    India triumphs in historic Bilateral International Deaf Cricket Series against England

    Mumbai: In a thrilling display of skill and determination, the Indian Deaf Cricket Team emerged victorious at the County Ground, Leicester in the bilateral series against England, showcasing their prowess and resilience on the international stage. Indian team was invited & hosted by England & South Wales Cricket Board.

    ECB played the perfect host and the team was delighted to get this unique opportunity to play in five cricket grounds & prove their mettle each time.  The Indian Deaf Cricket Team’s success in the bilateral series against England is a moment of celebration for the entire nation, as it marks another milestone in the journey of Indian cricket. As they continue to inspire and uplift through their achievements, they undoubtedly pave the way for future generations of deaf cricketers to dream big and aim high.

    The series witnessed an intense battle between India and England, with both teams demonstrating exceptional cricketing talent. However, it was the Indian team that dominated throughout, securing a commendable series win by defeating the hosts by six wickets in the seventh and final match of the series.

    Match details:

    Abhishek Singh was awarded the title of ‘Man of the Match’ while Sai Akash was referred to as ‘Man of the Series’. Captain Virender Singh took the maximum wickets.

    Victorinox India welcomes the IDCA team to their Gute Reise store in Aerocity, New Delhi

    Mumbai: Victorinox, maker of the original Swiss army knife, welcomed the India Deaf Cricket Association Team to their Gute Reise Store in the national capital to wish them luck before they proceeded to Sharjah for the World Cup 2024.

    A tour of the store included a stop at the history wall, where all the players were fascinated to discover the 140-year-old legacy of Victorinox, a fourth-generation family-run company. Fun and camaraderie presided over high tea, hearty laughter, and huge smiles.

    Victorinox India chief marketing officer – brand & country head – watch Debraj Sengupta, presented the IDCA Team with personalized Swiss Army Knives to be prepared for any circumstance and outfitted the players with suitcases for their journey.

    The Indian Deaf Cricket team will participate in the Deaf International Cricket Council (DICC) T20 Champions Trophy 2024 to be held in Sharjah (UAE) from 6 to 12 March 2024. Teams from six countries — India, Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka — will compete at Vision Cricket Center, Sharjah, UAE to win the title of world champion.

    Maharashtra Deaf Cricket Team wins IDCA 3rd Test National Cricket Championship for Deaf 2024

    Mumbai: Maharashtra Deaf Cricket Team defeated Madhya Pradesh Deaf Cricket Team, with a lead of 45 runs to win the IDCA 3rd Test National Cricket Championship trophy for Deaf 2024, organised in association with Serum Institute of India (a part of Cyrus Poonawalla Group). The winning team was felicitated by the chief guest in the closing ceremony held at Essex Farms Cricket Club, Chhawla, Delhi on February 17, 2024.

    In the final match played between Maharashtra Deaf Cricket Team and Madhya Pradesh Deaf Cricket team, the former won the toss and decided to bowl.

    IDCA support partners and dignitaries from cricket and the corporate world also graced the event to motivate the players. Their presence reflected the collaborative spirit and commitment to celebrate inclusivity in sports.

    Dedicated to nurturing upcoming sports talent among specially-abled youth, Serum Institute of India (a part of Cyrus Poonawalla Group) collaborated with IDCA as the Principal Partner.     The winning team was presented with the trophy and the winning amount of Rs. 1,00,000, while the runner-up was awarded with a consolation prize of Rs. 50,000. The best individual sportsmen in various categories including, batting, bowling, fielding, and super sixes were also felicitated for their commendable performance.

    The six-day championship kicked off on 12 February 2024, at Essex Farms Cricket Club & Haryana Cricket Academy, Chhawla, New Delhi with a face-off between Jammu & Kashmir and Madhya Pradesh. The event was inaugurated in a glittering ceremony by the chief guest Santosh Kumar Rai, district magistrate South-East, Delhi. Four teams from Kerala, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir participated in this tournament.

    Mumbai: Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA) thirrd Test National Cricket Championship for Deaf 2024, organised in association with Serum Institute of India (a part of Cyrus Poonawalla Group), was formally inaugurated in a glittering ceremony by the chief guest Santosh Kumar Rai, District Magistrate South-East, Delhi.

    The inaugural ceremony was attended by a galaxy of dignitaries from the cricket and corporate world, supporting this IDCA 3rd Test National Cricket Championship for Deaf 2024. Dev Dutt, BCCI certified coach also joined the event.

    Mumbai: The BRICs Chamber of Commerce hosted the BRICS-CCI annual Awards 2024 in New Delhi. The awards presented were for excellence, innovation, responsible business practices, community service & commitment to a sustainable future.

    IDCA was conferred the BRICS CCI Community Excellence Award in this glittering ceremony. The award was received by Patron, Reena Jain Malhotra, CEO, Roma Balwani, Committee Member, Jyoti Jain, Secretary, Ajay Kumar, and Indian Deaf Cricket Association.

    IDCA CEO Roma Balwani said, “It was an honour for IDCA to be given the prestigious B.A.R.A. award for Community Excellence. It underscores the importance of mainstreaming disability sport and IDCA’s endeavour is to provide a platform for talented hearing-impaired Indian cricketers, both men & women to showcase their prowess in the game of cricket. We recently concluded a successful maiden women’s T 10 tournament which was held in early January 2024 which celebrated & signalled the focus on diversity & inclusion.  ”

    Mumbai:  The IDCA 1st T 10 Women’s Deaf Premier League 2024, in association with Serum Institute of India, a part of Cyrus Poonawalla Group, wasformally inaugurated in a glittering ceremony by the Chief Guest, Mr. Bhavin Thakkar, former cricketer, and three-times Ranji Trophy winner.     IDCA honours with the 2023 Mahatma Award for advancing sports inclusivity

    Mumbai: The Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA) has been conferred with the prestigious “Mahatma Award 2023” for their exemplary contribution to promoting inclusivity for differently-abled sportspersons in traditional sports.

    The award was presented to Roma Balwani CEO of IDCA and Ms Reena Jain Malhotra, Patron of IDCA, on the eve of the 154 birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in New Delhi. Team members from the IDCA women’s league were also present at the ceremony.

    Mahatma Awards founder Amit Sachdeva said, “This is indeed a phenomenal initiative for promoting ability in sports. By bringing specially-abled into mainstream sports, such as cricket, we are actually making equality in sports. We all must come together to invest in this to take it forward. Excellent work by the Indian Deaf Cricket Association.”

    IDCA has been breaking down barriers for differently-abled sportspersons by providing a platform for hearing-impaired individuals to showcase their talent in cricket. Formed in 2020, closely works with the ICC to promote cricket amongst deaf cricketers globally. It is engaged in organising matches at the national and international level.

    IDCA CEO Roma Balwani said, “We believe that sports have the power to bring a positive change in the society and unite the people. Our motive is to empower the 26.8 million differently-abled people of the country and instil the belief that nothing is impossible.”

    “We are honoured to be presented with this esteemed award on the occasion of the 154th Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation. The recognition will motivate us to continue with our efforts to promote inclusivity in mainstream sports,” she said.

    The Mahatma Award is conferred to organisations for accomplished and influential social and community initiatives. It acknowledges remarkable contributions in diverse fields such as sustainability, philanthropy, shared value, and corporate social responsibility. Moreover, it recognizes those who use their literary and creative genius to bring social consciousness to the forefront. Founded and instituted by Philanthropist Amit Sachdeva, also known as ‘The CSR Man of India’, the annual award is supported by the Aditya Birla Group and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

    Seventh T-20 Deaf National Cricket Championship in Bhubaneswar on 25 September

    Mumbai: Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA) seventh T-20 National Cricket Championship for Deaf will kick-start on 25 September 2023 in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha. A total of 19 teams will take part in this seven-day-long championship to clinch the national championship trophy.  

    Teams divided into four different groups will play a total of 42 matches with each other before making it to the finals. Hosted by the Odisha Deaf Cricket Association, the matches will be played on four different grounds across Bhubaneswar. The final match will be played on 1 October 2023, at East Coast Railway Sports Association Stadium, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

    IDCA president Sumit Jain said, “In the recent past deaf cricket has gained immense reorganisation in the country. We hope that awareness continues to grow with more specially-abled young people taking up sports as a career option. Sports is not only about physical prowess and skill; it is also a powerful medium for self-expression. Together, we can continue to build a world where everyone has the opportunity to shine.”

    “We are excited for the upcoming hearing-impaired cricket tournament to be held in Odisha and wish luck and success to all the teams participating in it,” he added.

    IDCA CEO Roma Balwani said, “We are delighted to be in Bhubaneswar with a huge presence of 19 teams for the first time, to play 43 matches across four grounds. Our hearing-impaired teams are excited to be here to compete with each other in the true spirit of sport. We are grateful to all our national & local support partners. We are overwhelmed by all the arrangements made by our host organisation, ODCA to welcome the teams. These athletes are looking for due recognition & are pleased to see the awareness IDCA has achieved for deaf cricket in India”.

    The closing ceremony will commence at 3:30 p.m. on October 1, 2023, during which the winning team and players will be felicitated for their exceptional performance. The T-20 champions will receive a prize of Rs 1,00,000, while the runner-up will get Rs 50,000. The best individual sportsmen in categories such as batting, bowling, fielding, super sixes, and others will each receive a sum of Rs 5,000. The players of the match will be awarded Rs 2,100.

    Odisha Deaf Cricket Association (ODCA) Secretary  Sagarkanta Senapati asserted “We are delighted to host IDCA 7th T20 National Cricket Championship for Deaf in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha. We are pleased to welcome teams from (19) teams deaf cricket associations invited by IDCA. Nurturing deaf cricket talent is truly a celebration and we are proud members of IDCA & look forward to this tournament that will create excitement, and goodwill & promote the cause of deaf cricket in the state of Odisha.”

    He added, “We are grateful to Odisha Cricket Association, Youth, Sports Committee, Govt. Of Odisha and all our valuable partners for helping us with their support & motivation to hold this mega tournament across 4 cricket grounds.”

    Mumbai: Cricket is India’s most popular game; nothing can beat the euphoria of watching our players own the game. The men’s and women’s cricket teams swell our chests with pride. Recently released “Ghoomer” is a poignant tale showcasing the achievements of differently abled athletes in the face of adversity. The plot revolves around Anina (Saiyami Kher), a gifted cricket player whose aspirations are shattered by a life-altering event. Regardless of the setback, Anina remains unyielding, and, with the guidance of her coach Paddy (Abhishek Bachchan), she embarks on a journey to make a comeback. The duo collaborates to create a unique bowling technique, Ghoomer, which becomes the cornerstone of Anina’s triumph. The eventful evening witnessed the presence of Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher, who added an extra layer of excitement for the attendees. The renowned star cast joined the Mumbai Deaf Women’s Cricket team for this special occasion, marking a true fusion of inspiration and recognition, and was amazed by the Team’s determined energy.
