  • DPA’s commitment to the experimental world of video advertising is ‘real’ and ‘rare’

DPA’s commitment to the experimental world of video advertising is ‘real’ and ‘rare’

MUMBAI: Using video for marketing has been a very effective tool for brands are marketers. One can find numerous stats online indicating how video ads are the best in creating conversation around a brand, how they give an exceptional ROI, and how it can make the brand relatable to the consumer.

With the advent of new age platforms, the brands are getting even more creative and versatile with their video ads, playing around with concepts, durations, and the messaging they want to share. One fine example is Diamond Producers Association, which entered the Indian market around two years back and has already experimented with several formats of story-telling, including the small TVCs, 15-20-second-long digital ads, and a recent web series ‘Pyaar Actually’, streaming on Hotstar, to market the one real love—diamonds.

Diamond Producers Association managing director- India Richa Singh, in an exclusive conversation told Indiantelevision.com that as an alliance of the world’s leading diamond mining companies, DPA’s aim is to not sell a product but establish this ‘billion year old unique piece’ as an integral part of all the happy moments of a person’s life. And that is what gives them a larger play field to try out newer concepts, newer stories, and unique style of marketing.

Their marquee campaign, ‘Real Is Rare’, uses this idea of integrating diamond in little happy moments of life to create subtle yet emotional TVCs, which showed diamonds being a partner in celebration of events like a baby being born, or a simple romantic getaway of a married couple in the night.

Speaking about the campaign, Singh said, “When we entered the Indian market, we spoke to a lot of consumers to understand what diamond meant to them. And we realised that most of them see it as a symbol of love. And love to them meant something that is real and rare. And that became the whole genesis of this campaign.”

The campaign was also utilised online in form of 22 short ads ranging between 15 and 20 seconds. There were no dialogues but just emotions playing out on screen with diamonds playing an important part in the story without being on the face.

“We wanted to capture those unsaid and rare moments between people that are real. We created the TVCs and the smaller digital ads keeping in mind the distinct age groups and different mind sets,” Singh further elaborated.

With the same frame of mind to include newer and younger consumers for diamonds, DPA recently launched a web series on Hotstar, ‘Pyaar Actually’. The series comprises four videos with stories that aim to showcase love across generations and among different relationships. It emphasises on sharing joyous and blissful moments celebrated with diamonds, which play a pivotal role in expressing love and affection. The series stars renowned television personalities such as Bhumi Pednekar, Mandira Bedi, Ritesh Deshmukh, Saurabh Shukla, Supriya Pilgaonkar, and Dino Morea.

Talking about the series, Singh once again emphasised that the core idea behind the series is to promote diamond as a part of every happy moment of one’s life, no matter the age group, no matter the story.

Commenting on the initiative, Wavemaker India chief content officer Karthik Nagarajan said, “Real is Rare is one of the finest campaigns released in the recent times and we thought the short film route to take the thread ahead was the most impactful way ahead The journey of bringing this to life with handpicked creators and partners, who helped create this wonderful piece of content was exciting. We are lucky to have a client like DPA who is willing to push the boundaries on digital-first content, which addresses business challenges.”

When any association is experimenting with varied forms of storytelling, another question that arises is how they are balancing between the numerous agencies they are dealing with.

Singh is quite delighted to share that all her three agencies, BDH (thematic), Digitas (digital films), and Wavemaker (Pyaar Actually), are working in great synchronisation to deliver the best of the creatives.

“It’s (managing different agencies) a lot to do with what we do as a brand. We treat our agency teams as extended brand teams. We sit together in a room to brainstorm, and the larger idea behind any campaign is picked together. Then the duties of individual campaigns are handed over to the team that knows the audience best. Regional nuances make a big difference, so does the different medium,” Singh revealed.

She wrapped by saying, “For example, we recently tied up with the Star Group to deliver regional language shorts on their various channels. It is just to get to the right audience.”

  • Niine launches period tracker app in Hindi, English

Niine launches period tracker app in Hindi, English

MUMBAI: Made-in-India sanitary napkin brand Niine has launched, in collaboration with Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI), a period tracker app.  The app has been developed in consultation with medical professionals and is said to be the first to be developed by a sanitary napkin brand in India. The app is available on Google Play and iOS for download and works in Hindi as well as English language.

As per the brand, the Niine Period Tracker is the solution for girls and women across India who want to move past the ‘taboo’, which menstrual hygiene is in the country, and become more aware of their body’s functions and their natural menstrual cycle. Offering convenience to women and girls, the app initially asks for the user’s age, date of last period and how long their averaged period lasts. Once this is complete, users are able to the keep a log which helps the app to generate its prediction for the following month.

Speaking about the launch of the Niine Period Tracker app, Niine Sanitary Napkins CEO Richa Singh said, “The Niine Period Tracker app builds on Niine’s already formidable reputation as a challenger brand, now becoming the first sanitary napkin brand to launch a period tracker app. We are also leading the way in innovation in the field with the app’s Amazon integration, making it easier than ever to order sanitary napkins through the app when supplies are running low. With this app, we are giving women across India more control over how they manage their periods, and are helping them to learn more about how their own bodies work.”

Discussing the significance of the app, Niine Sanitary Napkins founder Amar Tulsiyan said, “I am delighted that women and girls across India can now access the Niine Period Tracker, the first such app from a sanitary napkin company. This leap into the digital sector marks a significant moment for the Niine Movement. 71% of girls in India have no knowledge of menstruation before their first period. This can help to embed the stigma in later life, which is why it is important that they learn to have a healthy relationship with their menstrual cycle. Having the ability to track your own period is an immensely empowering resource for women, and I believe the app embodies Niine’s aim to spread menstrual hygiene awareness through education, enrolment and enhancement.”

  • Diamond Producers Association launches V-Day campaign

Diamond Producers Association launches V-Day campaign

MUMBAI: The Diamond Producers Association (DPA), an international alliance of the world’s leading diamond mining companies, has launched its second film as a part of their integrated marketing campaign ‘Real is Rare. Real is a Diamond’.

The film titled ‘Sneaking Out’ is conceptualised and created by BBH India, with the intention of celebrating the rare moments among couples with a diamond.

Extensive research conducted by DPA in partnership with BBH highlights that couples believe there are moments of bonding apart from anniversaries and birthdays which actually form the foundation of their relationship. However, these moments, unique and rare to each couple, go unrecognised in the journey of a relationship.

Sharing her thoughts on the launch, Diamond Producers Association managing director of India Richa Singh says, “There are lot of defining moments that make this journey unique and precious and we wanted diamonds to symbolise the successful transformation of the partnership by making them equals. The second TVC brings to light another real life example of such a moment.”

Commenting on the experience of creating the campaign film, BBH India chief creative officer and managing partner Russell Barrett mentions, “In many cases, especially with arranged marriages, couples first get married and sometime after, actually fall in love. We’ve tried to recreate an intimate moment in the lives of such a couple. A moment of epiphany when they realise that what they have is special, rare and authentic. No jewellery boxes being whipped out, no jaws dropping, none of the clichés of the category. “

The ‘Real is Rare’ platform aims to connect with the younger generation in a personal and emotionally relevant way, while emphasising that diamonds are a symbolic expression of commitment to a relationship.

The second TVC is a part of the larger ongoing campaign that marked the first ever category marketing initiative for diamonds globally. The campaign has been launched through an integrated marketing communications mix of TV, cinema, digital, PR, mobile and social media. The DPA will also be engaging with the entire diamond and jewellery community to bring this to life.

  • Diamond Producers equate precious moments with diamonds

Diamond Producers equate precious moments with diamonds

MUMBAI: The Diamond Producers Association, an international alliance of the world’s leading diamond mining companies has launched their integrated marketing campaign ‘Real is rare, real is a diamond’ in India. Created & executed by BBH India, the campaign focuses on celebrating the precious moments which mark the journey of a relationship between couples.

This campaign marks the first ever category marketing initiative in the diamond industry since a decade. Through extensive research and learnings, the DPA and BBH team discovered a primary insight that couples tend to celebrate anniversaries and birthdays as milestones, when there are other, mostly unrecognised moments of bonding and intimacy that actually form the foundation of their relationship. These moments are unique and rare to each couple and therefore deserve to be recognised and celebrated. Inspired by real stories, the ‘real is rare, real is a diamond’ campaign has recreated such moments of intimacy and bonding which couples can relate to and recognise as milestones.

Diamond Producers Association CEO Jean-Marc Lieberhe says, “India is an important market in the global consumer market and presents a significant opportunity for us. We are thrilled to announce the ‘Real is Rare. Real is a Diamond’ campaign which links diamonds to the precious moments between young Indian couples. The announcement is also to work closely within the sector to revitalise category marketing, focusing on the younger generation and catering to their specific needs and aspirations”.

Diamond Producers Association India managing director Richa Singh adds, “’Real is rare, real is a diamond’ focuses on a diamond’s billion-year-old natural heritage and equates that with what is most authentic and real in our lives. The campaign expresses the real and rare moments between couples and beautifully connects it to the unique quality of diamonds”.

BBH India CEO and managing partner Subhash Kamath says, “Our mandate was to reinterpret the idea of “Real is Rare” for the Indian market, and root it in a cultural truth. We’re not trying to promote any particular brand here, but make people see diamonds in a whole new light. It’s a long term goal and we’re thrilled to be partnering the DPA on this journey”.

The ad aims to connect with the younger generation in a personal and emotionally relevant way while emphasising that diamonds are a symbolic expression of emotional commitment. It is a story that is real, that is theirs and that is rare, with the diamond being a true symbol of what the relationship is all about.

The campaign has been launched through an integrated marketing communications mix of TV, cinema, digital, PR, mobile and social media.
