    Colors Bangla to celebrate Mahalaya with new show ‘Nabarupe Mahadurga’

    Mumbai: Colors Bangla will be marking the auspicious occasion of Mahalaya with a new mythological show “Nabarupe Mahadurga” set to premiere on 6 October at 5 a.m. The show narrates the origin of the nine forms of the divine Goddess, namely, Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kaalratri, Mahagauri, and Siddhidatri.

    Directed by Anirban Mullick, “Nabarupe Mahadurga” will tell the timeless story of Goddess Durga – how she manifests to save the Gods and mankind from the evil Mahishasur. Anchor and actor Gaurab Chatterjee has been brought onboard as the narrator and Debajyoti Mishra has composed the score for the drama which relies heavily on dance and music. 

    Koel Mullick will be seen as Maa Durga in the show, alongside Colors Bangla’s most popular artists like Adrija Roy, Tumpa Ghosh, Titiksha Das, Pallabi Roy Jasmine Roy, Ushoshi Roy, Devlina Kumar and Saoli Chattopadhyay, who will be essaying her different forms and avatars. Samrat Mukherjee will be seen as Mahishasur.

    “Mahalaya is not just an important day but an emotion as it ends the year-long wait for Durga Puja, the most important festival celebrated by Bengalis,” said Colors Bangla business head Sagnik Ghosh. “As the name suggests Nabarupe Mahadurga will introduce the nine different forms of the goddess. We have roped in popular actress Koel Mullick to play the role of Durga and we are extremely excited to bring to our viewers this powerful act.”

    Colors Bangla will use cross promotion on other channels to generate interest for “Nabarupe Mahadurga.” On the digital front, interesting trivia about the nine forms of Maa Durga, her weapons and vahanas will be shared, said the statement.

    New Delhi: Colors Bangla is all set to telecast the fourth edition of the Joy Filmfare Awards Bangla 2020 on the channel at 6 pm on 9 May. The event will also be simulcasted live on Filmfare’s Facebook page.

    The star-studded awards ceremony was held at The Westin, Kolkata on 3 March, and was filled with glitz and panache as popular names from the Bengali film industry walked the red carpet. A host of celebrities including Anirban Bhattacharya, Aparajita Adhya, Kharaj Mukherjee, Madhumita Sarcar, and Ash King attended the event.

    “We are proud to have hosted an award ceremony that matches up to the sheer grandeur of the Bengali Film Industry that continues to make waves every passing year,” said Worldwide Media CEO Deepak Lamba, highlighting that Bengali movies have made their mark in the world of cinema through cults films and classics which have been recognised globally. “From Ray’s masterpieces to some amazing contemporary narratives by the current generation of filmmakers and artists, this film industry has proven its credibility year after year.     MUMBAI: Viacom18 has brought on Sagnik Ghosh as business head, Colors Bangla. Ghosh will be taking over from Rahul Chakravarti who cemented the channel’s position as the third ranked GEC in the highly competitive Bengali market. He will be reporting to Viacom18 regional entertainment (Bangla, Odia, Tamil and Gujarati clusters) head Rajesh Iyer.

    A cross industry veteran with over two decades of experience panning Media and Entertainment, Advertising and BFSI industries, Sagnik, in his previous assignments, had led Star Jalsha and Star Bharat to leadership positions in their respective markets and genres.

    “Regional is an important growth driver for Viacom18 and West Bengal is an important market for us. I’d like to thank Rahul for his contribution and wish him the very best in his future endeavours,” said Iyer. “Sagnik brings three important aspects to this role – his knowledge of the Bengali entertainment industry, his understanding of consumer preferences and his marketing expertise which cumulatively will dial up both the brand and the business.”

In the Hindi speaking market, he led the brand revamp of Star Plus, and re-launched Life OK as Star Bharat and led it to Number 1 position. In West Bengal, he helped in the turnaround of Star Jalsha and got it back to leadership position. Prior to joining the media and entertainment industry, Ghosh worked with top BFSI brands like Axis Bank, HSBC etc.

This January, Star Jalsha brings to the story of one such dreamer Amon, who rises above all odds to make her mark in the world. After the stupendous success of Phagun Bou, Sreemoyee and Mohor last year, Star Jalsha and Magic Moments Motion Pictures come together to present yet another “Chalo Paltai” story of 2020 – Kora Pakhi.

    The story brings together a varied range of emotions, connected by the overlying theme of love. It takes forward the philosophy of the proverb ‘Where there’s a will, there’s a way”. A journey of self-fulfillment and resolution, Kora Pakhi puts forth the story of a fearless protagonist and her journey to discovering her own identity. The show revolves around Amon, a girl who was abandoned at birth and raised by a community in Purulia, and her passion to fulfill her dream of becoming a journalist.

    During this journey, she comes across Ankur and his friend Medha who visit Amon’s village during a festival. What develops is an interesting story of a girl, aspiring to create her own identity, finds her rooting love and family while also fulfilling her dream of becoming a fierce journalist.

    Produced by Magic Moments Motion Pictures, the show will explore the story of two very different individuals whose relationship is put on trial through many hurdles posed by their diverse career choices and cultural differences.

    Kora Pakhi marks the comeback of celebrated Actress Parno Mitra on the small screen. Actor Rishii Kaushik, who returns to television after Kusum Dola, will be seen essaying the role of the free spirited “Ankur”.

    Star Jalsha to host 10-hour long super audition for Super Singer

    MUMBAI: Star Jalsha is all set to host the super auditions for Super Singer, the newest addition to its weekend primetime. An explosion of talent and entertainment will follow as the auditions will bring the biggest names from Bollywood and Tollywood to kickstart this musical extravaganza.

    For the first time, Bengali television will be privy to a 10 hour long super audition. Earlier, Super Singer Junior had enthralled the viewers with its momentous 10-hour long super finale.

    Taking forward the legacy of that monumental occasion, the channel is ready showcase the super auditions of Super Singer which will comprise 28 musical talents who have been chosen from the length and breadth of Bengal. The 10-hour long spectacle promises to be a gala affair with scintillating performances and by the likes of one and only Asha Bhosle along with Sadhna Sargam, Shaan, Kunal Ganjawala, Udit Narayan and Monali Thakur. Bengal’s very own will be seen performing on a medley with his group comprising of renowned Bengali singers like Rupankar, Lopamudra, Emon, Raghav, Somlata, Surojit, Jayati and Anwesha, during the extravaganza as well.

    These experts will join hands with judges – Kumar Sanu, Kavita Krishnamurthy and Jeet Ganguli to handpick the rising stars of tomorrow. The multi-faceted Jisshu U Sengupta will also be seen taking charge as the show’s host.

    The show is being produced by none other than Subhankar Chatterjee Productions who has changed the dynamics of Bengali television with their diverse and innovative nonfiction shows.

    MUMBAI: Star India has finally figured out who would step into the outgoing business head and GM Nikhil Madhok’s shoes.  According to a source, it is Sagnik Ghosh — senior vice-president, head of network brand strategy and marketing strategy at Star India.

    Madhok, the business head and general manager of Star India’s second GEC “Life OK” put in his papers a while ago, and is serving his notice period. He will be operating as the GM till the end of December 2016.

    Star India has elevated Ghosh as the new general manager of Life OK. He has been working with Star for more than a year now. Ghosh joined Star India as senior VP and head of marketing for Star Plus in October 2015. In June 2016, he became the head of network brand and marketing strategy. 

    Prior to joining Star India, Ghosh was working with Axis Bank as the senior vice president and marketing head. Ghosh was managing brand & strategy, digital marketing, branch marketing as well as the marketing communication function for Axis Bank and its subsidiary companies.
