    ESPN INC bags US region IPL media rights for $12.4 million

    MUMBAI: The marketing committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) met in Chennai on 28 February, 2015 to decide the media rights of the Pepsi IPL for the United States region for the three-year period (2015 to 2017).

     

    BCCI received three bids from M/S Willow, Times Internet and ESPN and after following tender policy, the rights were awarded to ESPN INC at a total fee of $12.4 million for the three-year period.

     

    Speaking about the association, BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel said, “We are delighted to have entered into a strategic partnership with one of the leading platforms of global sport, M/S ESPN, which will deliver the widest possible reach ever for the Pepsi IPL in the United States.”

    MUMBAI: Star India’s wholly owned subsidiary Novi Digital Entertainment has bagged media rights for the Pepsi Indian Premier League (IPL). The rights have been acquired for Rs 302.2 crore for the next three seasons, which is substantially higher than the fee of the previous rights period.

     

    The Marketing Committee of The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) met in Mumbai on 10 February, 2015 to receive the bids for which a cumulative reserve price of Rs 120 crore over the three seasons was set.

     

    The three entities that submitted their tender were – Times Internet, Multi Screen Media and Novi Digital Entertainment. The committee, after following the due tender process, awarded the online broadcasting rights of Pepsi IPL to Novi Digital Entertainment.

     

    BCCI Hony secretary Sanjay Patel said, “Our partnership with Novi Digital Entertainment augurs well for the Pepsi IPL, as well as the millions of fans who follow the tournament and we are delighted to commence an association with the organisation whose bid was found to be the most deserving.”

     

    BCCI had earlier published an Invitation To Tender (ITT) for certain media rights relating to the Pepsi Indian Premier League (Pepsi IPL), for the 2015, 2016 and 2017 seasons. The last date to submit the tender in person was 12 pm on 10 February 2015.

    MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has published an Invitation To Tender (ITT) for certain media rights relating to the Pepsi Indian Premier League (Pepsi IPL), for the 2015, 2016 and 2017 seasons.

     

    The media rights package available (as defined in the ITT), is as follows:

    (a)  Indian Subcontinent: Internet and Mobile Rights.

    (b)  Rest of the World (Certain Territories): Television, Audio, Internet and Mobile rights.

     

    BCCI hon. secretary Sanjay Patel said that the upcoming seasons of the Pepsi IPL will be broadcast across the world through every technological medium available, thus reaching out to an even larger audience. The digital medium, for instance he said is rapidly gaining in terms of popularity and usage, with more and more fans relying on digital devices to follow their favourite teams and players before, during and after the matches.

     

    “The IPL will aim to enhance the viewing, digital and interactive experience for cricket fans across the globe, by introducing diverse consumer-friendly innovations that will bring them closer to the action in their favourite sporting league,” he added.

     

    The ITT document will be available at the BCCI Headquarters at the Cricket Centre, Wankhede Stadium, ‘D’ Road, Churchgate, Mumbai 400020, from 11 am to 5 pm (from 11 am to 2 pm on Saturdays, and excluding Sundays), from Thursday, 22 January 2015 to Monday, 2 February 2015, at a cost of Rs 2,00,000/- (non-refundable and non-adjustable), to be paid vide a demand draft drawn in favour of “ Board of Control for Cricket in India,” payable at Mumbai or Chennai (“Tender Fee”).

     

    Bids have been asked to be submitted in person at 12 pm on Tuesday, 3 February 2015, at a meeting of the BCCI Marketing Committee, at which time it is intended that the bids will be opened, evaluated and the tender awarded in the presence of bidders.

    Unmukt and Vinay Kumar to play for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2015

    MUMBAI: While the country is currently engulfed with football fever with the ongoing Hero Indian Super League, cricket fans are in for some good news. The league that started it all, Pepsi Indian Premier League, in its eighth season, is set to kick off on 8 April 2015, and conclude on 24 May 2015.

     

    The first trading window for the tournament opened on 6 October 2014. So far two players have been traded; Mumbai Indians have acquired Unmukt Chand from Rajasthan Royals and R Vinay Kumar from Kolkata Knight Riders, respectively.

     

     Chand had led the India Under-19 cricket team to the U-19 Cricket World Cup victory in 2012. During the IPL season seven he was bought for Rs 65 lakhs by Rajasthan Royals. Vinay Kumar was picked up by KKR for Rs 2.8 crore.

    Mumbai Indians have also released Michael Hussey and Praveen Kumar (Pepsi IPL 2014 replacement player), both of whom may enter the Pepsi IPL 2015 Player Auction.

     

    The first trading window will close on  12 December 2014.

     

    Meanwhile, BCCI hon. secretary Sanjay Patel said that the IPL governing council has also decided the windows for the 2016 and 2017 seasons of the tournament. Further mentioning the dates, he said, “The Pepsi IPL 2016 will be played in the window between 8 April 2016 and 29 May 2016 while IPL 2017 will be played from 5 April 2017 to 21 May 2017.” 

     

     

    The previous seventh season was won by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

    MRF signs five-year agreement with BCCI

    MUMBAI: India’s premier pace bowling foundation, The MRF Pace Foundation has entered into a historic agreement with The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The MoU includes a tie-up between India’s premier pace foundation and the BCCI for the next five years.

     

    The MRF Pace Foundation over the years has contributed to the success of fast bowlers from around the world. In terms of facilities, infrastructure and training talent, the MRF Pace Foundation has a lot to offer the Indian bowlers.

     

    BCCI will send current and upcoming pace bowlers to the academy to train under the director of the Pace Foundation, the legendary Glenn McGrath. The bowlers will be split into elite and probable’s categories and the training will be imparted in batches. 

     

    Elite category includes all those pace bowlers who have been selected by the BCCI to play official matches at different levels. There will be a maximum of 10 trainees per camp and the duration of the same will be two weeks. The selected pace bowlers can attend the camp during all three visits of Glenn McGrath in a year between – January to February; June to July and August to September. The first such training camp has begun on 1 September 2014.

     

    Speaking on the occasion MRF chairman and managing director K M Mammen said, “For the last 27 years, the MRF Pace Foundation has worked with a single minded focus of producing pace bowlers for India. Everything we have done at the Pace Foundation, in terms of the tie-ups we have entered into, the infrastructure we have invested in, the staff we have trained, has been planned with this single objective in mind. We are extremely proud of what we have achieved so far. 17 of our trainees have played for the country, taking over 2,000 international wickets. Today, we are proud to announce the official partnership between the BCCI and MRF Pace Foundation to train pace bowlers for India. This new agreement will help us work together even more effectively to produce great results.”

     

    Probables category includes upcoming pace bowlers, as identified and shortlisted by the national selectors. There will be a total of 20 probables, all of whom will undergo training for a period of 30 days. These 20 trainees will be split into two groups (ten each) and attend the camp in May to June and July to August.

    BCCI interim president Shivlal Yadav commented, “This is a great moment. The association between the BCCI and the MRF Pace Foundation will hugely benefit Indian cricket in the long run.”

     

    BCCI honourary secretary Sanjay Patel went on to add, “The BCCI is pleased to initiate this partnership with the MRF Pace Foundation, an institution where several outstanding pace bowlers have honed their skills over the past three decades. These individuals have done the country proud with their achievements in all forms of the game. We are confident that this partnership between the BCCI and the MRF Pace Foundation will help produce many more quick bowlers, who will bring glory to India, in the years to come.”

     

    MRF Pace Foundation director Glenn McGrath said, “It has been a wonderful couple of years for me at the MRF Pace Foundation. I now eagerly look forward to working with India’s best at the foundation. Our facilities compare favourably with the best in the world and I am eagerly looking forward to this challenge.”

    Some of the bowlers selected to train at the MRF Pace Foundation include Varun Aaron, Rahul Shukla, Ishwar Pandey, Ashok Dinda, Veer Pratap Singh, Deepak Chahar, Nathu Singh, Ankit Rajput, Anureet Singh, Shardul Thakur and CV Milind.

    MUMBAI: The marketing committee of the BCCI met earlier at the Cricket Centre, Mumbai, to receive the bids made for title sponsorship of international series and domestic tournaments to be played in India in the 2014-15 season. 

     

    The winning bid for the title sponsorship rights was made by Micromax Informatics, for a fee of Rs18,01,80,000.

     

    BCCI  honourary secretary Sanjay Patel said, “The BCCI welcomes Micromax Informatics as a partner for the 2014-15 season. The forthcoming series between India and the West Indies will feature some exciting cricket. There will be plenty of action in the domestic competitions as well. We have no doubt that it will be a fruitful association.”

    MUMBAI:  The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited bids for sponsorship rights for both international and domestic matches.

     

    BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel through a statement has said that the marketing committee of the BCCI which met earlier has decided to finalise the ‘Invitation To Tender’ (ITT) for title sponsorship rights for both international and domestic matches for the period from September 2014 to 30 April 2015.

     

    During the stipulated period, India will be seen playing against West Indies for three tests, five one day internationals and one T20 International.

     

    The sponsorship rights will also extend to five domestic series like the Irani Cup, Ranji trophy, Duleep trophy, Vijay Hazare KO and Prof. D.B. Deodhar trophy.

    Available at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, the ITT will be available from 11 am to 5 pm from 6 August to 26 August 2014. The tender fee has been priced at Rs 2 lakh.

     

    Interested bidders will have to submit their bids by 11 am on 28 august 2014 after which the bids will be opened, evaluated and the tender be awarded in the presence of the bidders.

     

    During the last season, Star India had won the sponsorship rights from 0ctober 2013 to March 2014 wherein it had agreed to pay Rs 2 crore per match.

    Champions League T20 to kick start in India from 13 September

    MUMBAI: Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Chennai Super Kings, in the inaugural group match of the Champions League Twenty20 2014, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad, on 17 September 2014.

     

    India will host the sixth edition of the world’s premier domestic T20 competition from 13 September 2014 to 4 October 2014. The tournament will follow a format similar to the three previous editions, with a Group Stage preceded by a Qualifier. A total of 29 matches will be played in the competition.

     

    The Qualifier will start from 13 September with the main tournament, comprising 10 teams, scheduled to begin from 17 September in Hyderabad. 

     

    Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings apart, Group A will comprise Dolphins (winners of South Africa’s domestic T20 competition), Perth Scorchers (Big Bash League winners), and a team from the CLT20 2014 Qualifier.

     

    Group B will feature Hobart Hurricanes (Big Bash League runners-up), the winner of the domestic T20 competition in the West Indies, Kings XI Punjab (runners-up in IPL 2014), Cape Cobras (runners-up in South Africa’s domestic T20 competition), and a team from the CLT20 2014 Qualifier.

     

    Each side will play the other four in its group once, with the top two sides from each group going through to the semi-finals.

     

    BCCI honorable secretary Sanjay Patel said, “The Group stage matches will be played at Mohali, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Raipur. The Qualifier will be played at Raipur. The CLT20 Governing Council has confirmed the teams that will compete for a total prize money of US $ 6 million.”

     

    The CLT20 2014 Qualifier, to be played till 16 September, will feature four teams – Mumbai Indians (fourth-ranked team in IPL 2014), Northern Knights (winners of New Zealand’s domestic T20 competition), Southern Express (winners of Sri Lanka’s domestic T20 tournament) and Lahore Lions (Pakistan’s domestic T20 competition champions).

     

    In the Qualifier, all teams will play each other once, with the top two advancing to the Group Stage.

     

    The top team from Group A will play the second-ranked team from Group B, and vice versa, in the semi-finals, both of which will be played at Hyderabad on 2 October. Bengaluru will host the final on 4 October.

    During the ongoing Test series between India and the West Indies, all Twitter users who send an appreciative message for Sachin to the @BCCI handle with the #ThankYouSachin hashtag will instantaneously receive a Tweet from @BCCI with a momentous picture of Sachin, including a personalised message and signature in his handwriting.

    Since @BCCI announced the integration in a series of Tweets this morning, thousands of fans have participated, including several cricketers like Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir, to receive their own personal picture of Sachin.

    @BCCI is encouraging its audiences to connect and tweet multiple times – via the web, TV and more – as there are many different images and messages that fans can avail of. The integration will be live, while the Kolkata and Mumbai Tests are being played. The service is supported by Twitter India and Digigraph.me. Twitter India applauded the service in a blog post this morning.
