Star World brings Jackie Chan on ‘Rendezvous…’

MUMBAI: Star World brings a treat to all the Jackie Chan fans as the prime time show Rendezvous with Simi Garewal will feature the martial-arts superstar. The programme is slotted to air on 3 September at 9:30 pm.

An official release quotes Garewal, “Jackie was wonderful. He didn’t hide anything, didn’t evade any question. He wasn’t ‘image-conscious’– in fact he spoke about aspects even more than I could have asked for. He revealed things that aren’t even there in his biography! Graciously, he was the one who knelt and thanked me!”

In this special episode, Jackie speaks about his painfully rigorous childhood, the fact that he was born in poverty and his immigrant parents almost sold him at birth to a British doctor, as they couldn’t afford the hospital bill. For the first time, the blatantly honest superstar shares details of his marriage, the fact that he has been a bad husband, selfish when it comes to love, and that he has not been able to give time to his wife or his 23-year-old son Jaycee and how he is trying to make-up for lost time, states an official release.

  • ‘Rendezvous’ with India’s hottest hunk- John Abraham on Star World

‘Rendezvous’ with India’s hottest hunk- John Abraham on Star World

Tune-in to the fifth season of Rendezvous With Simi Garewal as it debuts on Sunday, February 12th at 9.30 p.m. only on Star World

Mumbai, February 6, 2006… “Gentle and romantic, also red, hot and smashing. You’re not just hot you’re on fire,” is how Simi Garewal introduces her first guest as she returns to Star World for another exciting season of her popular weekly chat show – ‘Rendezvous with Simi Garewal’. The most successful chat show on Indian television is back for its fifth season with none other than Bollywood’s hottest sensation – John Abraham. Make sure you don’t miss the first episode of this season on Sunday, February 12th at 9:30 p.m. on Star World when Simi quizzes him on his love for bikes, Bipasha, money, fame and adulation.

    Excerpts from the interview:
Fame and adulation is something that happens outside of you. Does it change something inside as well?
John: It does to an extent… in the sense… it works two ways actually… either you become a little more secure about yourself or you become a little more insecure about yourself post getting a lot of fame. Because the more you get the more you want and that is where most of us fall, very honestly.

Didn’t you date a lot of girls?
John: I did date girls, but there were never one-night stands or frivolous relationships.

When you started seeing Bipasha you were quite unknown and today it’s you who gets the most attention. Has that changed the balance in your relationship?
John: Hmm. Not in the relationship… but, yes the projection outside the relationship has changed, you know, earlier I was Bipasha Basu’s boyfriend but today I am John Abraham. I have an identity of myself. It’s great to be in a relationship, but it is very important to be known singularly.

Is your relationship settled enough to withstand the pressures of Bollywood?
John: Our relationship is very settled. Because Bipasha is very mature. But there are pressures other than Bollywood … there is compatibility; there are other issues that are more important than just pressures from outside and I think that’s something we deal with in everyday life.

Are you protective or do you like to be mothered?
John: Well, I thought I was protective … But, when Bipasha and I argue, she always says that don’t treat me like your mother. Because you know I am always being pampered, I need food to be served, but I am quite self-sufficient when I am alone. But, I guess you take people for granted when you know they are there. I know Bipasha is always around.

Are you better brother, better lover or son?
John: Better son. I would like to believe so. I want to keep my parents extremely happy.

    Is money important?
John: Yes, money is very important. But I don’t splurge. For me one rupee is 100 paise. I have imbibed the value for money from my father. I did my schooling from Bombay Scottish, where all my mates had cars. I used to demand my father for a car. But, he always told me, “learn to travel like a common man”. Even today my father travels by public transport in spite of me having gifted him a car with a driver.

Is Bike – a female or male?
John: She. She is elegant, graceful.

So, there are two she’s in your life?
John: Yes, one keeps changing and getting updated.

    And the other?
John: The other one is constant.

So this Sunday don’t miss John Abraham on Rendezvous with Simi Garewal on Star World, Feb 12th at 9.30 p.m.

  • A ‘Rendezvous’ with the ‘Khan’daan

Mumbai, February 22, 2006… The name ‘Khan’ evokes a certain charisma in Bollywood. This Khan Khandaan lives big, dreams big, their lifestyle, everything about them is grand. Meet Sanjay & Zarine Khan along with their son and Bollywood’s hottest new sensation Zayed Khan on ‘Rendezvous with Simi Garewal’. Amidst all the bigness and grandeur, Sanjay Khan speaks his heart out of the near-fatal accident he experienced on the sets of Tipu Sultan, the mid-life crisis the couple faced, Zayed’s notorious pranks and his road to stardom this Sunday, February 26th at 9: 30 p.m. only on Star World.

    Excerpts from the interview:

Simi: Could you both have done without each other?
    Zarine: No
Sanjay: No, I don’t think I would have been the man I am, if she was not the woman she is.

Simi: But then came the trials, the crisis that crescent your marriage, did you realize that your marriage was under stress?
Sanjay: I don’t think it was under stress.
Zarine: My marriage seemed to be in a lot of stress… especially to a lot of other people … but not to me
Sanjay: I was taken for granted by somebody else… there was no such thing from my side… there was no betrayal of trust.

Simi: But, you did get temporarily involved with your leading lady?
Sanjay: I would say, it could have happened.
Zarine: I knew my husband, may be he did falter, a little bit, but again being an actor’s wife you got to have that much of patience and at the same time the conviction that he will come back to you.

Simi: Sanjay, you have been literally, physically been through hell when the fire took place on the sets of Tipu Sultan?
Sanjay: That was the biggest challenge of my life… I was in debt… I owed money to people… and this happened… Tipu sultan was my biggest gamble… 13 months I was in hospital… first 2 months I was in coma… the 3rd, 4th and 5th month I was sleeping on a plastic sheet of blood.

Simi: Pain must have been …
    Sanjay: It was excruciating pain…

Simi: You went through 65% burns.
Sanjay: And I had 72 surgeries!
Zarine: It was terrifying, the doctor had given only 10% chances of survival and when I walked in the hospital I couldn’t believe this was my handsome husband.

Simi: Sanjay, do you see yourself in Zayed?
Sanjay: Very much, my mirror image. From the head to toe, but his eyes are his mother’s eyes
Zayed: I think I am mix of both

Simi: After these 3 girls who were like dolls, were you ready for the firecracker that arrived?
Zarine: He was an absolute firecracker from the day he was born…

Simi: What did you do Zayed?
Zayed: Oh my god! Everything from dropping ink on her Persian carpets to breaking her very expensive things at home.

Simi: So Sanjay, when he told you that he seriously wanted to become an actor, what did you tell him?
Sanjay: He used to smoke so much; he was skinny, looking gawky. I told him, look at yourself in the mirror first, build your muscles, go to a gym, stop smoking, put some discipline, when you walk into a room you should look like a gladiator… heads should turn.

So this Sunday don’t miss Sanjay, Zarine and Zayed Khan on Rendezvous with Simi Garewal on Star World, Feb 26th at 9.30 p.m.

  • ‘Rendezvous’ with Imran Khan on Star World

‘Rendezvous’ with Imran Khan on Star World

The charismatic Pathan finally opens up on his life, love and dreams
A very special three part Rendezvous with Imran Khan, kicks off this Sunday Catch the living legend of Pakistan, Imran Khan, on ‘A Rendezvous with Simi Garewal’
Sunday, April 9th at 9.30 pm on Star World

Mumbai, April 4, 2006: Legends do not come any bigger than this. Arguably Pakistan’s greatest ever cricketer, today he is a charismatic politician fighting against injustice and autocracy. While his personal life has seen quite a bit of upheaval in the recent past, he has characteristically maintained a dignified silence till now.
In a special three part Rendezvous, the legendary Imran Khan opens up like never before, and provides the answers to all the speculation. The first part of this exclusive Rendezvous kicks off this Sunday, April 9th at 9.30 pm only on Star World.

In this first episode, the focus is on Imran, the cricketer and Imran, the son. Here are a few excerpts from the conversation…

    Excerpts from the interview:
Simi: Cricketers entertain, but you always want to do serious things. Does it affect the way people look at you?
Imran: Actually it depends on your credibility. Fame helps you with name recognition. But ultimately it is the credibility, which counts.

Simi: You were ambitious, even as a young boy… is it true?
Imran: Oh yeah, I was always a dreamer. Age of nine onwards, I had no doubts that I would play for Pakistan. It was just the question of when. I thought I’d be the youngest cricketer ever. And then when I started playing at the age of 18, I had this ambition of taking 10 wickets in a match!

Simi: You discovered new talents, didn’t you?
Imran: Well, I discovered because I had these scouts who used to tell me which player is doing well. That’s how Inzamam-ul-Haq was discovered. I knew he was a great talent when I saw him play for just 5 minutes.

Simi: What has changed in cricket since your innings?
Imran: The positive change is the quality of fielding, which has gone way up. The negative side is the quality of fast bowling has gone down a bit. We need more wicket-taking bowlers. Someone like Shoaib Akhtar concentrates more on the bowling speed rather than the wicket taking part.

Simi: In whom do you see the potential today? Here I am talking about the Indian cricketers.
Imran: Irfan Pathan. He very much reminds me of young Wasim Akram. You can have all the talent but if you do not have the character to translate that talent into performance then it’s wasted. Irfan has it. He is a lion hearted cricketer.

Simi: You dated some of the most glamorous woman of those times… movie stars, models, Emma Sergeant, the painter. They were obviously attracted to you. But were you attracted by them because of their glamour?
Imran: What attracts other people, you will never know. There can be some glamorous people who are unattractive. Because they become quite self-centered, self-obsessed, actually boring. It’s actually the personality, which is the key.

Always written about and never heard, here is your chance to find out how Imran Khan sees himself. Rendezvous with Simi Garewal on Sunday, April 9th at 9.30 pm.
