  • Bates CHI & Partners beefs up planning team with experts on planning

    MUMBAI: Bates CHI & Partners today further strengthened its account planning team in India by bringing on board Anindya Ghosh as Senior Planning Director and Sohini Das as Group Planning Manager.

    Based out of the agency’s Mumbai office, both Ghosh and Das will drive strategic planning for clients’ brands across its offices in India. Their priority will be to bring in fresh thinking to the planning process by tapping into their diverse experience from sales, marketing and advertising.

    Ghosh’s career spans almost a decade and he has experience across media planning, sales and marketing, and advertising account planning. He moves from Publicis India where he was planning director.

    Das moves from Engrave, an online start-up, where she was the head of marketing and business development. She specialised in account planning at MICA post an engineering degree in computer science. Thereafter, she worked for three years in brand management at VIP Industries handling brands like Aristocrat and Skybag.

  • Bates CHI & Partners to handle creative duties of General Insurance Council

    MUMBAI: Bates CHI & Partners, Delhi has bagged the creative duties of General Insurance Council, the apex body of all licensed non-life insurers in India.

    Bates has won the duties following a rigorous multi-agency pitch that saw participation from the likes of JWT and Mudra.

    The first campaign will create awareness for the general insurance category and will cover the verticals that fall under the purview of non-life insurance such as Health, home, rural and motor insurance.

    The General Insurance Council represents the collective interests of the non-life insurance companies in India and speaks out on issues of common interest; participates in discussions related to policy formulation, and acts as an advocate for high standards of customer service in the insurance industry.

    Commenting on the win, Bates CHI & Partners India Group CEO Sanjay Thapar said, “General Insurance has very little awareness & low penetration in this country. We are therefore, delighted to be working with GI Council and look forward to driving their vision.”

    General Insurance Council secretary general R. Chandrasekeran said, “We are delighted to choose Bates, CHI & Partners to handle our creative duties.     The campaign will comprise a mix of radio, print and television commercials and is expected to go live shortly.

  • Bates CHI & Partners strengthens Bangalore ops with two news hires

    MUMBAI: Bates CHI & Partners, a joint venture between Bates and CHI & Partners formed this month, has strengthened its Bangalore operations by roping in two creative directors, Mukund Sharma and Devesh Desai.

    Mukund and Devesh will spearhead the creative teams of Bangalore as executive creative director and senior creative director respectively and will focus on creating and strategizing innovative campaigns reflecting the ‘changengage’ philosophy.

    Both will report to Sagar Mahabaleshwarkar, the national creative director of Bates India.

    CHI & Partners GM and Bangalore Head K Vasantha commented, “Our Bangalore office has been one of the most strongest performing branches for the agency. We are growing at a rapid pace, gaining good traction overall on the business as well as the creative front. Mukund and Devesh, are both young, energetic and raring to go with fresh ideas, and I am excited to welcome them onboard as a part of the process to strengthen the Bangalore team at bates CHI & Partners.”

    Mukund Sharma has close to two decades of experience, including stints at JWT and Ogilvy. He joins Bates from Rediffusion Y&R, where he was creative head of the Bangalore office. At Rediffusion, he was associated with the launch of Arrow New York, Signature and Reliance Jewels, among others. He has worked on a diverse mix of categories including beer (Kingfisher, Foster’s), apparel (Levi’s, Van Heusen, Arrow) and IT (IBM).

    Devesh has had 20 years of experience in advertising stints at SSCB Lintas, Contract advertising, Everest Brand solutions, etc and is most known for his contribution to Anti-smoking poster that saw nominations at Cannes in 2001.

  • Bates gets Sourabh Mishra as planning head

    MUMBAI: Bates India has appointed Sourabh Mishra as the agency‘s national planning head and group chief strategy officer.

    Mishra will commence his new role in October.

    He moves in from Saatchi & Saatchi India where he was working as chief strategy officer.

    Based out of Mumbai, Mishra will lead strategic planning and brand management at Bates across its offices in India. His mandate includes integrating media and discipline neutral solutions into Bates‘ core planning process and practices.

    Mishra comes in with two decade of experience in ad agencies and client organisations. He has headed the strategy planning function in agencies since 2004 and started his career with Contract Advertising where he spent almost seven years. He later worked at BPL Telecom, Ogilvy & Mather, McCann Erickson, Everest Brand Solutions, Reliance Capital and TBWA India. On the client side, he has worked with companies like General Mills, Cadbury, Coca Cola India, Skoda Auto and ITC Foods.

    Dheeraj Sinha quits Bates

    MUMBAI: Bates India regional planning director Dheeraj Sinha has quit.

    “Yes, Sinha has quit,” WPP country head Ranjan Kapur said.

    Bates recently appointed Sanjay Thapar as its CEO.

    Sinha has over a decade of experience in the industry. He was appointed as regional planning director at Bates in March 2011. Prior to this, he has served Bates 141 as chief strategy officer and vice president-strategic planning. He has also worked with Euro RSCG and McCann Erickson.

    In January, Bates had lost its regional executive director and chairman Sonal Dabral and CEO Sandeep Pathak.

  • Sanjay Thapar bids adieu to O&M; joins Bates as CEO

    MUMBAI: Ending a 14-year stint at Ogilvy, Sanjay Thapar is joining Bates India as chief executive officer.

    Thapar was North head at Ogilvy. In his new role, he will be relocating to Mumbai in July to assume the new assignment.

    In January this year, Bates lost two of its senior executives – Sonal Dabral (regional ECD and chairman) and Sandeep Pathak (CEO). Consequently WPP India country head Ranjan Kapur was named the chairman of Bates India.

    Confirming the news to indiantelevision.com, Thapar said, “The assignment with Bates seemed challenging and I thought it would be a good move. Moreover I am moving within the network itself.”

    Both Ogilvy and Bates have the same leadership in the region headed by Tim Isaac who serves a dual role of Bates Asia chairman and Ogilvy Asia Pacific chairman.

    Thapar joined O&M in 1998 as manager at the Kolkata branch and was relocated to the Delhi branch in 2002 as branch head for the advertising function. In 2004 when he was promoted as president of the Delhi branch, where he was given the responsibility of looking after all the functions of O&M Delhi, broadening his sphere from advertising to other functions as well. He was in charge of Ogilvy Landscapes (outdoor media), Ogilvy Outreach (rural communication), OgilvyLive (ground level brand communication), Ogilvy Signscapes (retail brand identity) and OgilvyAction in Delhi.

    Aniruddha Deb joins Ogilvy Delhi as VP and biz head

    MUMBAI: Ogilvy Delhi has appointed Aniruddha Deb as vice president and business head.

    He moves in from Lowe and Partners Thailand, where he was working as the SE Asia business director-Regional Unilever.
    He will be reporting to Ogilvy group president north and east Sanjay Thapar.

    Confirming the development, Thapar said, “Aniruddha‘s international exposure will help us with fresh perspectives. He will help us structure couple of local and international businesses.”

    Deb comes in with over 10 years of experience in advertising and brand leadership roles across categories including FMCG (Unilever Soaps, foods, detergents, oral care and deodorants), consumer durables (LG, Greenply), banking (HSBC & ICICI) and telecom (IDEA), across SE Asia (based at Thailand) and South Asia (based at Mumbai and Delhi).

    Prior to joining Lowe, he spent over five years at Lintas.

    NEW DELHI: Religare, a global financial services group, has launched a new corporate brand advertising campaign on the theme ‘Global Financial Services Growing with You Everyday.’

    The campaign will be shown on Hindi and English news channels, movie channels and leading GECs during prime time showcasing Religare‘s complete portfolio of financial services.

    The theme of the campaign is designed with the objective to communicate to the world at large about the products and services offered by Religare. “We are happy to have a creative partner like Ogilvy & Mather that has been able to successfully convey the message in a warm, engaging and endearing manner,” said Subhrangshu Neogi, director, brand and corporate communications.

    The campaign will also be supplemented by cinemas, outdoors, online and will be punctuated and underpinned by various product and business specific campaigns such as broking, lending, Mutual Fund and Life Insurance.

    The new campaign underscores the transformation that has taken place over the past few years, by communicating who Religare is and what Religare does in the realm of financial services by showcasing the same in an engaging yet warm and endearing manner the multiple lines of business under the Religare brand umbrage.

    “We have been a large corporate brand however for most part of our history, our company‘s brand was defined by few businesses,” said Neogi. “This campaign gives us an opportunity to showcase width and breadth of our product and services. We could have issued this campaign earlier as well however we wanted the businesses to reach inflexion point by attaining a certain size and scale.”

    Consumer focus groups and quantitative research showed that the new campaign effectively communicated the range of Religare businesses, and increased the likelihood that consumers would consider a broader range of Religare products and services. The corporate brand campaign helps highlight the depth and width of the Religare brand and will be punctuated and underpinned by various product and business specific campaigns such as broking, lending, mutual fund, life insurance etc.
