    Disney+ Hotstar Premium adds kids animated show Mira, Royal Detective

    MUMBAI: Disney+ Hotstar Premium has added a brand new title to its expansive kids catalogue: Mira, Royal Detective. The story revolves around Mira, a brave and resourceful girl who is appointed as royal detective by the queen. Together with her friend Prince Neel, a talented inventor, Priya, her creative cousin, and comical mongoose sidekicks Mikku and Chikku, they set out on mystery-solving adventures that highlight and encourage deductive reasoning for young viewers and encourage them to think creatively. The show promises to engage younger viewers in the vibrant culture and heritage of India through endless hours of foot-tapping music and fun dance sequences.

    Freida Pinto along with popular South Asian artistes Leela Ladnier, Kal Penn, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Hannah Simone, Jameela Jamil, Aparna Nancherla, Aasif Mandvi, Karan Soni, Maulik Pancholy, Sarayu Blue and Sarita Choudhury were handpicked as voice artistes for the show. Mira, Royal Detective will be available on Disney+ Hotstar Premium starting 24 May 2020.

    Freida Pinto, who has voiced the character of Queen Shanti, said, “There will be many things you recognize if you are from India. Right from the care, attention and detail taken to focus on costume, food, conversation about food and words that are being used. At the end of the day, this is an international show, but the creators of the show have been so mindful as to not isolate those watching it in India who are growing up in this culture. So, it feels like there is a convergence of international appeal and the Indian story.”

    She further added, “I think Queen Shanti and I have this one thing in common. We both like to lead, and I think while I was voicing the character of Queen Shanti, I did embody those leadership qualities. So, I feel the thing that I learned from her is to lead with grace and to come from a place of kindness”

    Kal Penn is excited for the kids to watch the show, “I hope that what kids learn the most from Mira, Royal Detective are these incredible inquisitive skills, these characters that are confident. I mean, Mira is incredibly confident and capable and what an incredible message that sends to young girls obviously but also to young boys who will watch the show and be inspired by her”

    As lockdown 4.0 continues, Disney+ Hotstar Premium has an exciting line-up of kids’ content to keep little ones engaged; including popular characters like Doraemon, Shin Chan with movies like The Lion King and Frozen II that help children escape into a world of imagination; Aladdin and Alice in Wonderful that are full of adventure and stories of Winnie The Pooh that teach valuable life lessons based on the importance of friendship. With an inbuilt kids-safe mode, parents will now be able to navigate through age-appropriate content.

    MUMBAI: Disney Junior's animated series Mira, Royal Detective will premiere in the U.S. on  20 March (11:00 a.m. EDT/PDT on Disney Channel and 7:00 p.m. EDT/PDT on Disney Junior). Disney Channel India will also be premiering a sneak-peek that same day, followed by the series premiere on Sunday, March 22. Set in the magical Indian-inspired land of Jalpur, the series introduces a brave and resourceful girl named Mira, a commoner who is appointed to the role of royal detective by the queen. Following its premiere in the U.S. and India, the series will roll out worldwide in an estimated 160 countries on Disney Channel and Disney Junior platforms globally.

    "Mira, Royal Detective," which has already been ordered for a second season, stars Freida Pinto, Kal Penn, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Hannah Simone, Jameela Jamil, Aparna Nancherla, Aasif Mandvi, Karan Soni, Maulik Pancholy, Sarayu Blue and Sarita Choudhury. Newcomer Leela Ladnier stars as the voice of Mira, alongside additional cast members Roshni Edwards, Kamran Lucas, Karan Brar, Parvesh Cheena and Sonal Shah.

    Joining the previously announced cast in recurring and guest star roles are Kunal Nayyar ("The Big Bang Theory"), Danny Pudi (Disney's "DuckTales"), Iqbal Theba ("Glee"), Sunita Mani ("GLOW"), Karen David ("Fear the Walking Dead"), Rizwan Manji ("Perfect Harmony"), Hari Kondabolu ("Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell"), Nardeep Khurmi ("Jane the Virgin"), Aarti Sequeira ("The Next Food Network Star"), Avantika Vandanapu (Disney+ Original Series "Diary of a Future President"), Julian Zane (Disney's "Doc McStuffins"), Brian George ("The Big Bang Theory"), Sakina Jaffrey ("House of Cards") and Madhur Jaffrey ("I Feel Bad").

    Created for kids age 2-7 and their families, "Mira, Royal Detective" centers on Mira, who, along with her friend Prince Neel, creative cousin Priya, and comical mongoose sidekicks Mikku and Chikku, set out on mystery-solving adventures that highlight critical thinking and encourage deductive reasoning for young viewers. Each episode is comprised of two 11-minute stories that celebrate the cultures and customs of India by incorporating authentic food, fashion, language and art. Reflecting their importance in Indian culture, music and dance play an integral role in "Mira, Royal Detective," with each episode featuring at least one original song and dance number that showcases the diversity of the culture.

    A music video featuring a mash-up of the series' main title song and Mira's song, "We're on the Case," will debut Friday, Feb. 21, on DisneyMusicVevo and in the DisneyNOW app. In conjunction with the series premiere on Friday, March 20, Walt Disney Records will release a digital soundtrack with 20 songs from the series, and the DisneyNOW app will debut a hidden object game in which players are invited to help Mira solve mysteries by following a trail of clues in an immersive 3D environment. Additional extensions for the series will continue to roll out later this year.

    In advance of the series premiere, Disney Parks, Experiences & Products will debut a product line by Just Play at the 2020 American International Toy Fair. Featuring dolls, role-play products, figures, playset and more, the line is set to release Fall 2020.

    MUMBAI: Production has begun on "Mira, Royal Detective," an animated mystery-adventure series for preschoolers slated to debut on Disney Junior channels and programming blocks around the world in 2020. Set in the magical Indian-inspired land of Jalpur, the series follows the brave and resourceful Mira, a commoner who is appointed to the role of royal detective after solving a mystery that involves saving the kingdom's young prince. The role of Mira will be voiced by 15-year-old newcomer Leela Ladnier. The announcement was made today by Joe D'Ambrosia, senior vice president, Original Programming, Disney Junior.

    D'Ambrosia said, "We are eager to introduce kids and their families to the rich, diverse cultures and customs of India through Mira, a young girl who looks at things with her own unique lens to gain different perspectives and help others in her community. We hope that she will encourage our audience to actively engage with the inspiring world around them and appreciate the little details that make life extraordinary."

    As royal detective, Mira travels throughout the kingdom helping royals and commoners alike. Along with her friend Prince Neel, a talented inventor, creative cousin Priya, and comical mongoose sidekicks Mikku and Chikku, she will stop at nothing to solve a case, taking young viewers on adventures that highlight critical thinking and encourage deductive reasoning. Rooted in India's vibrant heritage, each episode will weave authentic music, dance and customs into two 11-minutes stories.

    In addition to Ladnier, the "Mira, Royal Detective" voice cast includes Freida Pinto ("The Path") as Queen Shanti; Hannah Simone ("New Girl") as a young commoner named Pinky; Jameela Jamil ("The Good Place") as Mira's Auntie Pushpa; Kal Penn ("Designated Survivor") and Utkarsh Ambudkar ("The Mindy Project") as mongooses Mikku and Chikku, respectively; Aasif Mandvi ("Shut Eye") as Mira's father, Sahil; Sarita Choudhury ("Homeland") as Prince Neel's Great-Aunt Rupa; Aparna Nancherla ("BoJack Horseman") as Mira's cousin Meena; Kamran Lucas (Disney's "Mech-X4") as Prince Neel; Karan Brar (Disney Channel's "BUNK'D") as Prince Veer; Karan Soni ("Deadpool") as twins Ranjeet and Manjeet; Sarayu Blue ("I Feel Bad") as the palace tailor; Parvesh Cheena ("Crazy Ex-Girlfriend") and Sonal Shah ("Scrubs") as bandits, Manish and Poonam, respectively; and newcomer Roshni Edwards as Mira's cousin Priya.

    Emmy® Award-nominated Sascha Paladino ("Miles from Tomorrowland") is executive producer of the series, which was developed by Becca Topol ("Elena of Avalor") who also serves as story editor. Sue Perotto and Dorothea Schoentag (both of "Phineas and Ferb") are supervising director and art director, respectively. IW Group's Shagorika Ghosh is the series' cultural consultant. Additional consultants include Bollywood dancer and choreographer Nakul Dev Mahajan ("So You Think You Can Dance") and music producer Deepak Ramapriyan ("Basmati Blues"). Emmy Award nominees Matthew Tishler ("Fancy Nancy") and Jeannie Lurie ("The Muppets") will write and produce original songs, and Amritha Vaz ("Miss India America") will serve as composer. The series is produced by Wild Canary in association with Disney Junior.
