    Sony Music and Tiger Baby birth new label, Tiger Baby Records

    MUMBAI: Sony Music Entertainment India and Tiger Baby have unveiled Tiger Baby Records, a fresh joint venture designed to champion emerging talent and weave musical narratives. This new label, a fusion of Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti’s creative clout, and Ankur Tewari’s musical vision, with Sony Music’s global reach, promises to shake up the Indian music scene.

    Tiger Baby Records has already made waves, collaborating with jewellery brand Tanishq on a wedding song composed by Abhishek-Ananya and performed by Poorvi Koutish, directed by Kagti. They’ve also released the soundtrack for “Superboys of Malegaon,” featuring compositions by Sachin-Jigar and lyrics by Javed Akhtar.

    The label will also showcase original music curated by Tewari, highlighting diverse styles and emerging artists. To further support budding talent, Tiger Baby Records is launching the “City Sessions” initiative, in partnership with Mumbai’s Island City Studios. This program will offer a platform for artists to experiment and collaborate in a dynamic environment.

    Superboys of Malegaon film shines at the 68th BFI London Film Festival

    Mumbai: Amazon MGM Studios, Excel Entertainment, and Tiger Baby Production took the spotlight at the 68th BFI London Film Festival with their much-anticipated film Superboys of Malegaon. Following its successful world premiere at TIFF, the film garnered a strong positive response from a full audience in London. It was screened on 10 October at Vue West End.

    Directed by Reema Kagti and written by Varun Grover, Superboys of Malegaon is a lighthearted look into the unique filmmaking culture of Malegaon, India. The story follows a group of amateur filmmakers in a small town as they create parody films, capturing themes of community, resilience, and the magic of cinema. The film highlights the determination and creativity of the town’s residents while offering a heartfelt portrayal of their filmmaking journey.

    The screening saw the attendance of key team members, including Ritesh Sidhwani, Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti, and Adarsh Gourav, alongside several international celebrities, critics, and cinema enthusiasts. In the 1970s, they revolutionized Indian cinema by reinventing the Bollywood formula, introducing ‘angry young man’ heroes in a romance-dominated industry, and making action dramas a beloved genre. Produced by Salman Khan Films, Excel Media & Entertainment, and Tiger Baby, Angry Young Men is executive produced by Salma Khan, Salman Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, and marks the directorial debut of Namrata Rao.     MUMBAI: In its latest on ground activity for a film, Radio Mirchi brought the star couples of the soon to be released film Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd face to face with eight couples who participated in a Mirchi contest where they narrated their most hilarious honeymoon experiences.

    The stars and the eight couples travelled on the ‘honeymoon travels bus’ from Hilton Towers to Salt Water Grill in Mumbai.

    Radio Mirchi also features in the film along with RJ Harsh who plays a radio jockey called Sunny Singh in the film who hosts a show called ‘Pyar Ke Lamhe’. RJ Harsh hosts the morning show on Mirchi called Hello Mumbai.

    The director of the film Reema Kagti revealed, “We need a narrator or a sutradhar for the film. A voice that could discuss individual characters, reveal secrets about them and their past in the movie. I first heard Harsh’s voice while I was stuck in a never-ending traffic jam on the streets of Mumbai. At that time I was searching for a voice to dub for the character of the RJ. His voice was perfect for the part and I immediately decided to use him as the sutradhar and the voice on the radio show called ‘Pyaar ke Lamhe’ in the movie.”

    Speaking at the event producer of Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd Ritesh Sidhwani said, “In the competitive environment that we operate in, we are constantly seeking novel ways to promote our movies. We have to take the movie to the audiences and we were convinced that the best way to reach them is through Radio Mirchi and taking our stars to their listeners. We came up with this wonderful idea to utilize one of our key characters and our set – the star bus to drive around the streets of Mumbai.”

    Studio 18 gears up for first Bollywood release

    MUMBAI: TV18 group’s film division, Studio 18, is gearing up to make its first foray into Bollywood. It will be releasing Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar’s romantic comedy Honeymoon Travels Private Limited on 23 February The movie directed by Reema Kagti is will be released worldwide with 50 prints.

    In the pipeline are six other releases namely Raaj Kumar Santoshi’s Halla Bol starring Ajay Devgan and Vidya Balan and Kya Love Story Hain from VR Entertainment starring Tusshar Kapoor and Ayesha Takia.

    Studio 18 was set up last year by Raghav Bahl, along with Sandeep Bhargava, the former head of Sahara Motion Pictures. Since then it has roped in the likes of Ashoka Holla, Tanuj Garg and Gayatri Batra.

    Talking about the appointments Bhargava says, “The three have had experience in releasing some of the biggest money-spinners overseas including experience in syndication, festivals, new market development and exploitation of emerging media.”

    The international division, with offices in the US and UK, will market and distribute in-house productions and external acquisitions in foreign markets.

    Adds Holla, “The focus will also be on broadening the appetite of the overseas audience by being first-movers in presenting an alternate menu to them. This division of Studio 18 intends to assemble a diverse slate – that is mainstream Bollywood features of viable sizes, genres and set-ups and exploit them through a bouquet of available rights to the maximum.”
