BuzzFeed, Keshet Studios tie up for gaming show, digital venture

MUMBAI: BuzzFeed Motion Pictures partnered with the LA-based studio of global production and distribution powerhouse Keshet International (KI) to announce a game-changing TV and digital venture.

BuzzFeed Motion Pictures and Keshet Studios will create a next-generation, transmedia version of the Israeli game show Touch that will be developed around the core concept created by Ido Rosenblum and Keshet for the original. As a leader in video and news content, with its hands on the pulse of the global audience, BuzzFeed’s brand, content and talent will play an integral role in the creation of the game show – further propelling its entrance into linear TV and expanding its already significant digital footprint, with simultaneous launches online and on mobile through its platforms and distribution channels.

The partners will combine BuzzFeed’s unique approach to content creation and massive online promotional reach with KI’s IP and technology, and expertise of crafting linear TV shows with digital entertainment at the heart of their narratives. The original version of KI’s Touch, is an engaging game in which gut reaction, sharp eyes and quick fingers can win prizes. Based around the question, “What is wrong with this picture?,” it connects with viewers and online users in real-time or offline by quickly identifying what is wrong and touching the screen as the clock counts down.

“We’re thrilled to being working with Keshet to develop Touch into a cross-platform, global show, said BuzzFeed Motion Pictures development head Matthew Henick. “Leveraging our audience-focused development process and our global promotional engine will make this a huge phenomenon.”

Keshet International Digital and acquisition SVP Sebastian Burkhardt, commented, “BuzzFeed has been at the forefront of creating culturally defining and buzzworthy original online content. Working jointly with such a prolific and extraordinary partner, I believe we are well positioned to develop a next-generation game show. Together, we will create content that engages viewers of all ages and on all platforms as the speed of linear and digital convergence accelerates.”

BuzzFeed Motion Pictures will team up with Keshet’s digital divisions and Keshet Studios’ non-scripted TV division, headed by Unscripted Programming President Rob Lee, to jointly develop and produce the multi-purpose venture. KI will handle the international rollout of the format in other territories.

  • Keshet bags Croatia crime drama ‘The Paper’s distribution rights

Keshet bags Croatia crime drama ‘The Paper’s distribution rights

MUMBAI: Keshet International (KI) has bagged the global distribution rights to the new eagerly-anticipated Croatian crime drama series, The Paper. Produced by Drugi Plan and yet to air on HTV1, The Paper is a dark cocktail of political corruption, power struggles, crime and betrayal.

The story is about Mario Kardum, an influential and politically-conservative building contractor from a powerful family who buys a left-liberalist newspaper in deep financial trouble. He has two underlying, questionable motives. Firstly, he wants to keep the investigation of someone close to him as the perpetrator of a high-profile hit-and-run case out of the news. Secondly, he wants to coerce the paper into writing favourably about the presidential candidate he is backing.

The Paper is a blistering, fast-paced account of the obstacles and dilemmas faced by today’s press. Has the profession of journalism, once so important, become nothing more than an instrument to achieve other, even greater interests? It will be available as a finished subtitled series and drama format to buyers at MIPCOM 2016.

Keshet International acquisition head Sebastian Burkhardt said, “We came across The Paper at NEM and were extremely impressed by the quality of the production. Everything from the storytelling, to the direction and the cast leads it to be very timely and universal. With current opportunities for non-English speaking series, and our experience with them, we are confident that The Paper will find its audience outside of Croatia.”

The Paper creator and producer Nebojsa Taraba said, “Through this collaboration with Keshet International, we truly feel as though we have found a common artistic tongue and that our project has — in many ways — come home. The way in which Keshet produces and perceives television is precisely what we’ve tried to emulate and apply in our work for years.”

Created by Ivica Djikic, Nebojsa Taraba and Miodrag Sila and directed by Cannes Film Festival jury prize-winner Dalibor Matanic (Un Certain Regard, The High Sun), The Paper is set in the busy newsroom of a daily newspaper. A highly-acclaimed, provocative drama, it presents an ensemble cast navigating the blurred lines between morality and integrity.

Keshet International inks first-look deal with Woodcut Media

MUMBAI: Keshet International (KI) has signed a first-look distribution and development deal with UK-based production entity Woodcut Media.

Under the agreement, KI will get exclusive access to Woodcut’s new non-scripted factual crime slate for worldwide distribution, building on its emerging slate of non-scripted, English language finished programming.

“Woodcut’s expertise and track record in producing successful true crime series, which has always been a popular genre but is even more in vogue at the moment, makes their slate a brilliant addition to the KI portfolio. This deal is another step towards our ambition to grow a larger finished English language programming catalogue. Our partnering with Woodcut is testament to our aim to work with prolific UK independents,” said Keshet International business development and acquisitions head Sebastian Burkhardt.

Woodcut Media CEO Kate Beal added, “Teaming up with Keshet is a great move for Woodcut and we are confident this will be a fruitful alliance to further deliver our crime shows to a global audience. A number of our titles in development are already being sought after by broadcasters, and the genre itself just goes from strength to strength. We very much look forward to making further announcements over the coming months.”
