    Zee Tamizh launched on Rogers Cable

    MUMBAI: ZEE Americas, the number one South Asian Entertainment Network, in partnership with Ethnic Channels group, the largest distributor of ethnic services in Canada, launched Zee Tamizh on Rogers Cable. The addition of Zee Tamizh makes a total of 10 ZEE channels currently distributed in Canada.

     

    Zee Tamizh is a general entertainment channel that offers a variety of unique programs targeting the Tamil-Canadian audience. Rogers Cable subscribers who enjoy Zee’s top programming can now watch their favorite shows in Tamil throughout the day. Canada has a very large Tamil population, and Zee Tamizh will be of a lot of interest to this vibrant community.

     

    “The Tamil segment is one of the fastest growing South Asian language groups in GTA. It was an obvious step for us to be part of that movement. With a separate Zee pack on Rogers, we will expect excellent results from the Canada market,” said ZEE Americas general manager Sameer Targe.

    Sanjeev Kapoor’s FoodFood forays into Qatar

    MUMBAI: The 24×7 Food and food lifestyle channel, FoodFood, has made an entry into Qatar last week to further increase its reach around the globe. The channel is available through Asia Plus package on the QTEL QATAR Mosaic Platform.

    Earlier this month, the FoodFood channel was launched in Canada by Asian Television Network International (ATN) on Rogers Cable. ATN secured an exclusive programming alliance and licensing agreement with Turmeric Vision and exclusive broadcasting rights to the programming content of the FoodFood channel in Canada.

    In India, FoodFood strengthened its distribution and is now also available on Tata Sky as channel no. 572. The channel is already available on Videocon d2h and Bharati Airtel Digital TV. It is also available in both analogue and digital formats pan India.
    FoodFood has a presence in UAE.

    BVITV inks deal with Rogers Cable for on-demand Disney movies in Canada

    MUMBAI: Buena Vista International Television (BVITV), the international TV distribution division of The Walt Disney Company, has concluded a multi-year video on demand movie rental agreement with Rogers Cable in Canada. For the first time, Rogers Personal TV customers with a digital box will be able to watch Disney live action and animated movies, on Rogers On Demand through their digital set top boxes in Ontario. This is The Walt Disney Company’s first video on demand agreement in Canada.

    With this agreement, Rogers customers will be able to purchase on demand a selection of new release and library features from The Walt Disney Company’s portfolio. Titles include the Disney/Pixar animated comedy-adventure Cars which launches on 22nd December on the service, and the global blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest which will launch in January. New Disney movies will constantly be added as they are available, and a new selection of library titles will be added on a continual basis, informs an official release.

    The agreement was concluded by BVITV’s senior vice president and managing director Canada Orest Olijnyk and Rogers Cable vice-president and general manager David Purdy.

    Olijnyk commented, “We’re delighted to conclude our first VOD agreement in Canada, and to be working with Rogers to bring this wide selection of hit movie content to their customers in flexible, and importantly legitimate and secure, new ways.”

    Weume Infosys bags mobile rights for Fifa World Cup

    MUMBAI: Swiss sports event marketing major Infront Sports & Media AG has sold the India territory mobile broadcast rights for this year’s Fifa World Cup to Weume Infosys Private Limited, a Chennai-headquartered provider of mobile content and Internet services.

    Infront made the announcement as part of four agreements it has signed for its World Cup new media rights package; the other three territories being France, Canada and Sweden.

    The agreements enable the licensees to transmit up to four minutes of key match footage for “near-live” and/or delayed coverage over the Internet and/or via mobile networks to mobile phones, geo-blocked for user access only within each territory.

    The exclusive mobile broadcast rights Weume Infosys has acquired, covers English and Hindi languages and applies also to archive video material of the 2002 event, which took place in Korea and Japan.

    Weume (pronounced as We-U-Me) will distribute the content through Weume’s portal as well as mobile networks and mobile portals within the territory. The company’s target is to reach approximately 85 million subscribers, the announcement states.

    Meanwhile, telecommunications operator France Telecom has secured the non-exclusive French-language rights for Internet highlight coverage of all World Cup matches for the territory of France. France Telecom will offer the match footage via its Internet platform.

    In Canada is Rogers Communications Ltd, a diversified Canadian communications and media company, that is exclusively licensing the English-language Internet and mobile telephony rights in Canada to all 64 matches of the World Cup as well as archive material from the 2002 edition of the tournament. Rogers will leverage the rights acquired on its multiple platforms including Rogers Wireless, Rogers Cable and Rogers Yahoo! Hi-Speed Internet. Rogers Sportsnet, a subsidiary of Rogers Communications, is already a World Cup television rights holder.

    Swedish territory rights have gone to the Scandinavian nation’s largest commercial television broadcaster TV4 AB, which has acquired the Internet and mobile telephony rights to all 64 matches and archive access to 2002 tournament’s matches in Swedish and English languages. TV4 is already a television rights holder.

    Infront has so far concluded new media agreements for almost 100 countries worldwide. With more such deals in the pipeline, Infront asserts that the 2006 Fifa World Cup will be the most diversified of any international sports event to date.
