    Mumbai: ZEE5, India and Bharat’s largest home-grown video streaming platform, and the OTT arm of ZEEL, releases #ZEE5Rewind 2023, highlighting a year filled with groundbreaking content across languages. With a paying subscriber in each leading city of the country, the platform experienced an extraordinary surge in streaming hours, across SVOD, AVOD and TVOD offerings. In an industry-first development, ‘Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hain’ went for a theatrical release following its digital launch owing to massive audience support. It is now a part of IMDB’s coveted Top 250 titles list and a recipient of multiple awards.

    Coming to post-theatricals, the movies which enjoyed significant audience favour were ‘Unchaai’, ‘Gadar 2’ in Hindi, ‘Vidhuthalai – Part I’, ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ in Tamil, ‘Writer Padmabhushan’, ‘Karthikeya 2’ in Telugu, ‘Vedha’ in Kannada, ‘Babe Bhangra Paunde Ne’, ‘Maurh’ in Punjabi, ‘Pranaya Vilasam’ in Malayalam, ‘Vaalvi’, ‘Ghar Banduk Biryani’ in Marathi, and ‘Projapoti’, ‘Shabash Feluda” in Bangla. ZEE5 also became a leading name in showcasing socially relevant stories and narratives featuring real-life personas. Titles like ‘Lost’, ‘Tarla’, ‘Ayali’, ‘Abar Proloy’, ‘Chhatriwali’, ‘Haddi’, ‘Koose Munisamy Veerappan’ and several others received positive audience reactions, further cementing ZEE5’s position as the country’s OTT platform of choice.

    Top five streaming titles of 2023:

    ZEE5’s AVOD content triumphed in 2023, captivating audiences and bolstering the platform’s commitment to providing accessible and engaging entertainment for all. West and South dominated here too, closely followed by the North and East markets. The ad-supported roster featured an extensive line-up of movies and web shows in Hindi and regional languages, along with Korean drama series dubbed in local languages. Exclusive films like ‘Country Mafia with Ravi Kishan, ‘Am I Next’ with Anushka Sen, Anshuman Jha’s ‘Lakadbaggha’, and Priyamani’s ‘Sarvam Shakti Mayam’ enjoyed strong audience reception, alongside rising popularity for devotional content, and cricket and e-sports streaming. The past year has also solidified ZEE5’s dedication to innovation, with a continued focus on pushing boundaries, making a meaningful impact, and delivering compelling content that resonates with audiences worldwide.

    Establishing a stronger connect with the diverse audience base, ZEE5 introduced socially relevant and creative campaigns for content promotions in line with the vision of #ZEE5GameChangers. For instance, for the film ‘Tarla’, ZEE5 expressed appreciation for the dabbawalla community in Mumbai with a surprise lunch, accompanied by a meet and greet with actors Huma Qureshi and Sharib Hashmi. On the occasions of National Girl Child Day and International Education Day, ZEE5 organized screenings of ‘Ayali’ across Tamil Nadu, reinforcing its commitment to meaningful engagement.     Dandelooo grabs worldwide distribution rights for ‘Our Piggy’

    Mumbai: Emmy Award-winning French animation production and distribution company Dandelooo has struck a deal with the Emmy Award-winning Czech film and television production company Bionaut for the new adorable comedy series Our Piggy.

    The deal gives Dandelooo exclusive worldwide distribution rights to the 2D animated series targeted at 2–4-year-olds produced by Bionaut, the producers of the highly successful Hungry Bear Tales series.

    Created and based on the book by Jaromir Plachy, nominated for the Golden Pinwheel, Young Illustrators Competition Award 2021, Our Piggy discovers the magic of ordinary objects and invites children into his extraordinary world through inquisitiveness and play.

    Commenting on the deal, Dandelooo co-founder Emmanuèle Pétry Sirvin said, “This new series is based on the director’s observation of his own child, which explains the charm of this delightful character. I fell in love immediately with this series, which illustrates the well-known quote ‘keep it simple.’ Bionaut is one of the most talented studios in Central Europe and we are proud to distribute their programmes internationally.”

    Dandelooo is a French award-winning creative company based in Paris dedicated to the development, production, and distribution of original and ambitious animated programs. It runs its own studio, Ooolala, in la Cartoucherie (Valence, France) and has a sales office in Barcelona, Spain, and Milan, Italy.

    MUMBAI: The OTT platform Netflix and Formula 1 have announced the renewal of the popular docu-drama Drive to Survive Season fifth and sixth on Netflix. Season four has been accepted by the viewers in 33 different nations. 

    The next season will be held in 2023 and the show will continue on Netflix till 2024, according to the media report.

    Netflix claims that the show has grown in popularity over time and in its last season has attracted the biggest audience. 

    The new seasons will once again take fans behind the scenes, to witness first-hand how the drivers and teams prepare to battle it out for the next season. The series will offer never-before-seen footage and interviews from the sport’s biggest names.

    Mumbai: Netflix has partnered with Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK also known as Raj and DK for a new series titled “Guns & Gulaabs” under D2R Films productions.

    The series will be created, directed and produced by Raj and DK and written by Suman Kumar, Raj and DK, and Sumit Arora.

    The writer-director duo is the minds behind the hit series “The Family Man.” The new series will be the second collaboration between the pair and Netflix after their film “Cinema Bandi,” which was released on the OTT platform last year.

    “Netflix has always been a pioneering service offering constantly cutting-edge content,” said Raj and DK. “And we are super thrilled to associate with them on our latest venture! Last year, we had a great outing on Netflix with our indie gem, ‘Cinema Bandi.’ And now we look forward to a larger collaboration on our first Netflix series, ‘Guns & Gulaabs.’ We are especially thrilled to roll out this wicked genre mash with some of the finest cast and crew from our country.”

    Zee5 inks multi-show partnership with Applause Entertainment

    Mumbai: Streaming platform Zee5 has announced a strategic partnership with content and IP studio Applause Entertainment, a venture of Aditya Birla Group for a multi-show association. The two content companies will collaborate to create a robust original content slate of new Zee5 originals in Hindi across genres to entertain viewers across the globe.

    The first offering as part of the partnership is titled “Kaun Banegi Shikharwati’”– a dramedy series with a unique take on a dysfunctional royal family. The show will be produced by Applause Entertainment in association with Emmay Entertainment and directed by Gauravv Chawla and Ananya Banerjee. The original will premiere exclusively on Zee5 in January 2022.

    “Over the last four years, Applause has created a diverse slate of content and explored stories across genres, languages, and geographies. We are thrilled that our first outing with Zee5 is with Kaun Banegi Shikarwati, a light-hearted, heart-warming dramedy that is both quirky and delightful and boasts a stellar cast of actors. We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with Zee5 and help contribute in a small way to their global ambition,” said Applause Entertainment CEO Sameer Nair.

    The move is in line with Zee5’s content-first approach of forging more partnerships within the creative ecosystem to build a diverse slate of originals and movies. The platform had earlier sealed partnerships with TVF (The Viral Fever), Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and Nitesh Tiwari, and Red Chillies Entertainment to deliver several new shows across the digital entertainment ecosystem.

    Zee5 chief creative officer- Hindi Originals Nimisha Pandey said there is an increasing need for family-viewing content in a post-pandemic era and a multi-dimensional drama like “Kaun Banegi Shikharwati’” works beautifully in that aspect. “We hope that the audience enjoys the roller coaster of emotions with this series,” she added.

    GoQuest Media and Wowow strike a deal for ‘Traitor’

    Mumbai: Global independent content distributor GoQuest Media has struck a deal for the Estonian espionage drama ‘Traitor’.

    Japanese broadcaster Wowow has acquired the spy thriller for its LinearTV and On-Demand streaming service. The award-winning series is directed by Ergo Kuld, and produced by multi service provider Elisa Estonia and Estonian public broadcaster ERR. It is written by playwright and screenwriter Martin Algus, who was awarded the ‘Best Screenwriter Award’ at Estonian Film and Television Awards 2019.

    The thrilling series stars Tambet Tuisk, who was also won the ‘Best Actor Award’ for ‘Traitor’ at the Estonian Film and Television Awards 2020

    Inspired by recent spy scandals in Estonia, ‘Traitor’ is a thriller which begins in 2004 just before Estonia joined Nato and became a top target for Russian intelligence. Greed and the need for recognition leads new recruit Alfred Vint (Tambet Tuisk) to cooperate with Russian intelligence, leading to a thrilling cat-and-mouse game with determined young Estonian counter-intelligence officer Marko Arrak (Veiko Porkanen) as they navigate the challenges faced in their personal lives.

    Wowow acquisition manager Chinatsu Otsuki said, “We are very excited to close the first deal with GoQuest Media. ‘Traitor’ is a superb spy thriller, and the story is very twisted. Our viewers love to watch ‘rewarding good and punishing evil’. However, we all know that reality is a lot more different from what is portrayed in fictional drama. This Estonian spy drama is very realistic in a way that is inspired by true events”.

    ERR head of programs Marje Tõemäe said, “We are very happy that stories which are based on our history and connect with our viewers are also relevant for other audiences all over the world.”

    GoQuest Media managing director Vivek Lath said that he was delighted that ‘Traitor’ will make its debut in Asia, and he couldn’t have asked for a better launchpad than Wowow. “As Japanese audiences watch the unravelling of a brutal but charming government servant who will betray everyone, including his country, to amass power and wealth, we promise that this compelling spy scandal drama may leave them shaken, but they won’t stop watching,” he added.
