    Universal Pictures to release ‘Everest’ across India in September

    MUMBAI: Universal Pictures is all set to release the epic adventure Everest across India this September.

     

    This movie showcases the spine-chilling journey of a group of mountaineers who embark on a journey to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain, Everest.

     

    It is based on the real life incidents that took place in the 1996 Mount Everest disaster and stars Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, Emily Watson and Jake Gyllenhaal. Everest has been directed by Baltasar Kormákur.

     

    Inspired by the incredible events surrounding an attempt to reach Mount Everest, the movie documents the awe-inspiring journey of two different expeditions challenged beyond their limits by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered by mankind. Their mettle tested by the harshest elements found on the planet, the climbers will face nearly impossible obstacles as a lifelong obsession becomes a breathtaking struggle for survival.   

     

    Shot across the locales of Nepal, Rome and UK, Everest will focus on the challenges faced by two groups, the one that was led by Scott Fischer (played by Gyllenhaal), and the one led by Rob Hall (played by Clarke).

     

    The movie has been co-written by William Nicholson and Simon Beaufoy.

    House of Cards actress cast in Mount Everest disaster film

    MUMBAI: Golden Globe Award winning actor Robin Wright (House of Cards) and Sam Worthington (Clash of the Titans) join Everest, Deadline reports. Everest is an upcoming film based on the 1996 Mount Everest Disaster, when eight people were caught in a blizzard and died on Mount Everest during summit attempts. In the entire season, fifteen people died trying to reach the summit, making it the deadliest single year in Mount Everest’s history.

     

    Academy Award winning actor Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain) and Academy Award nominee Josh Brolin (Milk) have also been cast in the disaster epic. Joining them are actors Jason Clarke (The Great Gatsby) and Academy Award nominee John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone). Wright will play the wife is Brolin’s character, a doctor who braves the elements over an arduous night. Worthington is set to play the role of a scaling expert from New Zealand.

     

    Everest is being directed by Academy Award nominee Baltasar Kormákur (The Deep). The film is currently being shot on location in Nepal and will soon also shoot in the Italian Dolomites and at Cinecitta Studious in Rome and Pinewood Studios in the UK, according the Hollywood Reporter.

    Avatar actor arrested for punching photographer

    MUMBAI: Sam Worthington, best known for his roles in Avatar, was arrested on Sunday, 23 February after getting into an altercation with a photographer, reports New York Police Department (NYPD).

     

    The 37-year old Australian actor was accused of punching photographer Sheng Li in the face after Li allegedly kicked Worthington’s 26-year-old female companion in the shins at 5:30 p.m. in Greenwich Village, according to NYPD Detective Kellyann Ort. The department refused to reveal any details in regards to the identity of Worthington’s female companion. However, no one succumbed to any injuries.

     

    In addition to Avatar, Worthington also starred in Terminator: Salvation, Clash of the Titans, Wrath of the Titans, Drift, Man on a Ledge, Rogue. He auditioned for the role of James Bond in Casino Royale, but lost to Daniel Craig.

    MUMBAI: China’s Huading awards are set to see some high profile Hollywood actors such as Quentin Tarantino, Nicole Kidman and Nicholas Cage. The award night is to be held at Macau on 7 October.

     

    The award show is based on voting for top athletics and entertainment talent and is a type of Chinese Oscars. Sam Worthington from Avatar, Jeremy Irons and Matthew Perry from F.R.I.E.N.D.S are the other stars that are to be seen at the event.

     

    Hong Kong auteur Wong Kar Wai and Jackie Chan will be the representatives of China.

     

    The awards event was set up in 2007 by Media Company Global Talents Media group in Beijing and is held many times a year to honour talents in various fields.

    James Cameron plans out an ‘Avatar’ movie quadrilogy

    MUMBAI: James Cameron’s planned Avatar movie trilogy is becoming a quadrilogy.

    Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds), Shane Salerno (Savages) and Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planets of the Apes) have been hired to collaborate with the director to write three follow-ups to Cameron’s 2009 sci-fi blockbuster hit Avatar, 20th Century Fox announced last week.

     

    The original currently stands as the USA’s all-time box-office tyrant with a take of $760 million.

     

    The first sequel to Avatar, which followed a space marine (Sam Worthington) going native with a race of blue alien Na’vi on the moon Pandora, will begin production next year and will film simultaneously with the two other sequels.

     

    Avatar 2 is due out in December 2016, with Avatar 3 coming in December 2017 and Avatar 4 tentatively releasing December 2018.

    Release of Avatar 2 deferred to 2015

    MUMBAI: The release of the sequel to Avatar titled Avatar 2 has been deferred to 2015. Director James Cameron is set to release the follow up to the 2009 fantasy film one year later than Fox executives had originally planned, it is understood.

    Avatar 2 is set to be filmed in Peter Jackson‘s production studio in New Zealand. Cameron is said to have purchased 2,500 acres of farmland near Pounui, a 15-mintue helicopter ride from Peter‘s Wellington production studio, where he plans to shoot both Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 with motion-capture effects set to be done on a stage in California.
    The filmmaker is expected to live in New Zealand for 18 months while he shoots the two follow up movies.
    The sequel to Avatar is expected to see Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver and Zoe Saldana reprise their roles in the movie.

    Avatar 2 will release in 2016

    MUMBAI: James Cameron‘s Avatar 2 has reportedly been delayed. The much-awaited film was originally scheduled to release in 2014, but there is news that the Avatar sequel may be pushed back for a 2016 opening.

    It has however been revealed that the new film will showcase advanced technology that includes a higher rate of 3D camera system and the CG and performance capture.

    Way back in October 2010, 20th Century Fox had announced that Avatar 2 would release in December 2014 and Avatar 3 in December 2015.

    Cameron has signed up to return to the director‘s seat and has planned to film the two sequels back-to-back.

    Starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Michelle Rodriguez and Sigourney Weaver, Avatar released in 2009 and was named the highest grossing film of all time.
