    Sony permits theatres to cancel screenings of ‘The Interview’

    MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Entertainment has given the permission to domestic theater owners to cancel any and all the screenings of James Franco and Seth Rogen’s upcoming film,”The Interview” if they feel unsafe.

     

    The release of Sony’s upcoming film on Christmas day has been facing threats made to deliver a “9/11” attack on theatres that show the movie due to which theater owners are hysterically canceling the screenings.

     

    There have been suspicions that North Korea is behind the threats, as they are unhappy with the controversial content in the film. James and Seth play celebrity journalists who go on a mission to assassinate North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un.

     

    Movie theaters have been cautioned, and Sony has also warned people to stay far away from places where the film may be shown. James and Seth cancelled their media appearances for the controversial comedy; the film’s New York premiere has reportedly been cancelled as well.

    MUMBAI: Columbia Pictures, via Sony Pictures Entertainment just released the first preview trailer of its upcoming action comedy The Interview starring James Franco and Seth Rogen.

     

    In the action comedy, Dave Skylark is king of the celebrity interview and host of the hit night time talk show ‘Skylark Tonight.’ The brain behind Dave’s empire is his producer and best friend, Aaron Rapoport. Unfulfilled, Aaron yearns to do meaningful work. He scores the chance of a lifetime when he secures an interview for Dave with Kim Jong-Un, the mysterious and ruthless dictator of a nuclear-armed North Korea. As Dave and Aaron prepare to leave for North Korea, they are approached by the CIA and asked to assassinate Kim. They accept the mission, becoming two of the least qualified men ever to assassinate – or interview – the most dangerous man on earth.

     

    The film stars Academy Award nominee James Franco (127 Hours) as Dave Skylark and Golden Globe Award nominee Seth Rogen (50/50) – who also co-wrote and co-directed the film with his longtime collaborator Golden Globe Award nominee Evan Goldberg – as Aaron Rapaport, with Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex). Randall Park and Timothy Simons from the HBO comedy Veep also star.

    MUMBAI: Preacher, the hugely popular comic book series from the ’90s is finally being adapted into a television series. According to Deadline, American Movie Classics (AMC) and Sony Pictures Television have closed a deal to develop Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s controversial comic book series Preacher into a drama series. 

     

    AMC’s official statement states, Preacher follows Reverend Jesse Custer, a tough Texas preacher who has lost his faith, has learned that God has left Heaven and abandoned His responsibilities. He finds himself the only person capable of tracking God down, demanding answers, and making Him answer for His dereliction of duty.

     

    Accompanying Jesse on his journey is his former girlfriend and a friendly vampire who seems to prefer a pint in the pub to the blood of the innocent. On his tail is one of the most iconic bad guys in print – an immortal, unstoppable killing machine named the Saint of Killers – a western lone gunman archetype whose sole purpose is to hunt and kill Jesse.

     

    The project will be written/executive produced by This Is the End writers/directors Seth Rogen (Knocked Up) and Evan Goldberg (This Is The End), with Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) serving as executive producer/showrunner and Original Films’ Neal Moritz (The Fast & The Furious) and Vivian Cannon (The Big C) also executive producing.

    MUMBAI: MTV US Real World: Portlandshow has partnered with Hollywood studio Sony Pictures Entertainment to create a mini-episode to promote the film This Is The End, which hits theaters across the US on 12 June 2013. The film‘s stars Seth Rogen, Danny McBride, James Franco, Craig Robinson, and Jay Baruchel star in the short-form episodic titled, The Real World: This is the End Edition, which will air in a four-part story arc on MTV during the Real World: Portland finale and reunion on 12 June.
     
    An uncensored and extended webisode is currently available on ThisIsTheEnd.MTV.com. Viacom Media Networks executive VP integrated marketing Dario Spina said, "MTV‘s Studio Integrated Marketing and Production team continues to deliver entertaining and truly custom, co-branded content for our partners; and our collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment demonstrates that capability by seamlessly uniting the hilarious This is the End cast, within the themes characterised in MTV‘s longest running franchise, The Real World.

    "This creative and comedic content is not only entertaining, but travels across many platforms to connect with audiences where they are."
     
    In support of the film‘s opening week, The Real World: This is the End Edition‘ campaign will air spots on MTV and MTV.com supported by social promotion across MTV‘s Facebook, MTV‘s Twitter, and MTV‘s Tumblr.
     
    Inspired by the film‘s End of the world theme, the cast will face off in a real world setting with Averey-Lee Jane and Joi Niemeyer from the Real World: Portland cast. The Real World: Portland takes place in a city known for expressing individuality and the roommate‘s bring their own unique personalities into the house.
     
    Similarly the This Is The End actors "stop being polite and start getting real," exposing all their quirky behaviours under one roof – paying homage to moments and surprises that people have come to expect from the MTV franchise.
     
    This Is The End follows six friends trapped in a house after a series of strange and catastrophic events devastate Los Angeles. As the world unravels outside, dwindling supplies and cabin fever threaten to tear apart the friendships inside. Eventually, they are forced to leave the house, facing their fate and the true meaning of friendship and redemption.

    Barbara Streisand to helm 1st film in 16 years

    MUMBAI: Veteran Barbra Streisand is ready to get back to direction with a film called Skinny and Cat. This will be her first film in 16 years.
    The 70-year-old actress has tapped Colin Firth and Cate Blanchett as the lead couple in the upcoming film that is about the love story between late author Erskine Caldwell and Margaret Bourke White.
    Skinny and Cat, which is expected to roll in January 2013, will mark Streisand‘s first directing stint since 1996‘s The Mirror Has Two Faces.
    Besides preparing for Skinny and Cat, Streisand is keeping herself busy with some other projects. She has been attached to the big screen take on Broadway musical Gypsy to be written by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes. She will also appear in The Guilt Trip alongside Seth Rogen.
