    Sahara One Sangeet Awards honours Lata Mangeshkar

    MUMABI: The melody queen Lata Mangeshkar has been conferred the Legend Honour at the Sahara One Sangeet Awards 2005. Jaya Bachchan presented the award to Mangeshkar.

    Simultaneously, at the occasion, Sahara One Sangeet Awards trophy adorned with gold and studded with precious stones was revealed. The trophy has been crafted by D’damas.

    The felicitation ceremony was attended by the nominees of Sahara One Sangeet Awards 2005, along with stalwarts of the music and film industry at J WT Marriort, Mumbai.

    Percept D’ Mark (PDM) MD and CEO Sanjay Lal said, “Lataji’s reign over the world of playback singing is undisputed. She has lent her voice to heroines across three generations from Madhubala to Sridevi to Preity Zinta. She is indeed a true living legend and undeniably the supreme voice of Indian music.”

    Speaking on behalf of the jury, the director blockbuster Sholay Ramesh Sippy said “Lataji is the ideal exponent of everything to do with music. Her talent transcends time. She can convey every emotion through her voice. In Indian film music, there cannot be anything greater than her and her contribution to India’s musical heritage is irrefutable.”

    Lata Mangeshkar who started her singing career with Marathi films like Majhe Baal, Pahili Mangalagaur and Gaja Bhau, later shifted to the Hindi film industry. The Nightingale of India has reigned supreme throughout her career spanning over six decades.

    The international partner, US based Mehta Entertainment CEO Deepak Mehta says, “At this august occasion, I am experiencing mixed emotions- I am absolutely delighted that Lata ji has accepted the Legend Honour, but at the same time I regret that we have missed the privilege to play host to the precious jewel of Indian music. We will truly miss Lataji at the awards function in the US.”

    The second Sahara One Sangeet Awards will be held on 24 September 2005 in Oakland, California in the US. The media release also adds that over 120 members from the Indian film and music fraternity will be present at the occasion.

    The awards will air on Sahara One Television. PDM, have partnered with industry experts such as Sohail Khan Entertainment, Morani and Soorma of Cineyug Entertainment and Showcraft Productions.

  • Sahara One Sangeet Awards in US on 24 September

    MUMBAI: PDM International and Sahara One, along with the US based Mehta Entertainment, today announced the second Sangeet Awards, the only Indian music awards honouring excellence in Indian film and pop music on an international platform.

    After the launch of the awards at the Royal Albert Hall, London in 2004, the Sahara One Sangeet Awards 2005 will be hosted at the Oakland Arena in Oakland, California, on 24 September.

     
     
     

    Twenty four awards will be presented across three main categories: Film Music, Critics Awards in Film Music and Pop Music.

    The jury panel for the Sangeet Awards 2005 comprises Ramesh Sippy, Suresh Wadkar, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Shankar Mahadevan, Leslie Lewis, Ken Ghosh, Anubhav Sinha, Shiamak Davar and Saapna Mukherji.

     
     
     

    Announcing the Sahara One Sangeet Awards 2005, PDM International managing director and CEO Sanjay Lal said, “Sahara Sangeet Awards 2004 marked the largest international gathering ever for the Indian music fraternity, along with distinguished members from the film industry. This year, we are taking the awards to the largest international hub of Indian film and music fans – the US – in order to promote and honour Indian musical talent on an even larger platform.”

    Having received votes from the music fraternity, Ernst and Young (India), the official auditors of the awards process released the nominations per category in Film Music and Pop Music.

    Speaking on behalf of the jury, Sippy said, “We are happy to be associated with this initiative to get the Indian music fraternity its due respect and recognition. The nominees of the Sahara One Sangeet Awards 2005 are artists of great caliber and it has been a tough choice for the jury to vote upon the winners.”

    Sahara One CEO Shantonu Aditya said, “In our constant endeavour to bring innovative content to our viewers, we are proud to continue partnering the Sangeet Awards in their second year as well. With illustrious members of the music industry being felicitated amidst entertaining performances, Sangeet Awards promises to be a visual treat. This year, we shall bring the excitement to audiences not only in India, but in various other countries including the US.”

    PDM International has collaborated with US-based Mehta Entertainment as their international partners for the event.

    Mehta Entertainment CEO Deepak Mehta said, “There have been innumerable celebrity concerts in America, but the Sahara One Sangeet Awards is by far the biggest Indian entertainment extravaganza ever staged in America. We are proud to partner Sahara One and PDM in this prestigious venture.”

    Representing the Indian film industry, Shahrukh Khan was present at the occasion to acknowledge the invaluable contribution of Indian music to popularity and success of Indian cinema. He will be joining the music fraternity at the awards ceremony in Oakland and will entertain audiences with a power-packed performance, alongside other star performers.

    PDM has also partnered with Sohail Khan Entertainment, Morani and Soorma of Cineyug Entertainment and Showcraft Productions for the awards.

    Percept D’Mark launches Sangeet Awards 2004

    MUMBAI: Percept D’Mark (India) Pvt Ltd. has announced the launch of the Sangeet Awards on 1 October. The award ceremony will be held at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

    The cornerstone of the Sangeet Awards is the system of nomination based on ‘peer group recognition’. The awards process has been initiated and the same shall go through a detailed screening, nomination and selection process.

    The jury comprising people from the film and music industry like Shyam Benegal, Ramesh Sippy, Saapna Mukherjee, Sameer, Himmesh Reshammiya, Ken Ghosh, Viju Shah, Shiamak Davar and Raju Singh will vote on the nominations and decide the final award winners, as informed by the company release.

    On the launch year performance by Indian film stars, musicians and International artists and a 55- member Indian and international crew will be creating the show. The line up of performance includes Adnan Sami, Hrithik Roshan, Yana Gupta, Sameera Eddy, Rishi Rich Project from London and choreographer Shaimak Davar, along with his dance troupe will bring these performances to life. Sahara Manoranjan will bring the Sangeet Awards to Indian audiences.

    Percept D`Mark CEO Sanjay Lal said, “As we pay tribute to our melody- makers while heralding the growth of a contemporary and dynamic music culture in India, we look forward to presenting India to the world, in a brand new musical avatar at the Sangeet Awards 2004.”

    Amongst the 160 people being flown in specially to attend the Sangeet Award function are icons from the industry like Javed Akhtar, Pyarelal, Shabana Azmi, Shankar Ehsan and Loy, Farah Khan, Jatin Lalit, Feroz Khan, Fardeen Khan, Remo Fernandes, Sunidhi Chauhan to name a few, informs the company release.

    Ernst and Young, India is the official auditor of the event, and will oversee the entire voting process. In the first year, a total of 22 awards will be presented across three main categories: six film music awards, nine critics awards in film music and seven pop music awards.
