    NEW DELHI: Filmmaker and educationist Sandeep Marwah has been named the brand ambassador for the government’s `Save the Girl Child’ or Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign.

    Women And Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi made this announcement at a function where she presented award to all those who have contributed to the campaign.

    “I am happy to be here and to know that many organizations have joined hands and are voluntary propagating the most needed scheme and social requirement of Save The Girl Child,” said Gandhi in a grand function organized by Marwah Studios in association with International Chamber of Media And Entertainment Industry and Sukhi Sansar.

    The award was presented to Marwah by the Minister for being nominated by all the organizations as the brand ambassador for the Save the Girl Child- Beto Bachao Beti Padhao- Beti Mahautsav to make the 70th Independence year.

    “I have found the change in the system since different schemes have been launched and rules have been changed. I hope it continues to bring a change in the mindset of people and we will be a better society one day” said Marwah, President of Marwah Studios while thanking the Minister for showing faith in him.

    Kisan Channel wins accolades, film industry asks for entertainment tax parity

    NEW DELHI: “This is the only channel of this kind in the whole world, which is dedicated to the farmers and their welfare. It is serving more than 65 per cent of the Indian population, which stays in villages and is in agricultural business in India.”

     

    With this citation, the International Chamber of Media and Industry presented a special Award to Doordarshan’s Kisan Channel.

     

    The citation was read out by ICMEI founder-president Sandeep Marwah at the inaugural function of the International Media And Entertainment Summit here. Delegates from 30 countries attended the summit.

     

    “We are thankful to the chamber for considering the efforts of our team to start something unusual but the most needed for the nation,” said Naresh Sirohi, who is advisor to the channel.

     

    “It is a great moment for the team of Kisan Channel to receive its first award. I am happy that the media and entertainment industry has understood the need of Kisan Channel, which is only of its kind in the world,” said Doordarshan ADG Ranjan Mukherjee, who heads the channel.

     

    The award was handed over to the officers jointly by Bharatiya Janata Party senior vice president Shyam Jaju Senior and Marwah.

     

    Senior advocate Lalit Bhasin, who heads the Indo American Camber of Commerce, American deputy minister counselor economic, environment, science & technology affairs Peter Kemp, Indian Motion Indian Picture Producers Association president T P Aggarwal and Film Federation of India president J.P.Chowskey were also present.

     

    Jaju said, “The role of media is very essential in a developing economy. But it should not cross its limits. Entertainment has a very important place in our life.”

     

    “Comparing Indian media and entertainment industry of the United States, Bhasin said, “We have yet to grow at the level of America, both quantity wise and quality wise. We have to be more responsible in our actions.”

     

    “India is the largest film producing country in the world. We make around 2000 films in a year. The turnover of the film industry is going to touch Rs 12,000 crore. The industry is surviving because the passionate people, they are deriving it to its best,” said Marwah.

     

    “When there is no tax on cinema and other entertainment segments downloaded from internet why should it be imposed on cinema at theatres where much more efforts are involved. Where film industry is helping so many other industries to grow simultaneously,” added Marwah.

     

    “Most of the films are not doing well; we very rarely get our money back. Seventy five per cent of the films are in losses. Many producers have stopped making films, as recovery is difficult. Government should understand the point of view of Producer who is the real entrepreneur,” said Chowksey.

     

    “Every one who is working for cinema right from actors to spot boy gets their remuneration even before the release of the film. The producer is always at the risk. We need government support in reducing entertainment tax so that large number of people can watch cinema,” added Agarwal.

     

    All the film organisations have joined hands to pursue with the government to reduce the tax rates and bring all India entertainment tax at par to give same rebate to producers.

     

    Representatives of FFI, IMPPA, Film Craft, Western India Film Producers Association, Film Makers Combine will write a joint application to the Government very soon, informed ICMEI secretary general Ashok Tyagi.

     

    Marwah, who is chairperson of the IACC Media and Entertainment Committee, initiated the discussion by quoting figures from the Indian media and entertainment industry. “We are one of the biggest industries and we need more synchronisation and planning in developing and promoting this industry so that we can be more helpful to the government as well as to the large audience of this country.”

     

    “The business may look glamorous but the hard work and investment in the entertainment business is huge. The Government has to come down to support the industry by way of reducing taxes,” said Chowskey.

     

    Agarwal added, “We are ready to join hands on all issues, which are for the benefit of the industry. ICMEI is a strong platform to remind the government about our concerns.”

     

    “The American market of media and entertainment is in the hands of private people. The demand and supply measures the quantum of business. The industry is huge and we have catered to international business for their survival,” said Kemp.

    Delhi to host global animation film fest in October

    NEW DELHI: Delhi will be hosting the India International Animation and Cartoon Film Festival (IIACFF) in October. The festival has roped in actor Javed Jaffrey as the brand ambassador.

     

    Being organized by the International Chamber of Media And Entertainment Industry (ICMEI) and the Asian Academy for Films and Television, the Festival will be held from 1 to 05 October.

     

    IIACFF director Soumendu Sinha entered into an agreement with ICMEI president Sandeep Marwah, who heads Marwah Studio, in this connection.

     

    Marwah said, “Multimedia has taken over not only all the mediums of media, but its intervention in all other businesses is now unavoidable. Animation has emerged as a new industry all over the world. It’s time to make people aware of its qualifications.”

     

    He said the animation industry is growing at the rate of 15 per cent every year. There is hardly an industry, which is not taking the support of animation in different presentations and programmes. “India is still the most cost effective destination to produce animated films and its allied works. We are emerging as one of the biggest animation servicing industry,” Marwah added.

     

    Sinha said, “We have designed this animation festival at Hotel Meridien. Many international and national companies have started finalizing their participation. We want it to be very exclusive. With ICMEI coming on board, we have upgraded the standard of the festival.”

    Burkina Faso keen to collaborate with Indian film sector

    NEW DELHI: Burkina Faso is looking at collaborating with an Indian filmmaker to produce a film in this country.

     

    This was stated by International Chamber of Media and Entertainment (ICMEI) president Sandeep Marwah after a meeting with Burkano Faso Ambassador Idriss Raoua Ouedraogo at the Asian Academy of Film and Television in Noida Film City.

     

    “My countrymen have learned Hindi only by seeing Indian films, your films have impressed people of Burkina Faso,” said Ouedraogo.

     

    ICMEI has created a separate committee for the development and promotion of films, television, media and other segments of entertainment on Burkina Faso. 

     

    “I am ready to give every help needed to promote the relations and trade between two countries,” the Ambassador added. 

     

    “We invite a young director from Burkina Faso to come and shoot in India and can declare the first joint venture ever between the two countries,” said Marwah. 

     

    “Marwah Studio has already sent its consent as part of the Indian investment,” added Marwah.

     

    A festival of Burkina Faso films has been designed and the Ambassador has agreed to inaugurate the same in the coming months informed ICMEI secretary general Ashok Tyagi.

    Scholarship for Maldives students wanting to study cinema at AAFT

    NEW DELHI: The International Chamber of Media and Entertainment Industry (ICMEI) will give a scholarship to deserving candidates from Maldives to pursue cinema studies and filmmaking at the Asian Academy for Films and Television (AAFT) at Marwah Studio in Noida Film City.

     

    Accepting the offer, Maldives High Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed said, “To start with, Maldives can invite cultural troops from India projecting Indian film music, dance and songs and that can be attraction for people of my country as they love Indian cinema.”

     

    “India can provide strong training in filmmaking to the citizens of Maldives so that Maldives can start their own film production slowly and gradually,” said ICMEI president Sandeep Marwah.

     

    The High Commissioner was also invited by the secretary general Ashok Tyagi to the entertainment programme designed by the students of Asian School of Media Studies at Marwah Studios.

     

    Marwah also honoured the High Commissioner with life membership of International Film and Television Club of AAFT.

    Digital Short Film Festival commences in Film City, Noida

    NEW DELHI: The AAFT Festival of short Digital Films at Marwah Studio has created a record of sorts. 

     

    Throwing light on the same, Marwah Studio president Sandeep Marwah said, “We have created a world record by touching the 86th edition of our festival. There is no other festival in the World to reach to 86th edition so far.”

     

    “This is the only festival, which has given opportunity to more than 2000 directors from all over the world to showcase their debut film in the last 22 years,” added AAFT dean Kalyan Sarkar.

     

    The films that were screened during the festival were: Taj Mahal – Crown of Earth directed by Aamir Naqvi, Maa Ki Aankh by Hitesh Tandon, Bloody Red by Anjali,Sunaina by Parvesh Saini, Side Effects of Criticism by Alok Chaturvedi and Masoom by Nikhil Kapoor.

     

    “This is for the first time in the world that any film school has adapted a historical monument – A Wonder of The World – as a part of its syllabus for making and studying cinema,” Marwah added.

     

    AAFT also celebrated its curtain raiser a day before where Ecuador Ambassador Mentor Villagomez released the poster of the festival. He was also accompanied by Dr. Patricio Garces, Head of political and cultural affairs in the Ecuador Embassy.

    Sandeep Marwah on International filmfest jury in Hungary

    NEW DELHI: Marwah Studios and Asian Education Group president Sandeep Marwah is part of the 11-member international jury at the 11th edition of Jameson’s Miskolc International Film Festival commencing tomorrow.

     

    Arguably the country’s largest international event, the festival will continue from 12 to 21 September in the North of Hungary.

     

    Sandeep Marwah will conduct a Master Class at the festival and will be the member of the International jury. He will also be receiving an award for his five World Records.

     

    Marwah has already trained more than 10,000 students from 94 countries of the World. He has been representing India in number of other festivals like Cairo International Film Festival-Egypt, Mons International Film Festival-Belgium, Nigerian International Students Film Festival, Shoot For Life & Shoot For Earth film Festival –Hungary etc.

     

    The Miskoic festival will screen 20 features, 13 documentaries, 33 short features and experimental films, and 19 animation films in competition.

     

    The festival will again attempt to anchor young cinema in an international context. The festival offers great opportunity to dive into the varied film and film history scene, trace current artistic tendencies and discover and rediscover quite a number of films including Cannes, Sundance and Venice hits, some of them months before the US or French premiere.
