Post the huge success of Bodyguard, Siddique had offers from many banners possible but since this was a commitment made even before the release of Bodyguard, he kept his word and told all the producers that he will first fulfill his prior commitment of making the film with Shyam Bajaj and then consider other offers.

Ra.One nets Rs 803 million at BO

MUMBAI: Shah Rukh Khan‘s most ambitious superhero film Ra.One, as things emerge, has mainly its special effects to offer sans a plausible script and entertainment. Eventually the film ends up with more than its share of detractors as the audience show thumbs down to the film.

The film opened to average opening of Rs 146 million on 26 October, reached its pinnacle with an impressive Rs 235 million on day two but started to slide thereafter. The movie ended its five-day weekend with a net collection of Rs 803 million with an added advantage coming from 3,300 print release as well as from enhanced admission rates.

The controversy created around the film‘s comparison with Salman Khan‘s Bodyguard, backfired as the campaign based on false figures fails to stand its ground.

Ra.One‘s collections, as the new week opened today, are low and expected with little hope of sustaining.

Meanwhile, both Tell Me O Khuda and Damadamm failed to make any mark with poor or nil audience turn out.

However, Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge remained steady despite dull period. It collected Rs 19 million to take its two week tally to Rs 55.5 million.
Azaan earned a symbolic Rs 5 million with a two week total reaching to Rs 23 million.

Rascals added Rs 9 million to take its three week total to Rs 278 million.
Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster added about Rs 10 million despite all odds to reach a total of Rs 99 million.

Satish Kaushik buys remaking rights of Tamil film Pithamagan

MUMBAI: Satish Kaushik, who helmed the Salman Khan blockbuster Tere Naam, has bought the copyrights of the Tamil film Pithamagan.

Remarked Kaushik. “I had seen Pithamagan way back in 2003 and was moved by the story, especially the character played by Vikram. For this film, I am going to cast two very strong actors. One of them will be an action hero with innocent looks. But I haven’t narrowed down on any names yet.”

The story of Pithamagan, a movie directed by Bala, revolves around four characters. Chithan (Vikram), orphaned at a young age and devoid of all human contacts, lives on his animal instincts and ekes out a living as a graveyard caretaker. He seems to exhibit behaviour consistent with autism spectrum disorders.

Gomathy (Sangeetha), a petty ganja seller, pities Chithan‘s condition and gets him a job at the ganja fields of the main villain.

Sakthi (Surya Sivakumar), the conman, cons Manju (Laila), a polytechnic student, but does not get away with it. Sakthi meets Chithan in jail and takes pity on him and befriends with him. It is Sakthi’s affection that melts Chithan’s stony heart. Later, Sakthi gets into trouble with an influential narcotics dealer and the story moves slowly into a gory and fitting finale.

Kaushik wants to either cast actor Saif Ali Khan or Hrithik Roshan for the character Vikram played in the Tamil version. “I have to start working on the project, which is going to take some time. Until such time, I really can’t talk about who I would like to cast in the movie,” said Kaushik.

Hindi remake of Dookudu to star Salman Khan

MUMBAI: If everything goes well, Mahesh Babu‘s Telugu film Dookudu is set to be remade in Hindi with Salman Khan in the lead.

Said script writer Kona Venkat, who worked on Ready in Telugu and Hindi and is also associated with Anees Bazmee‘s No Entry sequel and Sohail Khan‘s Sher Khan, “Sreenu, who directed Ready in Telugu, is keen to remake Dookudu in Hindi with Salman. In fact, the lead character‘s heroism suits Salman bhai perfectly. We won‘t need to make alterations for the Hindi version.”

The Telugu film has been doing excellent business all over earning till date Rs 300 million. While the Mahesh Babu film cost Rs 350 million to make, the budget set aside for the Hindi version has been pegged at Rs 600 million.

Interestingly, Dookudu was written keeping Khan in mind. But there is a hitch that needs to be solved. While the protagonist in the Telugu film is a cop, Khan doesn’t want to do a cop film till the Dabaang sequel. Airing his views Venkat said if the filmmakers of the Telugu remake decide to wait till Dabangg 2 is ready, then there should be no reason for Salman to decline the movie.

The filmmakers are awaiting Khan to see the film and green signal its making.
