  • Zee TV slots ‘India’s Best Dramebaaz’ season 2 at 9.30 pm

Zee TV slots ‘India’s Best Dramebaaz’ season 2 at 9.30 pm

MUMBAI: Come 12 December and Zee TV is all set to launch the second season of kid’s reality series India’s Best Dramebaaz. The show will be aired on Saturday and Sunday in the 9.30 pm time slot.

The channel has roped in Surf Excel as the presenting sponsor and Patanjali Dantkanti as the co-powered by sponsor for the show.

This time round, director Sajid Khan joins Sonali Bendre and Vivek Oberoi on the judges’ panel. The show will be hosted by Rithvik Dhanjani and Ravi Dubey.

Speaking about the format of the show’s second season, Zee TV business head Pradeep Hejmadi said, “The new season of India’s Best Dramebaaz looks out for children with an ability to diffuse any tension and instantly brightens your mood with their ability to entertain. The format will be same with minor changes. This time we are giving them feedback in a very nice manner. We are calling them for homework and also helping them on how they can make it better.”

He further added, “Through this season, we have a special concept of piggy bank (Gulak) wherein as they perform their points will go to the bank. If they leave the show at any point, they will have the opportunity to encash the money and take it back with them. There will never be a sad moment for the kids. Besides starting with Lil Champs itself, we made sure that the kids get exposure to the main industry. Even here our aim is to get as many guests on the show as possible so that we can give the kids more exposure.”

The channel has even taken into consideration feedback from the last season and made changes in the show. One major change was to tone down the bold content. “We have cut down the shooting schedules. Also, we have seen to it that kids don’t face any parental pressure and perform the way they want to,” Hejmadi said.

In first season, Zee TV aired the show in the 9 pm time slot. Speaking about the time shift, this season he informed, “We have seen that 9:30 pm is a good time because family aggregates more nicely post this time. We got enough views and feedback for the 9.30 pm time slot. That’s the reason we brought the non-fiction time to 9:30 pm.”

India’s Best Dramebaaz is meant to bring alive the kids talent in the most endearing manner to the audiences.

The key TG of the show is women, kids and teens and both the communication as well as the touch points have been arrived at keeping the nature of the show and the TG and target markets in mind.

The audio – visual blitzkrieg will be further amplified via the digital, print, on ground and radio platforms. Digital will not merely be restricted to promos but will have customised Dubsmashes created by Zee stars that will take them to their ‘dramebaazi’ days as kids. This will be amplified through the Zee TV social media clout.

The show launches at the cusp of the holiday season and mall activations will be used to get the kids and parents live the ‘dramebaazi’ quotient by a simple ‘wheel of dramebaazi’ game. Additionally, radio promotions will ensure that a complete 360 surround is created to ensure maximum tune-ins.

Speaking about the role that rural data will play in content creation, Hejmadi asserted, “We used to go to small areas and test the content. We always make sure that our content is acceptable across the nation. Having that is an  acknowledgement of rural popularity. We will continue to look at the patterns. So, the content creation will remain the same.”

  • ‘Humshakals’…Dumbshakals

    ‘Humshakals’…Dumbshakals

MUMBAI: In Humshakals, Sajid Khan tries to do one better on the Royal bard, William Shakespeare. Shakespeare’s one of the earliest plays was Comedy Of Errors, a play about two sets of identical twins. That was a short play about mistaken identity. On a mistaken notion that he can do better than Shakespeare, Sajid makes a film about a set of three identical sets of people who are not related. They are not separated at birth twins or triplets; they are just identical. Having taken this suicidal step, Sajid goes on to create a comedy.

Sajid has had a successful debut and follow-up in his rise as a director of films from a standup comedian of a kind who regaled in running down film folks on TV. He had a great start with Heyy Babyy! Followed by Housefull and Housefull2. Disaster caught up with him soon after when he delivered a dud in the remake of 1983 Jeetendra hit, Himmatwala; he made the mistake of trying to better it.

This time he makes the mistake of trying to improve on Shakespeare and that is quite a task. Gulzar presented a fairly decent version of the Shakespeare story in Angoor in 1982 where he had the advantage of two among the best artistes playing lead roles in Sanjeev Kumar and Deven Verma.

Saif Ali Khan is Ashok and Riteish Deshmukh is Kumar, both childhood friends. Like Ashok is the ward of a Tata or Birla kind of family whose father is in coma and the business empire is left to him to handle. His hobby is to gather people over free drinks and tell them PJs. It does not matter that he is an heir to an empire, he still wants to be known as a standup comedian. Actually, if that has nothing to do with the film’s script thereafter, nothing or no sequence has relevance. Sajid Khan just tries to put together a feature film of 159 minutes together with whatever content he comes across, relevance being immaterial.

    Producer: Vashu Bhagnani.

    Director: Sajid Khan.

Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Ram Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Tamannaah Bhatia, Esha Gupta, Satish Shah.111

So, Humshakals goes on to being one marathon jamboree of poor jokes, sick jokes, dated jokes and no jokes at all. And, the film is shot in UK where even the whites speak Hindi dutifully, an asylum has Indian attendants and doctors and it is India Raj in UK, a sort of payback for the British Raj in India.

If Angoor had great talents in Sanjeev Kumar and Deven Verma handling two roles each, here we have two limited actors in Saif and Riteish trying to better them with three each. Yes, not to forget Ram Kapoor. I mean, how many nails can you add to a coffin?

Till most of the first half, the film has one Saif and one Riteish after which another pair is added, both with same names and the third comes in the form of a villainous doctor’s handiwork who gives a face change to two of his assistants. Mercifully, the writer director are a easy with three Ram Kapoors, introducing them gradually.

What do these three humshakals do? They do buffoonery in the absence of scope for showing any histrionics. But, even in buffoonery, Satish Kaushik takes the cake as he excesses by all accounts as even Akash Khurana joins in at the end. The three girls, Bipasha Basu, Esha Gupta and Tamannaah Bhatia remain at the director’s back and call to make an appearance when he can’t think of anything else.

There is nothing such a script here but just an attempt to put together gags which, sadly, are dated and PJs. Direction is juvenile. Music is poor with no song carrying appeal. The use of foreign locations is not justified.

There is nothing that works for Humshakals and, this rather costly film, will be a big jolt for its investors.

  • Saif Ali Khan to speak in Gujarati in ‘Humshakals’

Saif Ali Khan to speak in Gujarati in ‘Humshakals’

NEW DELHI: Sajid Khan’s films are always known for their out and out comic content and his spur full wit. His upcoming film Humshakals is just an addition to his list of this condominium films. Based on the concept of comedy tripled, audiences are going gung ho to see the glimpse of this comedy flick.

Humshakals has an elaborate star cast comprising Saif Ali Khan, Ritiesh Deshmukh, Ram Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Esha Gupta and Tamannah.

What we hear is that, Saif Ali Khan will be seen speaking in Gujarati in the film fluently and some glimpse of it will be seen in the trailer as well. In fact, it was Saif himself who decided to experiment with his accent for his role to add the comic twist in the film.

This is for the second time he will be seen playing a Gujarati in a film. He had played a Gujju boy in Kal Ho Na ho.

“Saif had to learn Gujarati little more fluently, and since it is not that difficult a task he started to talk to everyone on the sets in Gujarati,” said a source close to the production team.

Produced by Fox Star Studios and Pooja Entertainment, Humshakals is directed by Sajid Khan and is all set to release on 20 June.

  • Bipasha Basu in Sajid Khan’s Humshakals

Bipasha Basu in Sajid Khan’s Humshakals

MUMBAI: Sajid Khan is now gearing up for his upcoming comic caper Humshakals. The latest addition to this film is Bipasha Basu, who was last seen in Aatma. Besides Basu, Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh and Ram Kapoor will be playing triple roles in the movie.

While Tamannaah Bhatia has been paired opposite Saif, Bipasha will play Riteish’s love interest. Other details about the characters in the film have still been kept under wraps.

Humshakals is produced by Vashu Bhagnani and Fox Star Studios and is expected to go on floor from September.

Sajid Khan started his directing career with Heyy Babyy and followed it up Housefull and Housefull 2. His recent Ajay Devgn starrer Himmatwala remake bombed at the Box-Office.

Dhawan’s Chasme Baddoor rakes in Rs 193 mn in opening weekend

MUMBAI: David Dhavan‘s remake of Sai Paranpye‘s classic Chashme Baddoor by the same name did well in its opening weekend. Patronised by youth, the film has collected Rs 193 million in its first three days.

Sajid Khan‘s Himmatwala, a poor adaptation of the 1983 film of the same name, fared poorly. A shoddy affair, the film collected about Rs 367.5 million for its first week. The film is reported to have dipped further in its second week.

Bipasha Basu starrer horror Aatma collected Rs five million in its second week taking its two week total to Rs 88.5 million.

  • Muhurat of Sajid Khan’s Himmatwala to be live on YouTube

Muhurat of Sajid Khan’s Himmatwala to be live on YouTube

MUMBAI: Director Sajid Khan has come up with a unique style of marketing for the remake of Himmatwala, said to be a true homage to the 80s. The director will host the film‘s ‘muhurat‘ live on YouTube on 22 August from Hyderabad.

It is said that when Khan explained the idea to the producers Vashu Bhagnani and Siddharth Roy Kapur, they were bowled over with the idea. Khan felt that this would give Himmatwala further fillip right from the beginning itself en route to the film‘s 29 March release next year. While the entire plan has been formulated backwards, the ‘muhurat‘ to be hosted live is a step taken forward.

While Ajay Devgn, Vashu Bhagnani and other cast and crew members will fly down to Hyderabad for the muhurat, Khan will supervise the necessary logistical arrangements along with UTV to make this as a first of its kinds shoot that ought to act as a trailblazer.

The muhurat of the film would be held at 1 pm on 22 August.
