    Mumbai: To mark the launch of the original docuseries Angry Young Men on Prime Video, a stunning mural has been unveiled in Bandra as a tribute to the iconic screenwriting duo Salim-Javed. Created by fans this vibrant piece of art honors their monumental influence on Hindi cinema. The mural showcases larger-than-life portraits of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, surrounded by titles of their most iconic films—Sholay, Seeta Aur Geeta, Kranti, Trishul, Chacha Bhatija, Aakhri Daaon, and Yaadon Ki Baaraat—rendered in the classic vintage Bollywood poster style. It beautifully captures the essence of the ‘Angry Young Man’ archetype that Salim-Javed so masterfully crafted, celebrating their revolutionary stories, unforgettable characters, and powerful dialogues that forever changed the landscape of Indian cinema.

    Zee Classic to air ‘Deewaar’

    MUMBAI: Zee Classic that believes in ‘Woh Zamaana Kare Deewana’ is all set to quench the audiences thirst for classic cinema. The channel brings the ultimate family drama ‘Deewaar’ starring Amitabh Bachchan, Sashi Kapoor, Parveen Babi, Neetu Singh and Nirupa Roy this Sunday, 7 June at 2 pm.

     

    Written by Salim- Javed and directed by veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra’s ‘Deewaar’ received unprecedented success. The film in totality ran for over 100 weeks and was one of the only 13 films that grossed over Rs one crore mark in every territory across India between 1970s-1980s. Considered among the top 10 money-spinners of the industry, ‘Deewaar’ was a trend setter in true sense. Starting from iconic dialogues such as ‘Mere Paaas Maa Hai’ to ‘Main aaj bhi phenke huye paise nahi uthatha’ the film turned out to be the plinth for Amitabh Bachchan’s thriving stardom.

     

    Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) and Ravi (Shashi Kapoor) are two brothers who were raised in poor conditions by their formidable mother (Nirupa Roy).  However dire social circumstances lead both brothers to follow different life choices and career paths. Where, Vijay turns out to be a shrewd criminal, Ravi chooses to be a police inspector assigned to locate lawbreakers. Vijay burnt with anger for the social injustice caused by the society on his family especially his mother wants to provide her with all the luxuries of life. And thus begins a fundamental battle of the righteous ideologies.

    Shuddh Desi Romance wins hearts, collects Rs 22.2 crore

    Zanjeer, the supposed remake of the 1973 film by Salim Javed of the same name, which in turn was inspired by the 1967 Hollywood spaghetti Western, Death Rides A Horse, which went on to become a classic hit, was adapted by Apporva Lakhia and so mutilated that it has turned out to be a disaster that it deserved to be. From its poor casting to mediocre execution the film lacked on all counts, accounting for a poor Rs 9.45 crore for its opening weekend.

     

    Shuddh Desi Romance, a small budgeted entertainer catering to the thoughts of the contemporary youth, seeking company, relationship and sex sans commitment has worked well and is on its way to becoming a hit. The Sushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra, Vaani Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor starrer has collected Rs 22.2 crore.

     

    Madras Café starring John Abraham and Nargis Fakhri has not worked with the audience as it collected Rs 8.1 crore in its second week to take its total to Rs 39.55 crore for two weeks.

     

    Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara has earned the flop title, adding just Rs 50 lakh in its third week to take its three week total to 55.05 crore.

     

    Chennai Express that paired Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone once again after Om Shanti Om has collected Rs 4.7 crore in its fourth week to take its four week tally to Rs 199.4 crore.

    B.A. Pass has collected Rs 30 lakh in its fifth week thus taking its five week total to Rs 7.7 crore.
