    News18 India tops charts with 96.5 per cent viewership jump during India-Pakistan conflict

    MUMBAI: As tensions flared during the recent India-Pakistan conflict, viewers across the country turned to News18 India in record numbers. The Hindi news channel soared to the top of the charts, notching a 96.5 per cent spike in Average Minute Audience (AMA000’s), according to Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) data.

    From 7-9 May, News18 India clocked 39,341 AMA000’s, establishing itself as the most-watched Hindi news channel during the period. Its Cumulative Reach’00 also saw a substantial rise, touching 45,438—a 49.9 per cent increase. (Source: BARC, Market: HSM, TG: 2+, Period: Wk 18’25)

    In a volatile media environment flooded with misinformation about India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’, News18 India focused on accurate, responsible, and timely reportage. The channel broke key developments, including the pivotal DGMO calls that halted further escalation.

    Network18’s broader general news portfolio also registered a sharp rise in performance. With an AMA000’s count of 81,155, the network saw an 82.8 per cent boost. Its Cumulative Reach’00 reached 1,02,485, marking a 38.6 per cent week-on-week surge. (Source: BARC, Market: India, TG: 2+)

    On a weekly basis, 1st India News has consistently outperformed the competition in the Rajasthan urban market among the key TG of 15-50 year old males and female ABC TG.

    In the same TG, 1st India Rajasthan has prevailed over the competition on a week-on-week basis, with a 46 per cent share in week 39 and a 45 per cent share in week 40, respectively.     Zee Group expands across South India; launches four regional news channels

    Mumbai: Expanding its footprint across South India, Zee Group on Tuesday announced the launch of four digital news channels – Zee Tamil News, Zee Kannada News, Zee Malayalam News and Zee Telugu News to cater to the tech-savvy young viewers in the southern market.

     “It is a great feat for us to enter the South Indian market with digital news channels that aren’t just selling debates. We see a gap in honest, unbiased, and extensive on-ground reporting in these markets, and hence these channels will cater to fulfilling that gap. We aim to be the most trustworthy news brand of these markets,” stated CEO of South channels Purushottam Vaishnava.

    According to the data cited by the company, the internet penetration of South India is much higher compared to the rest of India. The time spent watching videos per day has also increased by 60–70 per cent over 2018–20, where 85 per cent of content viewed is non-English and 30 per cent in languages other than English or Hindi. “With 68 per cent of the population consuming news through digital platforms, Zee plans to address the need for a voice which can focus on the real on-ground situations,” it said in a statement.

    Zee Media founder and Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Chandra said, “It is indeed a great pleasure for us that we are launching four digital news channels in South India. Helmed by Purushottam and very capable editors – Manjesh Gopal, Ravi, Sebi Stanley and Bharat Kumar – I believe that we will be one of the most trusted news sources and set new benchmarks in the news media. We will soon be launching a news channel in Kashmiri language too.”

    The channels which will fall under India Dotcom Private Ltd have also launched a marketing campaign with a focus on the digital platform along with radio and TV.

    Udaya Kumar, who was appointed as the sales head for the south digital channels said, “We have carefully curated programming that caters to all the needs and wants of an educated viewer. Our focus is not just politics but includes a plethora of other genres like crime scene investigation, political satire, lifestyle, health, etc. Looking forward to some great work with this dynamic team and contributing to the revenue growth across all four south Indic languages.”

    The channels – Zee Tamil News, Zee Kannada News, Zee Malayalam News, and Zee Telugu News – will be available on the respective websites as well as YouTube platforms, social media platforms such as Facebook, OTT streaming platforms like Zee5 and others along with news aggregators like Dailyhunt, etc, said the company.

    TV9 Network joins News Broadcasters Federation

    Mumbai: TV9 Network on Wednesday announced that it has joined News Broadcasters Federation (NBF). NBF is a broadcast news body formed by more than 78 news channels representing 14 languages and 25 states.

    The NBF recently saw the induction of Sahara Network, CVR Network, and V6 as its new members.

    “NBF is the first body of broadcasters in India that truly represents the vision and concerns of regional, vernacular, and national media that constitute the changing face of media in India,” said the broadcast network in a statement.

    “NBF’s goals are to support regional news channels and their digital platforms in understanding and complying with regulatory requirements with regard to news content,” it added.

    Welcoming TV9 Network on board, NBF president Arnab Goswami said that the NBF is the nation’s only body that truly represents national and regional players, catering to their aspirations and forming a system to cohesively and unitedly raise concerns regarding broadcast news media. “The NBF is the most democratically run news media body and that is what makes us stand out amongst the rest. I am proud to say that today NBF is the biggest body for broadcast news and is one that is for a New India and one for the future,” he added.

    “We are delighted to join the NBF. I am impressed with the democratic way of functioning of Arnab and other members of the governing body,” said TV9 Network, group chief executive officer, Barun Das. “Regional news genre enjoys the biggest pie of viewership and revenue in the news TV industry.     Sahara India to start a Bengali channel; roll out IPTV services soon

    KOLKATA: The Lucknow-headquartered Sahara India Pariwar that has been in the media and entertainment business since some time now, plans to start a Bengali infotainment channel very soon.

     

    Currently, the company has entertainment channels, a movie channel and many regional news channels. It also has round the clock regional news channels, Sahara Samay in 30 cities.

     

    Sahara India chairman and managing director Subrata Roy, who was in Kolkata for a media interaction on Friday, said, “We have already widened our channel offerings. We plan to start a channel in the Bengali language space as well.” However, he refused to provide any further details.

     

    Not just that, Roy also mentioned that the company plans to roll out internet protocol television (IPTV) system, though he didn’t divulge any further details about it too.

     

    When Roy was quizzed about the low distribution of the Sahara channels, he rubbished it and said that the channels are doing well.

     

    The Sahara Group would also be hiring 48,000 executives and 2.5 lakh lower level employees over a period of 8-10 years.
