Soumitra Saha, “Advertisers in Singapore have shown an increased interest in working with Cartoon Network over the years, and we have implemented several successful marketing campaigns for clients in this market.”

    Karen Tan, account manager for advertising sales for Cartoon Network will be based in the Singapore office.

    Cartoon Network will offer comprehensive and integrated solutions encompassing awareness building and product communication enhancement for clients across the region.

    With its ability to work closely with clients and align their brand messages successfully, the Network’s skilled team of ad sales professionals have successfully collaborated with clients to deliver solutions that have a direct impact on sales.

  • DD national sets up pre-engineering helpline for class XII students

    MUMBAI: Doordarshan has set up an pre-engineering helpline – a phone-in-programme to aid the class XII students who are appearing for pre-engineering examinations.

    The show will telecast the ‘pre – engineering helpline’ live on 6 May, 11 May and 13 May from 4 – 5 pm on the national channel (Delhi).
     

    To use this facility one needs to dial the toll free number 1600-11-9662. Any student of Class XII who has a problem
    or fear for the forthcoming engineering entrance
    examinations will be provided tips on how to
    crack these entrances.

    The helpline will also provide counseling on how to approach the paper.
     
     

    The helpline panel comprises DD professionals as well as scholars of the engineering stream and allied sciences.

  • VeriSign sets up facility in Bangalore

    BANGALORE: US-based VeriSign, a provider of intelligent infrastructure services for the internet and telecommunications networks has set up their Indian Development Center (IDC) at Bangalore.

    An investment of $350,000 has already been while another US$650,000 is in the pipeline. And the total investments to an order of $6 billion were announced by VeriSign’s Aristotle Balogh, Sr. VP, Operations and Infrastructure.
     

    The $6 million investments will be utilized towards infrastructure, human resources and R & D in wireline and wireless, e-commerce and other forms of on-line transaction processing (OLTP), security and Oracle 11i development and maintenance areas.

    The IDC will undertake end-to-end product engineering, design, development, testing and software cycle management for products and services running over IP and telecommunications network.

    The 20000 square feet utility would initially house 50 employees and this number is expected to go up to 125 by the end of 2005.
     
     

    VeriSign Global Product Engineering VP Manoj Srivastava, who would be in charge of the Bangalore facility said, “The IDC will play a key role in building core mission critical solutions for telecommunications, Internet and Management Information Systems (MIS). We are recruiting highly qualified engineering and software professionals to work with cutting edge product and technologies and aim to significantly increase new product development capacity of VeriSign at the IDC”, while addressing media persons.

    Balogh added, “The IDC will help VeriSign develop products and create more releases in shorter spans of time.”

    Each day VeriSign enables more than 14 billion Internet transactions, 3 billion telephony signals, US$100 million in transactions, and delivery of over 10 million wireless text and content messages. The company also provides services that secure more than 3000 global enterprises and over 450,000 web sites. VeriSign reported revenues of US$1.2billion or 2004, US$400 million for Q1, 2005 and expect to gross US$1.7billion during 2005.

  • Riding on Idol success, FremantleMedia sets up India ops

    MUMBAI: Indian Idol delivered for Sony Entertainment Television (SET) and FremantleMedia is ecstatic. With record ratings for the final episode of the hit format, FremantleMedia has relocated its Asian head of production Gavin Wood to India.

    Wood, who was earlier based in Singapore, will now become director of production in India. He will report to FremantleMedia director of operations (Asia) Patrick Schult and will be responsible for the production of all shows in the region including future series of Idols and The Apprentice (which will be aired on Star).
     

    FremantleMedia is setting up a full-fledged production operation in India for the same. The decision comes after the phenomenal success of the first series of Indian Idol, which broke SET’s ratings performance and got the show to the sixth spot on the ratings chart when the final episode on 5 March got ratings of 14.3.
     
     

    “We have great expectations for our business in India. FremantleMedia’s production of Indian Idol has set a new standard for quality, locally made programmes and with a slate of new shows in the pipeline for 2005, we felt it was an ideal opportunity to establish a fully-fledged production operation in this territory,” Schult was quoted in a media report as saying.

    Wood was based in Singapore since mid-2002 where he oversaw production across Asia, including such shows as Family Feud, The Price is Right, Small Talk, TXTC, Child’s Play, Touch the Truck, Lyrics Board. He was also responsible for successfully rolling out Idol in four countries – India, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia last year.

    Apart from Wood, FremantleMedia’s Geetika will also be an integral part of the company’s India operations. Both Geetika and Wood were unavailable for comment.
