    Sony Entertainment to broadcast American College Cricket

    MUMBAI: Sony Entertainment Television Asia (SET Asia) has acquired the exclusive media rights for American College Cricket (ACC), and will be the official broadcast partner beginning the season of 2016, ACC stated in a press release. SET Asia will broadcast major match-ups including regional and national semi-final and final matches.

    President of American College Cricket Lloyd Jodah, announcing the new broadcast partnership arrangement, said, “It’s the right time, and Sony is the ideal Broadcast Partner for American College Cricket to go back on TV. Since March 2009, we’ve been setting the bar for cricket in America, and Sony’s experience in broadcasting major tournaments will ensure we take cricket in the USA to the next level. America & Canada will get to see the young talent representing well-known universities, which in addition to their educational reputations, are major brands in sports such as football, basketball, baseball, soccer and more. American College Cricket has created a new platform which, together with SET Asia will raise the stature of the game in North America significantly higher.”

    Across the US and Canada, there is a growing number of students who are ardent cricket fans. Many play at a local or regional level. ACC and SET Asia will provide opportunities for them to play the sport at a competitive, national level. With an ever-increasing interest in the game and growth in available resources, cricket in North America is now poised to exponentially expand its player and viewership base.

    Talking about the role of SET Asia, SVP International Business-Head of the Americas Jaideep Janakiram said, “SET Asia is developing relevant, localized content to cater to the preferences of youth in the United States.     SES renews contract with Sony Entertainment Television Asia

    MUMBAI: SES – a world-leading satellite operator with a fleet of 54 geostationary satellites – today announced a renewal of its contract with Sony Entertainment Television (SET) Asia.

    The new agreement will enable SET Asia to reach out to its subscribers in the UK and Ireland at SES’ prime orbital arc of 28.2/28.5 degrees East, as well as distribute its platform to affiliates across Europe.

    The satellite operator serves almost 13 million satellite households across the UK and Ireland from its constellation of four satellites positioned at the orbital arc of 28.2/28.5. The company is in the process of a full fleet renewal at the prime orbital location: ASTRA 2F was launched September 2012 while ASTRA 2E was recently launched successfully on 30 September 2013. ASTRA 2G will be launched in Q1 2014.

    SES chief commercial officer Ferdinand Kayser says: “We are delighted that SET Asia has chosen SES to continue to deliver their premium service at the orbital arc of 28.2/28.5 degrees East. This long-term partnership shows SET Asia’s confidence in our ability to provide leading edge technologies that will ensure seamless delivery of their service to subscribers.”

    JumpTV to offer SET Asia shows via internet

    MUMBAI: JumpTV has entered into an exclusive agreement to begin offering Sony Entertainment Television Asia (SET Asia) in North America via the Internet. 

    The global internet-television network JumpTV streams live, high-quality international television signals via its website from stations in more than 60 countries. The subscribers can access their favorite channels from any Internet- enabled device including home computers, laptops, internet-enabled televisions, mobile phones and video game consoles, informs an official release.

    Through JumpTV, SET Asia is now available for US$14.95 a month for a high- speed connection, with an upgrade option for an ultra bandwidth version, which runs at 1 Mbps and produces one of the highest resolution streams available on the internet.

    SET Asia features some shows as: the love story Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai and Ek Ladki Anjaani Si, the Hindi adaptation of Juana La Virgen. 

    Additionally, the channel is bringing in a whole host of new programs including Aisa Des Hai Mera, Thodi Kushi Thode Gham and Rishton Ki Dorr, states an official release.

    “Sony Entertainment Television Asia has been exploring new technology platforms to deliver our content over the Internet. We knew that with millions of South Asians living abroad, there was a tremendous opportunity and untapped market of more tech savvy South Asians in the US and Canada,” said SET Asia executive VP international business Rajan Singh.

    “JumpTV will be the first Internet broadcast platform where SET Asia will be available after much success on cable and satellite platforms in North America.”
