    Prime Focus proud to partner with the 100 crores grosser Housefull 3.

    MUMBAI: After stupendous success of Housefull and Housefull 2, Sajid Nadiadwala is back with the latest installment in the Housefull series – Houseful 3 and Prime Focus is proud to have delivered for the third consecutive time a full suite of VFX, DI & wide range of shooting kit for the movie.

    Of the many VFX shots delivered for Housefull 3, Prime Focus predominantly worked on restructuring the entire architecture of the house, adding crucial extensions and backgrounds.

    Mahesh Baria, VFX Supervisor explains, “The complexity came in making the castle look bigger which we were able to achieve with the help of CGI. We replaced the original building with a much larger structure and at the same time ensured that the lighting conditions matched the original live footage.”

    Additionally, CGI was used to create a colony of ants for what might be one of the most hilarious sequences in the film. The greatest challenged faced by the CG team at Prime Focus was to capture the randomness of the ants’ movement on an uneven surface. The animation team went through huge amounts of reference footage of ants’ movements, which they developed into a behavioral pattern so that the ants in the film reacted realistically to their environment.

    In addition to providing VFX, Prime Focus also provided a flawless DI service and supplied a wide range of shooting equipment and technical support to the production. Colorist Aashirwad Hadkar, who also graded Housefull 2, set the overall look and colour palette of the film.

    Speaking on Prime Focus’ contribution to Housefull 3, Sajid-Farhad said, “Having already worked on the first two films in the series, the VFX and DI teams at Prime Focus were the perfect partners for us on Housefull 3. We were more than impressed by the creative services and the camera rental services that they delivered for the film.”

    Housefull 3 released on 3rd June 2016 and emerged as the highest opening weekend grosser of 2016.

    MUMBAI: Houseful 3 follows Sajid Nadiadwala’s Houseful (2010) and Houseful 2 (2012), both of which saw varying degrees of success. This instalment too follows the same pattern of many characters filling the screen with silly gags and actions that are meant to keep the viewer occupied. In short, it is a leave-your-brain-at-home film that does not require a script.

    Boman Irani is a kind of shipping tycoon based in UK with three daughters, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri and Lisa Haydon who he assumes to be simple, sanskari girls living according to their names: Ganga, Jamuna and Saraswati. He has some superstition about women in his family marrying because there are instances of bad happenings in the aftermath.

    However, unknown to Boman as well as to each other, all three sisters have a man in their life. These are Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh. These three pretend to be in love but their real aim is to pocket many millions of wealth that vests between these three sisters.

    Boman has sought the help of Chunky Pandey, playing Aakhri Pasta in all the films, who comes dressed as a fortuneteller and predicts that the marriage of each girl bodes ill for Boman, who will die the moment the each sister’s man sets eyes on him, or steps into the house or utters the first word to Boman, respectively.

    For the comedy and buffoonery to happen, most of the characters have to be under one roof. The girls and guys devise a plan. Akshay, an aspiring footballer, comes over on a wheel chair, he is incapable of stepping down or walking so Boman is safe on that count. Abhishek, dreaming of becoming a rapper, enters the house as a mute so there is no question of uttering a word to Boman. Riteish, who is raring to become a formula one driver, pretends to be blind; he can’t set eyes on Boman and hence even the third bad omen is ineffective.

    Now enter three more suitors for these girls in Nikitin Dheer, Sameer Kochhar and Arav Chowdhary. Just out of jail, they are presented as Boman’s choice for the girls. Jackie Shroff enters the scene. An ex-don of Mumbai, Jackie is also just out of jail and decides to meet his underling, Boman in London. When jailed, Jackie had transferred Boman along with all his wealth to London. He also agrees with Boman’s choice of boys.

    For Dheer, Kochhar and Chowdhary, the hitch is that though Boman and Jackie prefer them for the girls, but the girls love Akshay, Abhishek and Riteish. After some more one-upmanship duels between the two groups, the good have to win over the evil. The idea is toraise some laughter and, hence, the battles have to be won with wit, not hand-to-hand fights.

    The film does not have to adhere to a particular script. It resorts to gags to follow a loosely woven story and anything can be turned or twisted at will. On that count, Sajid and Farhad do a fair job. The film has passable musical score despite a number of lyric writers and composers; however, the choreography is executed in an entertaining manner. Photography captures lush London locations very well.

    As for performances, Akshay Kumar, playing one with a split personality, excels in this film with his varied expressions and deadpan timing. Abhishek and Riteish play the perfect foils. Jacqueline, Nargis and Lisa add to the glamour quotient. Boman and Jackie do well. Of the three villains, Nikitin towers over the rest while Kochhar and Chowdhary are okay.

    Houseful 3 is a fair entertainer to hit the cinemas after a long draught. The film caters to all kind of audience and should manage a decent stay at the box office.

    Eros readies pipeline of 65 movies across 7 languages in 2016

    MUMBAI: Even as it has been embroiled in controversy over the last few months regarding its accounting practices, Eros International is planning to release as many as 65 movies in 2016 across seven different Indian languages like Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali and Punjabi.

     

    Additionally, Eros is also planning to release Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani in China and other international markets in 2016.

     

    HINDI

     

    Eros’ Hindi films pipeline for 2016 includes R. Balki’s Ki & Ka starring Arjun Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, the promos of which are already out. The company will also be releasing Sajid Nadiadwala’s Housefull 3 starring Akshay Kumar, and Rohit Dhawan’s Dishoom starring John Abraham and Varun Dhawan.

     

    Baar Baar Dekho – a love story starring Katrina Kaif and Siddharth Malhotra will be releasing in association with Dharma Production, whereas Rock On 2 featuring Farhan Akhtar and Shraddha Kapoor will be released with Excel Entertainment.

     

    After associating with producer-director Aanand L Rai on films like Tanu Weds Manu Returns and Raanjhanaa, Eros will release multiple films with Rai’s joint production company Colour Yellow Production. These include Nil Battey Sannata that has received a good response at various festivals including the 20th Busan International Film Festival, 59th BFI London Film Festival with Swara Bhaskar wining the Best Actress at the Silk Road Film Festival of China. Also in the pipeline are films like Happy Bhaag Jayegi, a comedy that will present the first-time pair of Abhay Deol and Diana Penty and Manmarziyan, a romantic drama starring Bhumi Pednekar and Ayushmann Khurrana. 

     

    Apart from these, Rai is also working on his own directorial film, which will go into production this summer.

     

    This Diwali, Eros will release Ajay Devgn’s action drama – Shivaay. 

     

    After co-producing films like Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani, Eros and Bhansali Productions will be joining hands on more co-productions, details of which will be announced at a later date. 

     

    Also scheduled to go on floor this year will be Eros and Phantom’s socio-drama superhero film Bhavesh Joshistarring Harshvardhan Kapoor to be directed by Vikramaditya Motwane.

     

    Other films slated to release in 2016 include Hansal Mehta’s critically-acclaimed Aligarh, Marathi director and National award winner Ravi Jadhav’s Hindi debut Banjo starring Riteish Deshmukh and Nargis Fakri, director Mohit Jha’s sports drama Saat Kadam and Pawan Kripalani’s psychological thriller Phobia starring Raadhika Apte.

     

    Eros will also release Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao’s musical love story Sanam Teri Kasam starringnewcomers Harshvardhan Rane and Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane; Do Lafzon Ki Kahani by Deepak Tijori with Randeep Hooda and Kajal Agarwal as the lead pair along with Saif Ali Khan starrer Chef, a remake of 2014’s Hollywood hit Chef.

     

    REGIONAL LANGUAGES

     

    The company’s regional slate includes Marathi films like Sanjay Jadhav’s Guru, National award winning director Sujay Dahake’s Phuntroo, and Prakash Kunte’s & Jara Hatke. 

     

    Eros has already released the Telugu films – Balakrishna’s Dictator on 14 January, Pawan Kalyan’s Sardar Gabbar Singh, Mammootty’s Malayalam films White and Fahad Fazil’s Nale along with 2 Penkuttikalfeaturing Tovino Thomas, Amala Paul, Anju Kurian and Anna Fathima.

     

    Following the release of Bengali film Monchora by Sandip Ray with Abir Chatterjee and Raima Sen in January, Eros will release Prakton directed by Shiboprasad Mukherjee starring Prosenjit Chatterjee and Rituparna Sengupta paired together after a decade.

    The company is also collaborating with Harry Baweja to co-produce the sequel to the 3D animation film, Chaar Sahibzade, titled Chaar Sahibzaade 2 (Rise of Banda Singh Bahadur) followed by another 3D animation film Guru Tegh Bahadur.

    Tamasha …….A dull show

    Among the various genres of movies are psycho thriller and romance. Tamasha is a combination of these two and can be called a psycho-romance. The title of the film sounds like a 1980s B grade movie and does not quite go with the film, though. Like in most of his films, here too, the director, Imtiaz Ali, counts a lot on scenic locations. He has shot the romantic parts of the film in the Mediterranean island of Corsica.

    Imtiaz probably watched something like Roman Holiday before he sat down to write the film. It starts in a similar fashion, with a meeting between Ranbir Kapoor, a mid-level executive and Deepika Padukone, a tea estate tycoon. Both know that this is a temporary encounter and agree not to reveal their real names or backgrounds to each other. They also decided on not having a physical relation or body contact!

    Both explore the beautiful island and sing and dance with the local performers. Ranbir has been fond of listening to stories since his childhood—myths, legends and folk—anything. He then loves to act out the characters. He introduces himself as Don who is on the radar of the police from 12 countries. In a song he sings with Deepika, he mimics late Dev Anand. That is his idea of fun in his life.

    The holiday comes to an end and both have fallen in love but decide to stick to their agreement. However, Deepika, when she is leaving Ranbir while he is still sleeping, can’t resist her urges and gets into his bed.

    Back in India, Deepika has taken over the tea company in Kolkata from her father while Ranbir joins his dull job in Delhi. He is sincere and hardworking in his otherwise dull life. Deepika is on a visit to Delhi in connection with her business where she learns that Ranbir frequents a restaurant and decides to meet up with him. They meet and the romance resumes. Ranbir thinks it is time to pop the question and, amid a get-together with a handful of friends, he proposes to Deepika with a ring planted on a cake.

    Deepika then realizes that this is not the Ranbir she fell in love with. The Ranbir she knew in Corsica was a fun loving, happy-go-lucky man. The one she knows now in India is a dull man with a set routine with no excitement in life. He is not ambitious, does his job routinely, also meets up with her every evening, they spend time together and that is that. She does not think this is the man and this is the kind of life she wants to get into. They part. But Ranbir takes it hard. From here on, Deepika vanishes from the scene and it is all about Ranbir. He goes berserk, acts rude with people around and, finally, also misbehaves with his boss.

    Ranbir is now jobless for some months and decides to go spend some time with his parents. There is no peace here. All his life, Ranbir’s decisions had been made by his father, Javed Sheikh, because of who Ranbir’s life became what it was—mundane. Javed is upset to know about Ranbir losing his job. As is his wont, Javed starts lecturing Ranbir again leading to him walking out. Ranbir goes in search of the old man from whom he listened to stories as a child and asks him to compete his own love story which is stuck halfway. In the process, he gleans enlightenment that his story would be what he wanted it to be.

    Ranbir sheds his act of being a disciplined, mid-level white-collar worker. He takes to his real self, in dressing, behavior as well as likes and dislikes. He is now custom made for Deepika.

    Tamasha starts off by confusing the viewer. The film makes one think the couple has known each other for ages but are only putting on an act though, actually, this is their first meeting as Deepika has lost her bag with money and passport. Nobody seems to know English in Corsica and nobody would allow her to make a phone call either. Ranbir, the lone other Indian on the scene is there to help her. The romance then takes a backseat as the footage dwells on Ranbir’s troubled dual life and that makes for a boring viewing. Direction is below par with many contradiction and glitches. The film is overloaded with songs of which Matargashti… , Agar tum saath ho… and Andheri raat mein appeal. Dialogue is routine. Cinematography is pleasing. Editing is slack.

    The film has few characters, depending mostly on Ranbir and Deepika. While Ranbir has a limited range but most footage to which he can’t do justice. Deepika is vibrant and gives a good account of herself. Sadly, the chemistry the duo shared is missing here. Javed Sheikh has about three scenes and the only time he has to perform is when he has to get up from his chair.

    Tamasha is poor show.

    MUMBAI: Actress Jacqueline Fernandez is Bollywood’s busy girl these days. 

     

    The actress, who was seen in Kick opposite Salman Khan last year, spoke about her future plans and hectic schedule in a candid chat. During the chat, she revealed her love for acting and how stardom, no matter at what stage she may have achieved it, still affects her in some ways.

    The long-legged Sri Lankan beauty had a very slow 2013 with almost no offers, but having passed that phase, she is now happy and grateful to Sajid Nadiadwala and Salman Khan for giving her the opportunity of a lifetime with Kick.

     

    The actress said, “Last year I finished a Hollywood film, Definition of Fear, a Sri Lankan movie, According to Matthew and a cameo in Bangistaan. I’ve been shooting for Brothers since.”

     

    Brothers is produced by Karan Johar and directed by Karan Malhotra, where for the first time she plays the role of a wife and young mother alongside Akshay Kumar. “For the first time, I was bringing something to the table. It was liberating to finally bag a meaningful role,” confessed Fernandez.

     

    Not only that, after a busy 2014, this year also the actress has loads to look forward to with Dhishoom opposite Varun Dhawan, which goes on floors next month and Turbanator with Tiger Shroff, followed by Sajid Nadiadwala’s Housefull 3. “I’m greedy and trying to squeeze in one more movie in 2015,” she exclaimed with a smile.

    MUMBAI: Kick, Sajid Nadiadwala’s directorial debut, was expected to go slow till ‘Eid’ but nothing seems to stop the Salman Khan action thriller as the film took a flying start despite the fasting month of Ramzan being in its last phase where no distractions work.

     

    The film, which collected an unprecedented Rs 83.85 crore for its opening weekend, is expected to continue to add healthy figures from Eid day (29 July) onwards.

     

    Hate Story 2 has done well to collect Rs 22.2 crore in its first week. Pizza 3-D, a horror suspense film has had limited appeal, managing to collect just Rs 4.45 crore in its first week.

     

    Amit Sahni Ki List caters humour that falls flat; the film collected Rs 4.2 crore in its first week.

     

    Ek Villain collected Rs 40 lakh in its fourth week taking its four week total to Rs 102.47 crore.

     

    Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania holds on very well in its second week to add Rs 19.8 crore taking its two week total to Rs 71.7 crore.

     

    Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty adds Rs 20 lakh in its seventh week to take its seven week total to Rs 111.27 crore.

    MUMBAI: You have enjoyed his dialogues, his dance moves and even his unique style… here is your chance to play Salman Khan in the newly launched Kick mobile game. Disney India’s Interactive business, today announced the launch of the official mobile game based on the most awaited movie of the year – ‘Kick’.

     

    The game has all the elements of the movie – heroism, stealth, entertainment and above all, the game avatar of Salman Khan’s character himself! Superstar Salman Khan and actress Jacqueline Fernandez were present to launch the game amidst much fanfare. Salman Khan being his usual witty self, enjoyed showing off his gaming skills and entertained the crowd with his comments and sense of humour. The game is developed for both feature phones and smartphones (Android, Windows) to reach out to a wide audience of mobile users in the country. The iOS and feature phone version of the game will be launched along with the release of the movie.

     

    In the game titled after the movie, the player takes on the role of Devil (Salman Khan’s movie character) and embarks upon a benevolent yet exciting journey where he robs from the rich and corrupt and deposits that money in the bank for philanthropic causes. The game sways in two phases letting the player experience robbing and escaping gameplays consecutively. The objective of a level is achieved only when the player manages to complete both the phases. The gamer will need to play in stealth style and escape the cops in grit. The gameplay includes numerous obstacles which include security alarms, lasers, manholes, street cones and more.

     

    Commenting on the launch of the game, actor Salman Khan, said, “We (Sajid, me and the KICK team) wanted to create an interactive experience of our movie for the fans.     SYNOPSIS OF THE FILM:

     

    On a train journey in Warsaw, apretty psychiatrist, Shaina, meets Himanshu, a police officer from India, for an arranged match. Both not wanting to marry, become friends and share their pasts.

    Heropanti: Of a one man army

    MUMBAI: There are a few oddities about Heropanti, probably created on purpose. The film is identified with the 1983 film Hero which launched, Jackie Shroff, the father of the hero of Heropanti, Tiger Shroff. All that is common between Hero and Heropanti is that the latter uses the signature flute tune of Hero, that too in a badly slaughtered and remixed version.  The genes of both films have nothing in common. This film seems to have been made on a shoestring budget with the intent of cashing in on Jackie Shroff’s goodwill of over 30 years and freshness of Tiger Shroff.

    In fact, Heropanti resembles any south Indian film where a strong family with a lot of muscle power finds suitors for its daughters in a similar family status. Even the treatment meted out is like any recent south film though here the strong muscle-wielding family is Jat, who don’t mind killing their own daughter if she marries outside of the family arrangement.

    The story goes like this: the daughter of the most dreaded Jat Chaudhary, played by Prakash Raj, has eloped with her lover on her wedding day (in films they have to vanish from the mandap for greater effect). The Chaudhary is devastated as his izzat is at stake. He decides to follow the tradition, find his daughter and her lover and kill them. To find them, he rounds up the guy’s friends because they should know where the couple has gone. While the two friends are easily picked up and half beaten to death and imprisoned, the third one, Tiger, is not as easy to handle. He bashes up all of Prakash’s goons until he is taken by surprise.

    Tiger too is locked up in a barn with his other friends and they try to escape on the first opportunity. However, Tiger wastes the chance when he spots the girl he had fallen in love at first sight back in Delhi. He decides to stay back, track the girl and win her over. As happens in film stories, the girl he loves is the Chaudhary’s other daughter. Chaudhary, who is overly possessive about his daughters and can’t bear to think that his daughters can love somebody else more than they love him.

    As Tiger displays his prowess with action and dancing while chasing his love, the second half of the film succeeds in generating more interest than the earlier part which dragged a lot. In fact, with no known face except Prakash Raj, the film is all about Tiger’s abilities.

    The fact is, Heropanti, like its title, is forced (the real Mumbai slang is Herogiri). While the background of the film is about north Jats, it is made to look like a typical southern film. The direction is shoddy with chalta hai attitude. The dialogue is good in parts. Action is very well shot. The film has two good numbers with well choreographed dance moves. Performance wise, Tiger excels in action and dance but needs to improve in dialogue delivery. Kriti Sanon is a mismatch with Tiger; she looks much more mature and manly. Prakash Raj is his usual self. Rest of the goons are okay.

    Heropanti has opened to over 50 per cent houses which are very good for a new face film and considering its budget. The film should jump to plus side on its first weekend of business thanks to curiosity to watch Tiger.
