    MUMBAI: Rentrak has acquired Hollywood Software, Inc. (HSI), a Los Angeles-based company that develops enterprise software for managing key elements of the digital movie distribution and exhibition industries.

     

    Rentrak’s acquisition of HSI advances its mission to provide highly valuable, never-before-seen analytic tools to the motion picture industry. By combining Rentrak’s movie and television intelligence—including Video on Demand viewing information—with Hollywood Software’s studio and theater planning systems, this partnership will give movie studios an enhanced scope of a film’s success and revenue streams by providing a more comprehensive understanding of a film’s total viewership over its lifespan.

    Worldwide 2015 box office sets new record with $38+ billion

    MUMBAI: The global box office crossed the $38 billion benchmark, making 2015 the highest-earning year at the global box office in movie history according to Rentrak.

    An incredibly strong line-up of movies inspired audiences worldwide to flock to cinemas in 2015 and with Rentrak data culled from more than 125,000 screens in more than 25,000 theaters across the globe, the industry posted its biggest overall revenue in worldwide box office history, with a total of $38 billion-plus projected for the year. 

    “The importance of the international marketplace to the overall success of the motion picture studios, the exhibition business and the movies themselves cannot be overstated, with key territories across the globe plus North America providing the collective horsepower to push us near the $40 billion mark for the first time ever. Following hot on the heels of a record-breaking first-time ever $11 billion-plus year at the box office in North America, this global record proves that going to the movies is a beloved pastime that is enjoyed throughout the world, with moviegoers from a wide array of backgrounds and cultures all coming together for the shared in-theater experience,” said Rentrak senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian.

    A vast lineup of films in 2015 including this summer’s mega-hit Jurassic World, the action-packed Furious 7, the superhero-filled Avengers: Age of Ultron, the family-friendly Minions and of course the record breaking Star Wars: The Force Awakens, helped to fuel this incredible year’s record performance. Notably, global hits came from virtually every studio and included the latest James Bond installment Spectre, the action-packed Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation, the final film in The Hunger Games franchise,Mockingjay, Part 2, Ridley Scott’s hit science fiction drama The Martian and Dwayne Johnson in San Andreas among many others.

    comScore – Rentrak merger moves one step closer to completion

    MUMBAI: comScore, Inc and Rentrak Corporation have said that the registration statement on Form S-4 filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) by comScore on 30 October, 2015, and as subsequently amended, which includes a joint proxy statement/prospectus of comScore and Rentrak, was declared effective by the SEC on 23 December, 2015.

     

    comScore and Rentrak have each scheduled special shareholder meetings for 28 January, 2016, in order to seek shareholder approval of the proposed merger. Each company’s shareholders of record at the close of business on 10 December, 2015 will be entitled to vote at their respective meetings.

     

    On 23 December, 2015, comScore filed a revised joint proxy statement/prospectus pursuant to Rule 424(b) of the Securities Act of 1933, as amended, in order to make available the document that will be mailed to comScore and Rentrak shareholders in connection with the respective special meetings. The joint proxy statement/prospectus is available through the SEC’s website at www.sec.gov and via comScore’s IR website and Rentrak’s IR website. comScore and Rentrak will begin mailing the joint proxy statement/prospectus to their respective shareholders to provide additional information and instructions for voting by 28 December, 2015.

     

    The closing of the merger remains subject to approval by comScore and Rentrak shareholders. As was reported earlier by Indiantelevision.com, the merger agreement was unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies, and comScore and Rentrak expect the deal to close promptly after the shareholder approval. Assuming shareholder approval, the combined company is expected to trade under the comScore ticker symbol (SCOR) by the end of January.

     

    On 29 September, 2015, comScore and Rentrak entered into a definitive agreement to merge in an all-stock, tax-free transaction. Under the terms of the agreement, Rentrak shareholders will receive 1.15 comScore shares for each Rentrak share they own. Upon completion of the merger, comScore shareholders are expected to own approximately 66.5 per cent and Rentrak shareholders are expected to own approximately 33.5 per cent of the combined company on a fully diluted basis.

    Rentrak signs contract with CBS affiliate KTVN-TV in Reno

    MUMBAI: Rentrak has signed a long-term TV measurement agreement with KTVN-TV (CBS) in Reno Nev., a station owned by an early pioneering local broadcaster Sarkes Tarzian, Inc.

     

    With the agreement, KTVN-TV will have access to Rentrak’s massive and passive measurement system including daily household and demographic ratings, which will help them reach the desired targets of advertisers.

     

    “We are excited to have access to Rentrak’s stable demographic ratings. Rentrak’s measurement of Reno through their massive database here will provide stable, reliable daily ratings information that we can use to better understand our audiences and serve our advertisers,” said KTVN-TV president and general manager Lawson Fox.

    MUMBAI: Turner Broadcasting has inked an agreement with Rentrak around its Advanced Demographics that will power data for select advertisers around Turner’s suite of advanced advertising products.

    As was earlier reported by Indiantelevision.com, Rentrak has entered into a merger agreement with comScore, which measures online viewing patterns.

    This agreement, an expansion to an ongoing relationship between the two companies, includes Turner Targeting NOW and Audience NOW, advanced advertising products designed to optimise audience delivery to an advertiser’s specific marketing targets, moving away from traditional age and gender-based guarantees.

    “We are motivated to continue our investment in advanced measurement solutions for our advertising partners. As we power those relationships with data agnostic product offerings, this agreement with Rentrak complements those efforts and is our first non-age and gender guaranteed media campaign,” said Turner Ad Sales SVP – client and consumer insights Dan Aversano.

    MUMBAI: Rentrak has partnered with MovieTickets.com, the provider of advance movie ticketing, representing 28,000 screens, to co-develop products that unlock a suite of marketing, planning and ROI measurement tools for the movie and television industries.

     

    Rentrak will link its merged TV viewing and box office sales ticket information with MovieTickets.com’s individual-level ticket purchasing information, in a privacy compliant way, to help studios and TV programmers better target television advertising and interpret the effectiveness of their ad campaigns.

     

    Together, Rentrak and MovieTickets.com information creates a suite of products that will connect the ecosystem of TV viewers and moviegoers.     Rentrak inks contract with CBS-affiliated TV station in San Diego

    MUMBAI: Rentrak has signed a TV measurement agreement with KFMB-TV, the CBS-affiliate in San Diego.

     

    KFMB-TV, which was the first local television station to air in San Diego, will utilize Rentrak’s massive and passive measurement system to provide their clients with more stable, accurate and comprehensive ratings information from more than 800,000 TVs in the San Diego market.

     

    Additionally, KFMB-TV will employ Rentrak’s single-source Auto and Political Advanced Demographics to target commercial messages to these two advertising categories: auto purchasers and voter segments.

    MUMBAI: Rentrak has inked a deal with Katz Television Group, Portland’s television sales company, which represents more TV stations and broadcast groups than any other firm in the country.

     

    The new agreement will provide Katz with Rentrak’s full suite of local market ratings services, including its automotive and political Advanced Demographics, for all common client stations.

     

    Katz will use Rentrak ratings and Advanced Demographic information to gain a deeper understanding of how local TV audiences view television across the entire year, in every local market. Using Rentrak insights, Katz is able to sell the value and relevance of their partner stations’ audiences, not just their size.
