MUMBAI: Sajid Nadiadwala, who has produced over a dozen films with various top stars and given break to some new directors, will wield the megaphone for his next production, Kick.

Kick will star Salman Khan in the lead, while the other star cast yet to be finalised.

Nadiadwala, who started out as a production assistant in his Uncle Habib Nadiadwala’s production company over 30 years back, turned producer in late 80 with Zulm Ki Hukumat starring Dharmendra and Govinda. The film, which faced a lot of hurdles, finally saw release in 1992. After braving some setbacks in his early productions, he finally saw his first hit, Jeet in 1996 followed by Judwaa the very next year.

Since then Nadiadwala has produced 14 films with a tremendous success ratio as well as establishing his banner, Nadiadwala Grandson, as one of the top three independent production houses in the Hindi film industry.

When asked what made him take this decision, Nadiadwala attributes it to Salman Khan who first made this suggestion almost 10 years back and has been doing so often. “I am now ready to take the plunge,” he said.

For Nadiadwala, who has produced five films with Salman Khan and is known to be actively involved in all aspects of his home productions, turning to direction was inevitable and a matter of time.

Sajid Nadiadwala teams up with Karan Johar for 2 States

MUMBAI: After a lot of speculation, Karan Johar has teamed up with Sajid Nadiadwala in Chetan Bhagat’s adaptation of ‘2 States’.

The producers have zeroed in on Arjun Kapoor to play the lead role in the film which will be directed by debutant Abhishek Verman, son of veteran art director R Verman.

It may be recollected that Nadiadwala had bought the rights of the Chetan Bhagat book and had initially planned to make the film with SRK that was to be directed by Vishal Bhardwaj.

However, plans fizzled out after which Ranbir Kapoor stepped in and it was only then that it was decided to have a co-production with Karan Johar’s company Dharma Productions. Later, Imran Khan stepped in; however, he too opted out due to date problems.

It is being said that Kapoor will play a typical Delhi boy who falls in love with a south Indian girl.

Nadiadwala’s ‘Kick’ to have ‘Transporter’ style action

MUMBAI: Everyone knows of Salman Khan’s penchant to do larger-than-life action sequences in films such as Wanted and Dabangg.

The actor is now set to do stunts similar to that of Jason Statham‘s Transporter series in his upcoming film Kick directed by Shirish Kunder. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala has roped in a stunt coordinator who has worked with Statham in his films.

According to media reports, Philip Guegan – who coordinated the action in the first Transporter film – is believed to have been brought on board as the stunt coordinator for the movie.

It is learnt that this idea was suggested by Sajid Nadiadwala himself. From the time the producer acquired the rights to remake the south Indian hit Kick in Hindi with Khan, he has been thinking of ways to not only make it differently but also take it to another level as far as the action sequences are concerned.

The whole idea was to have more realistic, raw and hardcore action so that the viewer can comprehend what the baddies actually feel when Khan kicks or punches them.
