  • Sony SAB launches ‘Dr. Bhanumati On Duty’, an off-beat hospital comedy

Sony SAB launches ‘Dr. Bhanumati On Duty’, an off-beat hospital comedy

MUMBAI: Sony Sab is all set to launch a new hospital based comedy series called Dr. Bhanumati On Duty. Set in rural Rajasthan, the show will focus on Dr. Bhanumati Bhinn a no-nonsense Rajasthani army doctor who is known for her unique style in curing her patients.

With actress Kavita Kaushik in the lead as Dr Bhanumati Bhinn, the show will also feature Gopi Bhalla as Lovely Singh Dhingra who is her assistant-cum-sidekick.

Dr. Bhanumati On Duty is set to hit the tube on Tuesday, 7 June onwards, Monday to Friday at 10:30 hours on Sony SAB.

The plot will chronicle the escapades of Dr. Bhanumati, her two orderlies and the patients. The vibrant Bhanumati will try to solve the problems of her patients, using her trademark catchphrase ‘Samjyo Kai’ while she treats them. The conventional army life full of vigor and discipline has influenced her strongly and she solves her patients’ medical problems in her signature ‘stunt and blunt’ style which she considers as alternative therapy. This beauty on duty believes that medicines are not the only way to cure patients!

When on duty, Bhanumati will be joined by her loyal orderly Lovely Singh and Doodhnath (Ketan Singh), who help her solve weird cases with a tinge of humour. Lovely Singh who is a loyal follower of Bhanumati’s techniques will be seen following her around causing her a major discomfort. While she tries her best to keep him away from her patients, her attempts seem to be futile which add on to the comic quotient of the show. To add to her daily dilemma, her other assistant Doodhnath is another odd character.. In fact Lovely and Doodhnath are always arguing with each other over every issue and all this banter irks Bhanumati.

The show will also see intermittent entries of other administrators like the ward boy and other junior doctors which in entirety make Dr Bhanumati Bhinn’s in-house army in her hospital.
SAB TV senior EVP & business head Anooj Kapoor said, “With Dr Bhanumati On Duty, we take a step ahead in the hospital comedy space on the channel. The concept of the show is very unconventional yet entertaining. The disciple and routine of army life has influenced Dr Bhanumati strongly and she solves her patients’ medical problems with alternative and unique kind of therapies which automatically evoke humour. We have worked with Kavita Kaushik before and we are confident that with her in the lead, the show will be well received by our viewers.”

  • TV meets digital; Sab TV ties up with Twitter

TV meets digital; Sab TV ties up with Twitter

MUMBAI: Gone are the days when the social media platform Twitter was just for a casual chit chat, it is now an important tool for mainstream media. Breaking the stereotype trend, Sab TV staying true to its brand belief of ‘Differentiation through Innovation’, brings to its audience yet another unique concept- Khidki.  The channel in partnership with television producer JD Majethia and Bollywood director Umesh Shukla has called in for entries i.e. stories from the common man through Twitter – #TweetAFunnyStory.

The brief is that entries should encompass unique yet funny stories that one has experienced in life, something that holds a special place in one’s memories and brings out the laughs. The shortlisted stories will then be presented to the world in the form of an episodic series on the channel.

Sab TV will give an opportunity to millions of families to tell their funny stories to the world. The viewers can submit their entries on Twitter or email them to humarifunnykahani@setindia.com. The most interesting and entertaining story will be told on-screen and the family will also get a chance to be a part of the series as the story heads towards the climax.

Until now, the channel has received around 4,000 stories.  The show Khidki will be a half-hour weekday show. Though the channel has not finalized the date as yet, it is planning to launch the show post IPL.

Speaking with Indiantelevision.com, Sab TV senior EVP and business head Anooj Kapoor said, “The show will be based on real life stories. So we are asking them to send their stories and incidents to us which we shall develop into an episode. At the end of that particular episode, the person who sent that incident will get a chance to appear on the show and get to talk little more about it. This will be not only give a chance to the viewer to get the sense of complete engagement, it will also make the story extremely relative to the audiences.”

Kapoor further added, “We have to attract such stories from various platforms and therefore the partnership with Twitter became a very obvious choice because it is very easy for twitterti to tweet the story and same could be evaluated by us.”

The channel is following a robust marketing strategy for Khidki. Sab TV is going all out to aggressively promote the show and invite stories through innovative marketing.

Using a unique concept, the channel is conducting marketing activation programs in the Rajdhani Express and the Shatabdi Express and some long distance trains to engage with family commuters and invite stories.  Further, window-structured ‘Khidki’ outdoor innovations have been installed to generate a buzz around the initiative. These are in addition to the traditional media mix which includes television, print, radio and outdoor. “Besides our partnership with Twitter for #TweetAFunnyStory, we are collaborating with multiple digital platforms to generate stories,” revealed Kapoor.

Twitter is complementary to the full experience of viewing a TV channel today, with each tweet being an opportunity for channels to strengthen relationships with their audiences. Twitter India continues to build strategic partnerships with broadcasters helping them amplify their message, drive more viewers and generate more user engagement with their content on the platform

On the partnership between the channel and Twitter India, Twitter India TV partnership head Viral Jani said, “We are coming together and inviting stories from the platform to give consumers a platform. We amplify their effort on our platform and with this initiative we want to tell to the world that it is a great example how you can use Twitter to reach out to your consumer. There is no deal per se, but it’s a partnership which can be mutually beneficial and also beneficial for our consumers.  Sab TV is not only engaging with our users, but also giving them an opportunity to be a part of a TV show. It is just a first step in the long term relationship with Sab TV. We will be in partnership with Sab TV for more events that it is planning to launch in few months, this is just a beginning.”

With television being one of the largest conversation generators on the platform, Twitter aims to become the second screen to TV in India engaging audiences in real-time with the best of television content. “Twitter has always been a second screen app for TV viewers, globally and as well as in India. People watch shows on television and tweet about those shows on Twitter. They love to engage with the shows, channels and celebrities who are the part of the television series. They are interested in behind the scenes, pictures, videos, and they love to do interactions, be it for a reality television show or a new show. Twitter is like a unique platform where all of them can interact with each other. Considering this, there was a hunger from the users and the TV partners, and we believe that it’s a great thing for us and for them,” concluded Jani.

  • Nickelodeon strengthens Sonic with ‘Shiva’; plans 70-80 hrs of original content

Nickelodeon strengthens Sonic with ‘Shiva’; plans 70-80 hrs of original content

MUMBAI: Viacom 18’s children’s network Nickelodeon has made a bold move by placing Nick’s iconic teen adventure program, Shiva as part of Sonic’s programming henceforth. The change is in line with Nickelodeon’s need for a strong second channel. “The idea is that in a couple of years Sonic grows to a market share that Viacom18 can boast of two strong kids channels within its network,” says Viacom18’s kids cluster EVP and business head Nina Elavia Jaipuria.

Fresh episodes of the popular teen adventure comedy series that soared to fame immediately after its launch in December 2015 will now air on Sonic, Nickelodeon’s sister channel that caters to pre-teens, teens and young adults. When asked if the network has measured the set back this move may cost the show’s viewership,Jaipuria states,“Looking at it from the show’s perspective, we have grown Shiva to an extent that it has loyal viewers, whom we hope to take to Sonic.  Because we are not dependent on any one show, we are expecting Ninja Hatori, Shaun The Sheep, Oggy and the Cockroaches and Motu Patlu to take care of Nick. We are hopeful that in spite of Shiva, Nick will retain its position in the ratings chart.” “Shiva lovers who are used to seeing the show on Nick and want to watch new episodes will have to come on Sonic,” Jaipuria added.

To carry this bold move forward Nickelodeon has also planned for an aggressive mass media campaign that will not only span across Viacom 18’s own networks, but other broadcasting network as well. “Not just Viacom18 or Nick as a network but we are looking at Star India, Sab TV and Zee TV to take this news to as many households as possible. Its is important to create an awareness that Shiva has moved from  Nick to Sonic,” Jaipuria revealed while speaking on the marketing initiatives.

In fact, in order to not dilute this communication, the Network is withholding from launching any new shows this summer, though more new and original characters are in making in the creative factory for the latter part of the year. However, the marketing initiative will also speak of the new episodes of the major shows that are to hit the screens this summer.

After mass media, print and radio, the network will also look at heavy engagement outside of television, Jaipuria shares.  Nickelodeon has partnered with malls like Infiniti, Pantaloons, Funcity, etc., to expand its on ground footprint. Van activations are also in store in about 25 tier II and tier III towns and cities for a month. Marketing initiatives will also be present in cinemas during launches of Jagga Jasoos and Housefull 3 that are soon to release.

The programming timeline vacuum left by Shiva in Nickelodeon will be filled up by brand new episodes of Ninja Hattori, Motu Patlu, Oggy and the Cockroaches and Shaun The Sheep. Apart from this, the network also has plans to release the full length feature Motu Patlu In Double Trouble, the 10th movie in line after a nine movie marathon on digital. Nickelodeon plans to go all guns blazing in promoting the fresh content including innovative watch and win contests, which will also have a digital leg to it. Overall there will 70 to 80 hours of original content on Nickelodeon in its summer programming.

With such a strong summer line up, Nickelodeon expects to sustain Nick’s number one position in the genre, while at the same time grow Sonic with Shiva. “We have always been a  very brave franchise. We have taken all the risks possible. We have started off by creating original shows in India without knowing if they will work or not. But we are risk takers and will go on to create new trends like that,” Jaipuria signs off as industry wonders if this disruptive strategy will work for Nickelodeon like past disruptions always have.
