Sooperfly & Vivek Law ink JV for digital content brand in personal finance

MUMBAI: New media company Sooperfly has joined hands with veteran finance journalist and former India Today Group editor – business television Vivek Law to launch a multi-platform, multi-format brand in the personal finance genre. The new brand will target online Indians across multiple social and digital platforms, who are seeking financial advice and insights.

With an aim to redefine the genre and garner new audiences through friendlier programming, the video-first brand will have a mix of Hindi and English content featuring primarily bite-sized content.

The partnership will be set in motion with content around the impending Union Budget 2016, especially for the young investor.

Talking about the digital debut, Law said, “After a decade each in print and television, I am thrilled to partner with Sooperfly in my foray into digital journalism. I have been passionate about personal finance and financial literacy and I do believe this venture will help reach out to audiences that are increasingly consuming information through digital, instead of conventional platforms.”

MUMBAI: The 120 Media Collective and Sooperfly founder & CEO Roopak Saluja will present a session on “Content is King. Distribution is God!” at Adfest 2016.

Saluja’s session will examine whether the distribution, monetisation, engagement and promotion of content deserves more focus.

“The wisdom of investing not just in content but in platform creation and longer-term audience building is rapidly striking brands the world over. As we navigate the flux, new business models evolve and hybrid organisations emerge, ones that allow for the building of content brands direct-to-audiences,” says Saluja.

“During my session at Adfest, I’d like to take the audience on a journey to help them see how distribution is emerging as the battleground for engagement. The lines have blurred between platforms and screens, bringing creators and audiences closer together than ever before,” he added.

After beginning his career in account management at Young & Rubicam Budapest, Saluja became an entrepreneur in 2006 with the launch of Bang Bang Films. Post that he launched two other subsidiaries – Jack in the Box Worldwide and Sniper, which now form The 120 Media Collective. Most recently, he launched Sooperfly, a new media company that empowers Asia’s digital video ecosystem by building content brands direct-to-audiences.

“Roopak has successfully switched from advertising to entrepreneurialism and is now leading one of India’s fastest growing content production companies. I think delegates at Adfest this year will learn so much from his session about the art of blurring the lines between communications, entertainment and technology,” said Adfest president Jimmy Lam.

Saluja’s session will be held on 17 March. Adfest 2016 will be held from 16 to 19 March at the Royal Cliff Hotels Group in Pattaya, Thailand.

MUMBAI: The 120 Media Collective and Cheil Worldwide have entered into a strategic partnership for multi-platform video content starting July 2015. Its brands Sniper and Sooperfly will produce and distribute a wide range of digital content for Cheil’s clients.

Speaking about the development, The 120 Media Collective founder & chief executive Roopak Saluja said, “Producing content in various formats over the past nine years has armed us with a deep understanding of the audience and what strikes a chord with them. Our brands, Sniper and Sooperfly come together to seamlessly provide what is needed to engage at scale with digital-first audiences in 2015. Cheil’s trust in us is testimony to our expertise.”

Cheil Worldwide South West Asia group president Shiv Sethuraman added, “Video content is the fastest growing area within the digital play. Not just the creation but, equally importantly, the distribution of content. Clients are tired of agencies offering them TVCs disguised as video content and this is because many of them haven’t yet understood that the business model requires significantly different capabilities, resources and platforms. The partnership with The 120 Media Collective is designed to bring speed, economies of scale and quality – yes, all three – to video content. We believe they are the right partners and that the market is ripe for such an offering.”

While Shilpa Ambre has joined as chief financial officer for The 120 Media Collective, Vishal Nongbet has been roped in as Sooperfly senior vice president and business head.

Nongbet, on the other hand, has been entrusted with building the Sooperfly team and business and running day-to-day operations including content, distribution and monetization across APAC.

Additionally, Bang Bang Films senior producer Chahna Rupani has been promoted to Sniper executive producer and will primarily be responsible for driving revenues and growth, while ensuring excellence and efficiencies for both commercials and content production.

“The company has undergone a metamorphosis of sorts over the past three years, from being a combined entity of a production company and a social media agency to one that is pushing the boundaries and blurring the lines between communications, entertainment and technology. As we embark on an ambitious growth plan over the next 36 months, bolstering our leadership team with top talent is essential. Keeping the company adequately funded and observing the highest standards of compliance and governance will be key and having someone of Shilpa’s experience and capability overseeing things is of paramount importance,” said Saluja.

Commenting on Nongbet’s appointment, Saluja said, “Our goal with Sooperfly is clearly to capitalize on all that we’ve built up over the past eight plus years- chief among which are our ability to create compelling content and our credibility with brands- to give ourselves a competitive advantage in the digital video space. “While the last two decades have been all about the democratisation of content, there has never been a better time than now for advertisers to engage their audiences via owned rather than paid or earned media. Sooperfly will be looking at harnessing the immense talent in the space, building content brands direct to audiences, and finding that sweet spot between content creators and advertisers,” added Nongbet.

  • The 120 Media Collective & Diagonal View to launch digital video platform

The 120 Media Collective & Diagonal View to launch digital video platform

MUMBAI: India based The 120 Media Collective has inked a joint venture with UK’s Diagonal View to form a company called Sooperfly.

The new company in the digital video space will offer video creation, distribution and monetisation for the Asian market.

The partnership is the first of its kind in the rapidly growing digital video space, where two companies have come together to provide talent and publishers with an opportunity to enter the world of video creation, distribution and monetization. The 120 Media Collective will package professional content and substantial audiences to drive premium ad sales and brand integrations.

The company will have a three-pronged approach to empowering the entire digital video ecosystem:

    1. Bringing new and existing talent into the digital ecosystem by breaking down barriers and providing an entire suite of services including development, production, channel management and audience building. The content will range from the self-promotional for individual talent to premium content that can fit into emerging subscription platforms.

    2. Tap into large publishers and curate, manage and monetize their existing content.

    3. Sooperfly will also empower and enable brands to turn publishers with the creation of video led properties around the enormous talent pool that exists in the ecosystem today.

Sooperfly aims to forge 200 partnerships during 2015, across individuals, publishers and content collectives, who will co-produce content across a range of genres including lifestyle, beauty, fashion, comedy, sports, education, technology, the performing arts and more.

The network already has on board journalist Vir Sanghvi, celebrity chat show host Tara Sharma and stand-up comic Radhika Vaz, while collectives such as Shalom Films and The Rolling Garaari bring in a variety of topical and serial content.

Initial advertiser partners will be announced later this quarter.

Currently internally funded by the partner entities, the company aims to be amongst the top three in digital video across the APAC region over the next 36 months.

The 120 Media Collective founder and CEO Roopak Saluja said, “Sooperfly is The 120 Media Collective’s digital video distribution arm that gives us the capability to build content brands direct-to-audiences. It capitalizes on the production expertise of Bang Bang Films and Sniper and the digital marketing credibility we’ve built with Jack in the Box Worldwide but most importantly, it leverages our credibility with brands built over nine years.  Diagonal View as the global leader in audience development and channel management is the ultimate partner to join forces with in taking Sooperfly to a position of leadership in empowering digital video across Asia.”

“The market for professional video is global, and through local partners we have had great success throughout the US, Europe and the Middle East. We see huge potential in the Asia Pacific market, and believe this partnership and its unique skill sets will deliver professional video to substantial audiences. Our past success and experience with audience management and IP creation meets a current need gap in the APAC market, whether it’s brands looking at a scientific approach to video, or content creators and publishers looking for better management of their online properties,” added Diagonal View founder Matt Heiman.

  • The 120 Media Collective to redefine commercials, content production with Sniper

The 120 Media Collective to redefine commercials, content production with Sniper

MUMBAI: The 120 Media Collective, a digitally-inclined company founded by media entrepreneur, Roopak Saluja, that creates and distributes content for audiences and brands across multiple platforms, announces today the launch of Sniper, a brand that aims to redefine commercials and content production by providing agile production and effective amplification to meet the rapidly changing needs of today’s marketing paradigm and evolving content models.

The launch of Sniper stems from the need for a new hybrid entity that combines the best of the big-budget, high production values model of Bang Bang Films coupled with the company’s lean and flexible digital content production model that has seen tremendous success over the past 24 months.  Sniper will produce TV commercials, as well as long, short and mid-form content and also see it through to amplification across social platforms and paid digital media, where applicable.

Commenting on the launch, Roopak Saluja, Founder & Chief Executive Officer, The 120 Media Collective, said, “At The 120 Media Collective, we believe staunchly that content is king but also that distribution is god.  Video has become par for the course for brands, advertisers, media and publishers alike. The TV commercial as we’ve known it is no longer the only show in town and with new platforms mushrooming and the evolution of consumption habits, we’re seeing the emergence of a range of video types- long, short and mid form. With multiple pieces of content produced by a brand in a year, the shelf life of each piece of content goes down and consequently the willingness, ability and propensity to spend on each of them decreases.”

“In the old paradigm, once a commercial was produced, it was left to paid media to broadcast.  Now, for optimal results, depending on content type and audience, innovative distribution strategies that integrate earned, shared and paid media must be implemented. Taking all of this into consideration, it’s clear that the production business is ripe for disruption.  We’ve done it before with Bang Bang Films and for the second time in five years, we intend to lead that disruption again.  The onus is on us at The 120 Media Collective, given we’re the only entity in Asia that houses high-end film production capabilities and best-in-class digital marketing resources under the same roof,” added Roopak.

The tagline- “Lean. Agile. Amplified.” clearly highlights the unique offering that Sniper brings to the market.  “Lean” as the evolved needs of brands and publishers demands a lean, efficient and cost-effective approach to production; “Agile” indicates that by bringing together the best of Bang Bang Films with elements of the digital production model, Sniper has the agility to produce both content and commercials, deliverables with a budget range from 30,000 INR to 3 Crore (and beyond) and  “Amplified” refers to the amplification capabilities that come from the fact that this is same company that has dozens of global awards for the success of Kolaveri and several other social media campaigns over the years.
