    Scarlett Johansson to star in DreamWorks’ ‘Ghost in the Shell’

    MUMBAI: Scarlett Johansson has been signed on to star in DreamWorks’ upcoming venture, Ghost in the Shell.

     

    The actress, who received accolades for her action lead in Lucy, will feature in the anime-based, live-action thriller directed by Rupert Sanders and written by Bill Wheeler.

     

    Produced by Ari Arad and Steven Paul, Ghost in the Shell is based on the Japanese comic book of the same name. The plot is about the exploits of a member of a covert ops unit of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission that specializes in fighting technology-related crime.

     

    Former DreamWorks executive Mark Sourian, will executive produce the movie, for which Johansson had reportedly, received an offer of US $10 million.

     

    Johansson’s upcoming film includes Avengers: Age of Ultron where she plays the Black Widow.

    Warner Bros gets Rupert Sanders to helm Napoleon

    MUMBAI: Warner Bros has signed Rupert Sanders to direct Napoleon, a Scarface-style look at the French leader that will be produced by Gianni Nunari. Jeremy Doner is the scribe and Niija Kuykendall will oversee for the studio.

     

    This comes a day after the studio tapped Joe Wright to direct Pan. Sanders made his feature directing debut on Universal’s Snow White And The Huntsman, which grossed near $400 million worldwide. He’s got 90 Church with that studio and producer Joe Roth, and he’s developing Juliet for Sony and New Regency, with Charles Roven producing, as well as the screen adaptation of the Frederick Forsyth thriller The Kill List for producers Steve Schwartz, Paula Mae Schwartz and Nick Wechsler.

    MUMBAI: Universal has set George Mastras to adapt the Dean Unkefer book ’90 Church: the true story of the narcotics squad from hell’ who has won an Emmy for Breaking Bad. Rupert Sanders will be helming the project. +

     

    Three people will be producing it: Joe Roth, Palak Patel and Deborah Giarratana. The name ’90 Church’ refers to the place of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics in New York, when it was formed to tackle the increasing organised crime and drug traffic in the 1960s and 1970s. FBI agents used cunning tactics to stop the increasing numbers. The reputation of ’90 Church’ grew with the body count as well.

     

    The book was a fiction story but was written by an agent himself who worked in the department. Mastras is repped by CAA and manager Dan Halsted.

    MUMBAI: Finally after piecing his life back together in the wake of his cheating scandal with Kristen Stewart, the 41-year-old director Rupert Sanders has landed his first project.
    He has been tapped to direct Sony Pictures and New Regency‘s The Juliet, a futuristic romance based on a story by sci-fi novelist Alfred Bester. The story is being billed as Bonnie and Clyde in space, according to sources.
    Despite the scandal, Sanders had been in high demand in Hollywood with Universal reportedly circling him for the Snow White and the Huntsman sequel.
    Things have been less rosy on the home front. His model wife Liberty Ross has remained separated since news of Sanders‘ infidelities broke, and was spotted out in London with her ex boyfriend, art gallery director Chris Taylor.
    The film is expected to start shooting early next year.

    MUMBAI: Feeling dejected following revelations that his ex-girlfriend Kristen Stewart cheated on him with director Rupert Sanders, Robert Pattinson is planning to quit Hollywood.
    “Rob has always had a love-hate relationship with his career. He loves earning millions from acting, but he hates the constant intrusion into his private life,” it has been said.
    “He has more than enough money to live very comfortably for the rest of his life. Quitting Hollywood is something he has talked about. When he found out Kristen had cheated, he opened his eyes – people in showbiz just aren‘t very nice,” said a friend of Pattinson.

    MUMBAI: Universal Studio has reportedly laid-off Kristen Stewart from the sequel of Snow White and the Huntsman.

    Reportdely, the studio Universal has decided to cut out Snow White from the script and focus purely on the Huntsman.

    However, it is yet not clear whether or not Rupert Sanders will direct the film or not though he‘s certainly on the short list.

    The studio is currently exploring options to continue the franchise,” a Universal spokeswoman has been quoted to have said.

    The 22-year old Stewart is planning to get under loads of assignment in order to get over her split from Pattionson whom she dated for three years but it‘s rumoured that she decided to call it quits.

    While she struggles to get back on track, Pattinson, 26, is going from strength-to-strength. He is busy promoting his new film Cosmopolis.

    MUMBAI: Kristen Stewart has edged out Jennifer Lawrence to clinch the lead role in Lie Down in Darkness.
    The 22-year old actress will play Peyton Loftis in the adaptation of William Styron‘s 1951 novel of the same name. The film tells the story of a girl whose mother is jealous of her and father harbours an incestuous feeling towards her, it is understood.
    Scott Cooper who had earlier directed Crazy Heart, will helm the project for producer Jeff Sharp.
    Here, it may be said that Lawrence was initially up for the role but could not commit in the end due to her busy schedule filming sequels to The Hunger Games and X-Men: First Class.
    It is unknown when Lie Down in Darkness is expected to go into production.
    Stewart is currently in the eye of the storm after it was revealed that she cheated on boyfriend Robert Pattinson with Rupert Sanders, the married director of her last project Snow White and the Huntsman.

    MUMBAI: Posting a fall of a modest 31 per cent from its opening foreign launch, DreamWorks Animation‘s Madagascar 3: Europe‘s Most Wanted stood at the No. 1 offshore box office spot for the second consecutive weekend with $53 million drawn from 10,957 locations in 43 markets. That puts the overseas gross total of the sequel in the animation franchise at $157 million.
     
    The film opened in 15 mostly medium-sized territories, taking the top spot in each. But it was the holdover territories that provided most of the box office impetus. Russia recorded $9.2 million, in France, the film collected $6.2 million while in Mexico, the film collected a modest $5.2 million.
     
    Director Adam Shankman‘s Warner Bros.-distributed film Rock of Ages played at 1,850 screens in 10 territories and drew $4.1 million with a UK debut garnering $1.6 million from 471 sites. That‘s My Boy, Adam Sandler‘s latest R-rated comedy premiered on 223 screens in Australia for $1.4 million.

    Taking the No. 1 weekend spot in Japan and the No. 2 berth overall was Universal‘s Snow White and the Huntsman that grossed $31.2 million from as many as 6,768 locations in 57 territories. In Japan, the film generated $4.7 million from 335 locations taking a 45 per cent market share while in France, the film drew $5.1 million from 610 situations for a 27 per cent market share.
     
    In Russia, Rupert Sanders‘ period action fantasy drew $6.1 million from 721 spots. The film has grossed a total of $124.6 million so far overseas with openings in Australia, New Zealand and Chile due this week.
     
    The weekend‘s No. 3 spot was occupied by Prometheus which registered No. 2 openings in Latin, Central and South America from Mexico to Argentina. In Mexico the collection was $3.2 million from 1,280 spots while in Brazil, it collected $3 million from 508 sites.

    MUMBAI: After the original collected $55 million at the US box in the opening weekend, a sequel of Snow white and the Huntsman has been announced.

    Kristen and Chris will return in the sequel although it is unclear if there will be a role for Charlize Theron‘s evil queen, it has been reported.

    David Koepp has been commissioned to write the new script, which will pick up after the events of the first movie.

    It is also not clear whether Rupert Sanders, who has directed part one, will wield the megaphone for the part two of the film.
