    MUMBAI:  Celebrating 50 years of cinematic excellence, Annapurna Studios has introduced India’s first Dolby Vision grading and mastering facility for Dolby Cinema and Home. The state-of-the-art facility, located within its post-production department, is poised to revolutionise visual storytelling by offering cutting-edge technology for filmmakers.

    The  launch event on 9  January was graced by legendary filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli, who inaugurated the advanced addition to the iconic studio.

    Speaking on the occasion, Rajamouli, whose Academy award-winning RRR was the first Indian film released in Dolby Cinema, commended Annapurna Studios for its steadfast commitment to innovation and for setting new benchmarks in the Indian entertainment industry. Said he: “During the time of RRR, when we wanted to grade the film in Dolby Vision, we had to travel to Germany. It was disheartening not to experience my film in Dolby Vision in my own country. But today, I’m thrilled to see a Dolby Vision grading facility at Annapurna Studios.     Established in 1975 by Nagarjuna’s father,  Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Annapurna Studios has been a cornerstone of Indian cinema, especially for those emerging from the south of India.  Spanning 22 acres in the heart of Hyderabad, the studio offers an end-to-end filmmaking ecosystem where creators can turn their scripts into finished films. Over the decades, the studio has continually evolved to meet the growing needs of the film industry, cementing its reputation as a hub of creativity and innovation.

    The post-production  facility is led by the chief technology officer CV Rao, who has been with Annapurna Studios for nearly 14 years now. “It’s a proud moment for us,” he said, a grin on his ever smiling face as he looked at the guests who had come to the inauguration.

    The Dolby Vision grading and mastering facility is the result of a partnership with Dolby Laboratories, renowned for its ground breaking advancements in audio and visual technology.

    The team at Annapurna has been gradually exposing the addition  to different technical craftsmen involved in the post-production process. On 10 January, colorists were explained – through a master class  – the workflow  involved in  working on the Dolby Vision grading and mastering facility for Dolby Cinema and Home

    Mumbai: Graphic India and Arka Mediaworks announced that their new animated series, Baahubali: Crown of Blood, has ranked as the #1 show in Hindi on 20 May 2024 above all other live-action shows and films on Disney+Hotstar.

    Having premiered on May 17th, Season 1 of the series is a trailblazer, setting a groundbreaking new milestone for the Indian animation industry as the first original 2D-animated show to ever appear at the top of the streaming charts.

    Graphic India’s previous hit series, The Legend of Hanuman, has previously also reached number one status on the streaming charts in each of its three seasons as a 3D-animated show (most recently in January 2024) – making Graphic India the most successful animation producer in India, with two separate shows reaching the #1 ranking on Disney+Hotstar in just the last 5 months.

    Independent media consulting and data analytics group, Ormax Media listed Baahubali: Crown of Blood as the Top 3 Hindi shows or films in India for the past week across all streaming platforms in the country. Ormax estimates the show received 3.3 million viewers in just the first few days.

    Bahubali: Crown of Blood was created by S.S. Rajamouli and Sharad Devarajan and produced by Rajamouli, Devarajan & Shobu Yarlagadda, with a story by Devarajan and directed and produced by Jeevan J. Kang & Navin John.

    The epic new chapter in the Baahubali universe takes audiences into an animated untold story of epic adventure, brotherhood, betrayal, conflict and heroism.

    BARC week 24: Dangal regains pole position across genres

    BENGALURU: Enterr 10 TV’s Hindi GEC Dangal regained first place in Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) weekly list of top 10 channels in week 24 of 2019  (Saturday, 8 June 2019 to Friday, 14 June 2019, week or period under review) after a short hiatus. The channel had been placed second in the list in the previous week. Star India’s sports channel Star Sports 1 Hindi also climbed a place to second rank on the back of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup Tourney 2019 in England and Wales. Sun TV Network’s flagship Tamil GEC Sun TV dropped a couple of ranks to third place. All the channels in BARC’s weekly list of top 10 channels across genres in the week under review were the same as in the previous week, but with a shuffling of ranks.

    Six Hindi GECs and one channel each from the Hindi movies, sports, Tamil and Telugu genres made up BARC’s across genres list for week 24 of 2019. From the network’s perspective, there were three channels from Star India, two channels each from Sony Pictures Network India (SPN) and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (Zeel) and one channel each from Enterr 10 TV, Sun TV Network and Viacom18 respectively.

    As mentioned above, at first rank was Hindi GEC Dangal TV in week 24 of 2019 garnered 806687 million weekly impressions as compared to third rank and 805.510 million weekly impressions in week 23. Dangal also headed BARC’s weekly lists of top 10 Hindi GECs in the combined urban and rural Hindi speaking market -HSM (U+R) and HSM (R).  Dangal was ranked seventh in HSM (U). An Indian mythology programmes– Mahima Shanidev Ki and a family drama Baba Aiso Var Dhundo on Dangal were in BARC’s list of  Top 5 Hindi GEC programmes based on average rating across all original airings in the week in HSM (R).

    Moving up to second rank with 763.962 million weekly impressions in week 24 of 2019 was Star Sports 1 Hindi as compared with third rank and 784.016 million weekly impressions in week 23. The channel was also ranked first in BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Sports channels during the week under review. Further, three of the top 5 sports programmes on average rating across all original airings in the week were aired on Star Sports 1 Hindi.

    With 762.613 million weekly impressions in week 24 of 2019 was Sun TV at third rank as compared to first rank and 811.795 million weekly impressions in the previous week. Sun TV also headed BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Tamil channels in the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry markets and four of the top 5 Tamil programmes in this market based on average rating across all original airings in the week were aired on Sun TV.

    Maintaining its previous week’s fourth rank was Zeel’s Hindi GEC Big Magic with 690.539 million weekly impressions as compared to 695.790 million weekly impressions in week 23. Big Magic was ranked second in BARC’s weekly lists of top 10 Hindi GECs in HSM (U+R) and HSM (R). Big Magic was ranked eighth in BARC’s weekly list of top 10 Hindi GECs in HSM (U).

    Climbing up two places to fifth rank was Zeel’s flagship Hindi GEC Zee TV in week 24 of 2019 with 680.603 million weekly impressions as compared to seventh rank and 612.470 million weekly impressions in week 23. Zee TV was ranked third in HSM (U+R), HSM (U) and HSM (R). The Balaji Telefilms produced Kumkum Bhagya, its spinoff Kundali Bhagya and Tujhse Hai Raabta aired on Zee TV were among the top 5 Hindi GEC programmes based on average rating across all original airings in the week in HSM (U+R), HSM (R) and HSM (U).

    Dropping a rank to sixth place in week 24 of 2019 was Star India’s flagship Telugu GEC Star Maa with 626.797 million weekly impressions as compared to fifth rank and 653.203 million weekly impressions in week 23. Star Maa was also ranked first in BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Telugu GECs in the Andhra Pradesh/Telangana markets and three of the five programmes in BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Telugu programmes based on average rating across all original airings in the week in these markets were aired on Star Maa.

    Also dropping by a rank to seventh place in week 24 of 2019 was Star India’s flagship Hindi GEC Star Plus with 624.298 million weekly impressions as compared to sixth rank and 626.032 million weekly impressions in week 23. Star Plus was also ranked fourth in BARC’s weekly list of top 10 Hindi GECs in both HSM (U+R) and HSM (R) and first in HSM (U). Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai on Star Plus was amongst BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Hindi GEC programmes on average rating across all original airings in the week in HSM (U+R).

    SPN’s Hindi GEC Sony SAB retained its previous weeks rank at number eight with 552.626 million weekly impressions as compared to 541.665 million weekly impressions in week 23. Sony SAB was ranked fifth in BARC’s weekly lists of top 10 Hindi GECs in HSM (U+R) and HSM (R) and was ranked second in HSM (U). One of the longest running Indian sitcom – Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma on Sony SAB was among BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Hindi GEC programmes on average rating across all original airings in the week in HSM (U).

    Climbing up a rank to ninth place in week 24 of 2019 was SPN’s Hindi movies channel Sony Max with 524.681 million weekly impressions as compared to tenth rank and 526.994 million weekly impressions in the previous week. Sony Max also topped BARC’s weekly lists of top 5 Hindi movies channels in HSM (U+R), HSM (U) and HSM (R). Hindi feature films Bahubali The Beginning and KGF Chapter 1 were in BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Hindi Movies programmes on average rating across all original airings in the week in HSM (U+R), HSM (R) and HSM (U).

    Viacom18’s flagship Hindi GEC Colors dropped a place to tenth rank in week 24 of 2019 with 521.025 million weekly impressions as compared to ninth rank and 536.369 million weekly impressions in week 23. Colors was ranked sixth in BARC’s weekly lists of top 10 Hindi GECs in HSM (U+R) and HSM (R) and was ranked fourth in HSM (U).

    BENGALURU: The Sun TV Network’s flagship Tamil GEC Sun TV was ranked one in Broadcast Audience Research Council of India’s (BARC) weekly list of top 10 channels across genres in week 23 of 2019 (Saturday, 1 June 2019 to Friday, 7 June 2019, week under review). Enterr 10 TV’s Hindi GEC Dangal, the normal occupier of first place in non-IPL week’s after the implementation of TRAI’s new tariff order climbed down to second place during the week under review.

    And now that ICC’s World Cup 2019 cricketing tourney is on, Star India’s Hindi Sports channel – Star Sports 1 Hindi re-entered BARC’s weekly across genres list at third rank in week 23 of 2019. Consequently, a number of channels dropped a rank in week 23 of 2019 as compared to their ranks in the previous week. Sony Pictures Network India (SPN) Hindi movies channel Sony Max also re-entered BARC’s across genres list on the back of SS Rajamouli’s Bahubali The Conclusion and old faithful Sooryavansham among other movies at tenth rank.

    Six Hindi GECs, and one channel each from the Hindi movies, sports, Tamil and Telugu channels comprised BRAC’s weekly list of top 10 channels across genres in week 23 of 2019. From the network’s perspective, there were three channels from the Star India fold, two channels each from SPN and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (Zeel) and one channel each from Enterr 10 TV, Sun TV Network and Viacom18 in the list.

    As mentioned above, Sun TV was ranked one in week 23 of 2019 with 811.795 million weekly impressions as compared to second rank and 765.397 million weekly impressions in week 22. Sun TV also headed BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Tamil channels in the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry markets and four of the top 5 Tamil programmes in this market based on average rating across all original airings in the week were aired on Sun TV.

    Dangal TV at second rank in week 23 of 2019 garnered 805.510 million weekly impressions as compared to first rank and 884.884 million weekly impressions in week 22. Dangal also headed BARC’s weekly lists of top 10 Hindi GECs in the combined urban and rural Hindi speaking market -HSM (U+R) and HSM (R).  Dangal was ranked seventh in HSM (U). An Indian mythology programmes– Mahima Shanidev Ki and a family drama Baba Aiso Var Dhundo on Dangal were in BARC’s list of  Top 5 Hindi GEC programmes based on average rating across all original airings in the week in HSM (R).

    Star Sports 1 Hindi entered BARC’s weekly list of top 10 channels across genres in week 23 of 2019 with 784.016 million weekly impressions at third rank. The channel was also ranked first in BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Sports channels during the week under review. Further, four of the top 5 sports programmes on average rating across all original airings in the week were aired on Star Sports 1 Hindi.

    Dropping a place to fourth rank in week 23 of 2019 was Zeel’s Hindi GEC Big Magic with 695.790 million weekly impressions as compared to third rank and 732.325 million weekly impressions in the previous week. Big Magic was ranked second in BARC’s weekly lists of top 10 Hindi GECs in HSM (U+R) and HSM (R). Big Magic was ranked eighth in BARC’s weekly list of top 10 Hindi GECs in HSM (U). The Indian mythology drama Parmavtar Shree Krishna aired on Big Magic was present in BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Hindi GEC programmes based on average rating across all original airings in the week in HSM (R).

    Star India’s flagship Telugu GEC Star Maa also dropped a rank to fifth place in week 23 of 2019 with 653.203 million weekly impressions as compared to fourth rank and 643.989 million weekly impressions in week 22. Star Maa was also ranked first in BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Telugu GECs in the Andhra Pradesh/Telangana markets and four of the five programmes in BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Telugu programmes based on average rating across all original airings in the week in these markets were aired on Star Maa.

    Dropping down a place to sixth rank was Star India’s flagship Hindi GEC Star Plus with 626.032 million weekly impressions as compared to fifth rank and 641.814 million weekly impressions in week 22. Star Plus was also ranked third, fourth and first in BARC’s weekly list of top 10 Hindi GECs in HSM (U+R), HSM (R) and HSM (U) respectively. The reboot of  Balaji Telefilm’s  Indian soap opera Kasauti Zindagi Kay on Star Plus was amongst BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Hindi GEC programmes on average rating across all original airings in the week in HSM (U).

    Zeel’s flagship Hindi GEC Zee TV also dropped a place to seventh rank with 612.470 million weekly impressions as compared to sixth rank and 628.588 million weekly impressions in week 22. Zee TV was ranked fourth in HSM (U+R), fifth in HSM (U) and was ranked third in HSM (R). The Balaji Telefilms-produced Kumkum Bhagya its spinoff Kundali Bhagya aired on Zee TV were among the top 5 Hindi GEC programmes based on average rating across all original airings in the week in HSM (U+R), HSM (R) and HSM (U). Another programme on Zee TV -Tujhse Hai Raabta was also in BARC’s weekly list of the top 5 Hindi GEC programmes based on average rating across all original airings in the week in HSM (U+R).

    SPN’s Hindi GEC Sony SAB retained its previous week’s eighth rank in week 23 of 2019 with 541.665 million weekly impressions as compared to 535.117 million weekly impressions in week 22. Sony SAB was ranked fifth in BARC’s weekly lists of top 10 Hindi GECs in HSM (U+R) and HSM (R) and was ranked fourth in HSM (U).

    Viacom18’s flagship Hindi GEC Colors dropped two ranks to ninth place in week 23 of 2019 with 536.639 million weekly impressions and seventh rank and 612.337 million weekly impressions in week 22. Colors was ranked sixth in BARC’s weekly lists of top 10 Hindi GECs in HSM (U+R) and HSM (R) and was ranked third in HSM (U).

    As mentioned above, SPN’s Hindi movies channel Sony Max entered BARC’s weekly list of top 10 channels across genres in week 23 of 2019 with 526.994 million weekly impressions. Sony Max was ranked second in BARC’s weekly lists of top 5 Hindi Movies channels in HSM (U+R) and HSM (U) and was ranked first in HSM (R). Three movies on the channel – Bahubali 2 The Conclusion, Sooryavansham and Nela Ticket were among BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Hindi Movies programmes in HSM (U+R) and HSM (R), while Bahubali 2 The Conclusion and Sooryavansham were in the top 5 Hindi movies channels list in HSM (U).

    BENGALURU: Subshash Chandra’s Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (Zeel) Hindi GECs Zee Anmol and Zee TV were ranked second and third in Broadcast Audience Research Council of India weekly list of top 10 Hindi channels across genres: All India (U+R) : 2+ Individuals in week 36 of 2018 (Saturday, 1 September 2018 to Friday, 7 September 2018). At its normal first rank was the Sun TV Network’s flagship Tamil GEC Sun TV. 

    In terms of ranks and networks, channels from four networks followed a simple arithmetic progression in consecutive order. One rank, rank one was held by a Sun TV Network channel; two ranks, ranks two and three, were held by Zeel Networks channels. Three ranks, ranks four, five and six, were held by Star India channels and; four ranks, ranks seven to ten, were held by Sony Pictures Network India (SPN) channels in week 36 of 2018. From the languages perspective, there was one Tamil GEC, two Hindi movies and seven Hindi GEC channels present in BARC’s across genres list in week 36 of 2018. Consequently, two Zeel Hindi GEC channels – free to air (FTA) Zee Anmol and flagship Zee TV ruled Hindi channels in week 36 of 2018 in BARC’s across genres list.

    As mentioned above, at its normal first rank in week 36 was the Tamil GEC Sun TV with 1063.806 million weekly impressions as compared to 999.006 million weekly impressions in week 35 of 2018. Sun TV also led BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Tamil channels in the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry market and all of the 5 programmes in BARC’s list of top 5 Tamil programmes during primetime in these markets based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week under review were aired on Sun TV.

    Two Zeel channels

    Reclaiming its second rank in week 36 of 2018 was Zee Anmol with 840.010 million weekly impressions as compared to 701.762 million weekly impressions in week 35. Zee Anmol was also ranked first in BARC’s weekly list of top 10 Hindi GECs in HSM (U+R) and HSM (R). The Balaji Telefilms produced soap Kumkum Bhagya aired on Zee Anmol was ranked second in BARC’s list of top 5 Hindi GEC programmes during primetime based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week in HSM (U+R) and was ranked first in HSM (R). Another soap from the channel, Mahek, was ranked third in HSM (R).

    Bounding up six ranks to third place was Zee TV with 721.364 million weekly impressions as compared to 620.187 million weekly impressions in week 35. Two programmes that were aired on Zee TV- Kumkum Bhagya, and its spinoff Kundali Bhagya were at third and fourth ranks in BARC’s list of top 5 Hindi GEC programmes during primetime based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week in HSM (U+R) and HSM (U).

    Three Star India channels

    Climbing up four ranks to fourth place was Star India’s FTA Hindi GEC Star Utsav in week 36 of 2018 with 669.262 million weekly impressions as compared to 629.138 million weekly impressions in week 35. Star Utsav was ranked third in BARC’s list of top 10 Hindi GECs’ in HSM (U+R), second in HSM (R) and was ranked seventh in HSM (U). The soap Rabba Ve aired on Star Utsav was ranked fourth in BARC’s weekly in BARC’s list of top 5 Hindi GEC programmes during primetime  based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week in HSM (R).

    Another Star India FTA Hindi GEC, Star Bharat, also jumped up two ranks to fifth place in week 36 of 2018 with 652.973 million weekly impressions as compared to seventh rank and 632.025 million weekly impressions in week 35. Star Bharat was ranked fourth in BARC’s list of top 10 Hindi channels in HSM (U+R), sixth in HSM (R) and HSM (U) in BARC’s weekly list of top 10 Hindi GEC channels during the week under review.

    Star India’s flagship Hindi GEC, Star Plus dropped down two ranks in week 36 of 2018 to sixth place with 650.318 million impressions as compared to 687.926 million weekly impressions in the previous week. Star Plus was ranked fifth in BARC’s weekly lists of top 10 Hindi GECs in HSM (U+R) and was ranked second in HSM (U) and tenth in HSM (R). Director’s Kut Productions produced Hindi soap Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai aired on Star Plus was ranked fifth in BARC’s list of top 5 Hindi GEC programmes during primetime  based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week in HSM (U+R) and was ranked second in HSM (U).

    Four SPN channels

    SPN’s Hindi movies channel, Sony Max, dropped down five ranks to seventh place in week 36 of 2018 with 630.227 million weekly impressions as compared to 721.447 million weekly impressions in week 35. Sony Max was also ranked second in HSM (U+R), first in HSM (U) and was ranked fifth in HSM (R). The Hindi version of SS Rajamouli’s film Bahubali the Beginning was ranked first among BARC’s list of the top 5 Hindi movies programmes during primetime based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week in HSM (U+R). Further, three Hindi feature films HFF – Bahubali the Beginning, 3 Idiots and Bhairava, on Sony Max were also among BARC’s list of top 5 Hindi movies programmes during primetime list in HSM (U).

    SPN’s women focused Hindi GEC Sony Pal re-entered BARC’s across genres weekly list in week 36 of 2017 with 626.815 million weekly impressions. The channel was ranked fifth in BARC’s list of top 10 Hindi GEC channels in HSM (U+R), third in HSM (R) and eighth in HSM (U). The long running sitcom Tarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah on Sony Pal was ranked second among BARC’s list of the top 5 Hindi movies programmes during primetime based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week in HSM R).

    Big Synergy Productions’ Amitabh Bahchan anchored Indian version of Who Will become A Millonaire – Kaun Banega Crorepati or KBC is on air on SPN’s flagship Hindi GEC pay channel Sony Entertainment Television (SET). SET entered BARC’s weekly across genres list for the first time in 2018 in week 36 with 625.080 million weekly impressions. SET was ranked seventh in BARC’s weekly list of top 10 Hindi GEC channels in HSM (U+R), and first in HSM (U).

    At tenth rank was another SPN Hindi movies channel, Sony Wah with 623.522 million weekly impressions as compared to 669.499 million weekly impressions in week 35. Sony Wah was ranked first in BARC’s list of top 5 Hindi movies channels in HSM (U+R) and HSM (R). HFFs’ The Return of Rebel and Yevadu that featured on Sony Wah were among the top 5 most watched Hindi movies programmes during primetime based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) for the week in BARC’s list in HSM (U+R) One more HFF- Dangerous Khiladi 4 on Sony Wah was also on BARC’s list of top 5 Hindi movies programmes during primetime in HSM (R).

    BENGALURU: Sony Pictures Network India (SPN) Hindi Movies channel Sony Max was ranked second in Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) weekly list of top 10 channels across genres in week 29 of 2018 (Saturday, 14 July 2018 to Friday, 20 July 2018, week udder review). Like during week 28, when it pipped Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited free to air (FTA) Hindi GEC Zee Anmol to second spot, Sony Max was the most watched Hindi channel during the week under review. The channel was also the most watched channel in BARC’s list of top 5 Hindi Movies channels in the combined urban and rural Hindi speaking market – HSM (U+R), as well is in HSM (U). In HSM (R) Sony Max was ranked fifth in the Hindi Movies genre.

    As is normal, the Sun TV Network’s flagship Tamil GEC Sun TV was ranked first in BARC’s weekly across genres lists in week 29 of 2018. The channel continued for to draw billion plus weekly impressions for the second week in a row.

    Six Hindi GEC, two Hindi Movies and one channel each form the Tamil GEC and Telugu GEC genres made up BARC’s list of top 10 channels across genres during week 29 of 2018. From the networks perspective, three channels each from SPN and Star India, two channels from Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (Zeel) and one channel each from the Sun TV Network Limited and Viacom 18 made up BARC’s across genres list for week 29 of 2018.

    Sun TV led the across the genres list in week 29 with 1,071.451 million weekly impressions as compared to 1051.589 million weekly impressions in week 28 of 2018. Sun TV also led BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Tamil channels in the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry market and all the 5 programmes in BARC’s list of top 5 Tamil programmes during primetime in these markets based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week under review were aired on Sun TV.

    At second rank was Sony Max with 746.904 million weekly impressions in week 29 as compared to 669.742 million weekly impressions in week 28 of 2018. Two Hindi feature films (HFF) that featured on Sony Max – Kanchana 3 and Sarrainodu were among the top 5 most watched Hindi Movies programmes during primetime based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week in HSM (U+R) and HSM (U). Another HFF-Bhairava was also among the top 5 Hindi Movies programmes during primetime in HSM (U).

    Retaining third place in week 29 was Zeel’s FTA Hindi GEC Zee Anmol with 717.589 million weekly impressions as compared to 653.296 million weekly impressions in week 28 of 2018. Zee Anmol was also ranked first in BARC’s weekly list of top 10 Hindi GECs’ in the combined urban and rural Hindi speaking markets or HSM (U+R) as also in HSM (R). The Balaji Telefilms produced soap Kumkum Bhagya aired on Zee Anmol was ranked  fourth in BARC’s list of top 5 Hindi GEC programmes during primetime based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week in HSM (U+R) and was ranked first in HSM (R). Another soap from the channel, Mahek, was ranked third in HSM (R).

    Climbing up a rank to fourth place in week 29 of 2018 was Star India’s flagship Telugu GEC Star Maa with 673.849 million weekly impressions as compared to 572.455 million weekly impressions in week 28 of 2018. Star Maa was ranked first in BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Telugu channels in the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana market. Three programmes that were aired on Star Maa were present in BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Telugu programmes during primetime based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week.

    Moving down one rank to fifth place was Zeel’s flagship Hindi GEC Zee TV with 649.355 million weekly impressions in week 29 of 2018 as compared to 614.840 weekly impressions in week 28. Zee TV was ranked second in BARC’s weekly list of top 10 Hindi GECs’ in HSM (U+R), third in HSM (U) and seventh in HSM (R) during the week. Two programmes that were aired on Zee TV- Kundali Bhagya, a spinoff of Kumkum Bhagya, was ranked second, Kumkum Bhagya was ranked third in HSM (U+R) in BARC’s list of top 5 programmes during primetime based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week. Kundali Bhagya was also ranked fifth in HSM (R) in BARC’s lists of top 5 Hindi GEC programmes during primetime based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week. In the HSM (U) market, Kundali Bhagya, Kumkum Bhagya and another soap Ishq Subhan Allah on Zee TV were ranked second, third and fifth respectively during the week under consideration

    Also retaining its previous week’s sixth place with 636.700 million weekly impressions in week 29 of 2018 as compared to 561.361 million weekly impressions in week 28 was Viacom18’s flagship Hindi GEC Colors. Colors was ranked third in BARC’s weekly list of top 10 Hindi GECs’ in HSM (U+R) and was ranked first in HSM (U). Naagin 3  found the top place in BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Hindi GEC programmes during primetime based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week in HSM (U+R) and HSM (U), while Naagin 3 was ranked fourth in HSM (R).

    Star India’s FTA Hindi GEC Star Bharat also climbed up a rank to seventh place with 598.615 million weekly impressions in week 29 of 2018 as compared to 548.708 million weekly impressions in week 28. Star Bharat was ranked fourth in BARC’s list of top 10 Hindi channels in HSM (U+R) was ranked fifth in HSM (R) and was ranked sixth in HSM (U) in BARC’s weekly list of top 10 Hindi GEC channels during the week under review.

    Re-entering BARC’s weekly list of top 10 channels across genres in week 29 of 2018 at eighth rank was another Star India FTA channel – Star Utsav with 597.617 million weekly impressions. Star Utsav was ranked sixth in BARC’s list of top 10 Hindi GECs’ in HSM (U+R), was ranked second in HSM (R) and was ranked eighth in HSM (U).

    Dropping down two ranks to ninth place in week 29 of 2018 was SPN’s women focused Hindi GEC Sony Pal with 590.263 million weekly impressions as compared to 555.366 million weekly impressions in week 28 of 2018. Sony Pal was ranked fifth in BARC’s weekly list of top 10 Hindi channels in HSM (U+R), was ranked third in HSM (R) and was ranked seventh in HSM (U). The sitcom Tarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah aired on Sony Pal was ranked second in BARC’s list of top 5 Hindi GEC programmes during primetime based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week in HSM (R).

    At its previous week’s tenth rank was another SPN Hindi Movies channel Sony Wah with 584.938 million weekly impressions in week 29 as compared to 518.879 million weekly impressions in week 28 of 2018. Sony Wah was ranked second in BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Hindi Movies channels in HSM (U+R), first in HSM (R) and fifth in HSM (U) during week 29 of 2018.     BENGALURU: Sony Pictures Network India (SPN) Hindi movies channel Sony Max was ranked second in Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) weekly list of top 10 channels across genres (across genres list) for week 28 of 2018 (Saturday, 7 July 2018 to Friday, 13 July 2018, week or period under review). There were eight other Hindi channels in the across genres list in week 28 of 2018. This made Sony Max the most watched Hindi channel in BARC’s during the period under review. The channel was also the most watched channel in BARC’s list of top five Hindi movies channels in the combined urban and rural Hindi speaking market – HSM (U+R), as well as in HSM (U). In HSM (R) Sony Max was ranked fifth.

    At its normal first rank (except during IPL and a couple of weeks when Zee Anmol got ahead) was the Sun TV Network’s flagship Tamil GEC Sun TV, which returned to the billion pus weekly impressions after a long hiatus from that threshold number.

    Six Hindi GEC, two Hindi movies and one Tamil GEC and Telugu GEC made up BARC’s list of top 10 channels across genres during week 28 of 2018. From the networks perspective, three channels each from SPN and Star India, two channels from Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (Zeel) and one channel each from the Sun TV Network Limited and Viacom 18 made up BARC’s across genres list for week 28 of 2018.

    As mentioned above, Sun TV led the across genres list in week 28 with 1051.589 million weekly impressions as compared to 947.652 million weekly impressions in week 27 of 2018. Sun TV also led BARC’s weekly list of top five Tamil channels in the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry market and all the five programmes in BARC’s list of top five Tamil programmes during primetime in these markets based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week under review were aired on Sun TV.

    At second rank was Sony Max with 669.742 million weekly impressions in week 28 of 2018 as compared to fourth rank and 626.781 million weekly impressions. Two Hindi feature films (HFF) that featured on Sony Max – Bahubali 2 – The Conclusion and the world television premiere of HFF Mummy were among the top five most watched Hindi movies programmes during primetime based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week in HSM (U+R) and HSM (R). The concluding part of S S Rajamouli’s magnum opus was also among the five most watched Hindi movies programmes during primetime in HSM (R) during the week under review.

    Moving down a rank to third place in week 28 was Zeel’s FTA Hindi GEC Zee Anmol with 653.296 million weekly impressions as compared to 700.502 million weekly impressions in week 27 of 2018. Zee Anmol was also ranked first in BARC’s weekly list of top 10 Hindi GECs in the combined urban and rural Hindi speaking markets or HSM (U+R) as also in HSM (R). The Balaji Telefilms-produced soap Kumkum Bhagya aired on Zee Anmol was ranked fourth in BARC’s list of top five Hindi GEC programmes during primetime based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week in HSM (U+R) and was ranked first in HSM (R). Kundali Bhagya was also ranked fifth in HSM (R) in BARC’s lists of top five Hindi GEC programmes during primetime based on average rating across all airings (original and repeat) in the week. In the HSM (U) market, Kundali Bhagya, Kumkum Bhagya and another soap Ishq Subhan Allah on Zee TV were ranked third, fourth and fifth respectively during the week under consideration.

    BENGALURU: After a hiatus of a week, Sony Pictures Network India (SPN) Hindi Movies channel Sony Max returned to Broadcast Audience Research Council’s (BARC) list of the top-10 channels across genre (All India [U+R] : 2+ Individuals). Six Hindi GEC channels, two Telugu GEC channels and one each of Hindi Movies and Tamil GEC channels made up the top-10 across genre list for week 4 of 2018 (Saturday, 20 January 2018 to Friday, 26 January 2018). From the network’s perspective, the top-10 channels across genre were three Star India Pvt Ltd (Star India) channels, two channels each from the Sun Network Ltd, SPN and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (Zeel) and one channel from Network 18. Four of the channels in the list were free-to-air (FTA).

    The Sun Network’s flagship Tamil GEC Sun TV held onto to its first rank in the list in week 4 of 2018 with 1,047.704 million weekly impressions. Sun TV was also the most watched Tamil channel in the Tamil Nadu/Puducherry markets according to BARC’s weekly list of top-five Tamil channels during the week under review. All the top-five Tamil programmes during prime time were from Sun TV.

    Zeel’s FTA channel Zee Anmol also retained its second rank with 722.702 million weekly impressions. Zee Anmol was also the most watched Hindi GEC in the Hindi Speaking Urban + Rural (HSM (U+R) and HSM rural [HSM (R)] markets. The Balaji Telefilms produced family drama series Kumkum Bhagya and the Grazing Goat Pictures-produced soap Jamai Raja were among the top five most watched Hindi GEC programmes during primetime in HSM (U+R) and HSM (R). These programmes were aired on Zee Anmol.

    Star India’s FTA Hindi GEC Star Bharat also retained its previous week’s third rank in week 4 of 2018 with 697.485 million weekly impressions. The Qissago Telefilms-produced serial Nimki Mukhiya was among BARC’s five most watched Hindi GEC programmes in the HSM (U+R) markets during primetime.

    Sony Max was ranked fourth in week 4 of 2018 with 639.675 million weekly impressions. The channel also topped BARC’s top five Hindi Movies channels weekly list in HSM (U+R) and HSM (U). The sequel of SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus – Bahubali 2: The Conclusion was among the five most watched movies in HSM (U+R), HSM (U) and HSM (R). Hindi feature film (HFF) Sooryavansham, that was aired on the channel in week 4 was amongst the five most watched programmes in HSM (U+R) and HSM (U). Another HFF that was aired on the channel, Bhairava, was also among the top-five Hindi movies in HSM (U).

    Zeel’s flagship Hindi GEC Zee TV was ranked sixth in week 4 of 2018 with 595.585 million weekly impressions. Kumkum Bhagya and its spinoff Kundali Bhagya that were aired on Zee TV were BARC’s top two Hindi GEC programmes during primetime in HSM (U+R) and HSM (U).

    Network18’s (or Viacom18 if you may) flagship Hindi GEC Colors was ranked seventh in week 4 of 2018 with 583.116 million weekly impressions. Colors was the most watched Hindi GEC channel in the week in HSM (U). The Rashmi Sharma Telefilms-produced story of a transgender, Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki, was among the top five Hindi GEC programmes during primetime in HSM (U).

    Another Star India FTA Hindi GEC, Star Utsav, was ranked eighth in week 4 of 2018 with 569.417 million weekly impressions. Star India’s Telugu GEC Star Maa was ranked ninth during the week under review with 532.247 million weekly impressions. The channel was the most watched Telugu GEC in the AP/ Telangana (U+R): NCCS All : 2+ Individuals market. Two programmes that featured on Star Maa – Kumkuma Puvvu and Koyilamma were among the top five Telugu programmes during primetime.

    The Sun Newtork’s Telugu GEC Gemini TV completed BARC’s list of top-10 channels across genre list in week 4 of 2017 with 522.878 million weekly impressions. Gemini TV was the second most watched Telugu GEC programme in AP/Talengana.
