SoCheers bolsters leadership team with two key appointments

Mumbai: SoCheers, a digital-first full-service advertising agency, has appointed two new members to its leadership team with Jaideep Thackeray and Randal Gomes. They joined the ranks as creative head of design and head of business development, respectively.

“We have quite significantly grown in the past few years in terms of clients and people both. Therefore, we wanted to further strengthen and have some seasoned leaders to drive the teams,” stated SoCheers co-founder and CEO Mehul Gupta. “Interestingly, both the leaders tend to understand the evolution of digital and its acceptance in the years gone by as well as foresee its growth to come. I am confident that with such synchronised synergies, the agency will surely touch newer heights as we gear up to expand our client base to more markets as well as up the game with our existing brands.”

Thackeray comes with an array of creative experience with prominent agencies like JWT, Ogilvy, Contract Advertising, Rickshaw Communications, to name a few. In his professional career of around 12 years, he has worked with revered brands like Shoppers Stop, Asian Paints, Palladium, and High Street Phoenix.

In his new role, he will be responsible for developing and growing the internal design team, championing client pitches, and helping the agency chart a fresh and innovative way forward for upcoming projects. “Just like other aspects of digital marketing, design too is witnessing a constant evolution. Having the best design artwork and impactful brand message go hand in hand because the former enthralls the viewers with its aesthetics and the latter demonstrates the brand ethos. Having said that, this is the balance I always try to achieve with my work. For me, this is the perfect opportunity to grow as a creative professional, as SoCheers is on a growing curve, working with some of the biggest brands in the industry,” Thackeray said.

Gomes brings with him a decade worth of experience in the digital marketing industry. Before joining SoCheers, he led the strategy and business development team at MindShift Interactive where he played a crucial role in developing landmark and trending campaigns like #FeelingBlue (for Reliance 3G), and #ChappalMaaro (for The Bombay Store).

In his current role, he will be leading the business development vertical and will be responsible for growing the agency’s footprint by helping them acquire new clients. “The digital industry never ceases to amaze me. With the pandemic outbreak, the digital landscape has become even more revolutionized, having a plethora of brands test waters. Both the digital agencies as well as brands have acknowledged innovations in this space. Therefore, for me, SoCheers is definitely a new terrain of possibilities and I am super excited to have the agency expand its client roster,” commented Gomes.

In a statement issued on Friday, the microfinance firm said it has hired more than 2,300 employees while opening as many as 64 new offices across different parts of the country. Most of the new employees were roped in as part of recruitment drives conducted for candidates who had lost their job due to the pandemic.

The firm has allowed all employees to work from home during the period, apart from providing Covid insurance for all, covering hospitalisation costs as well as expenses on medicine. “Besides, Muthoot Microfin ensured no pay cut and complete job security for all employees. Agri graduates hired by AIR, no plans for recruitments for Kisan TV: Jaitley

NEW DELHI: All India Radio has appointed 26 agricultural graduates as Farm and Home/Farm Radio reporters for its programmes aimed at the farming community.

The Parliament was informed by Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley that these appointees are from the recently concluded recruitment for the post of Transmission Executive.

Meanwhile, he said Prasar Bharati has ‘no proposal as of now’ to recruit agricultural graduates for Kisan TV channel.

He said Kisan TV was being run by the in-house staff of Doordarshan and by engagement of casual staff according to the requirement of the channel.

Experts from the agricultural field are consulted from time to time as required, he added in reply to a question.

  • Over 3000 posts in AIR, DD revived for filling through direct recruitment

Over 3000 posts in AIR, DD revived for filling through direct recruitment

NEW DELHI: The Government has said that 3067 of the 3452 identified as essential category posts in All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan to be filled through direct recruitment have already been revived.

Another 38 middle/senior level programme posts have also been revived through deputations, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore told the Lok Sabha on 27 February.

The Minister admitted that there are 16,764 vacancies in All India Radio and Doordarshan as against a sanctioned strength of 46,756.

Rathore said that the Sam Pitroda Committee had recommended a complete manpower audit of the pubcaster and also asked to draw up a re-deployment scheme. The Ministry had already asked Prasar Bharati to prepare an action plan in this connection, the Minister said.

In June last year, the then I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar had given his clearance in principle to setting up Recruitment Boards for Prasar Bharati, and Indiantelevision.com had learnt that a total of 1154 technical posts had been cleared by the relevant selection committees.

These include programme executives, transmission executives, technicians, engineering assistants and duty officers, sources in Prasar Bharati said.

The pubcaster has not had any senior-level recruitment since it came into being in September 1997, and sources said that those posts, which could not be filled out of these, were held up because there is no Prasar Bharati Recruitment Board.

As of early 2013, there were 1362 vacancies in Group A, 1,584 in Group B, 4863 in Group C and 2272 in group D in All India Radio. In Doordarshan, 724 posts are vacant in Group A, 1140 in Group B, 2871 in Group C, and 1451 in Group D.

All India Radio and Doordarshan had total staff strength of 33,800 against a total sanctioned strength of 48,022, leaving a gap of 14222 posts.

The most critically affected areas were the Programme Wing and the News Services Division (AIR)/DD News.

The Committee for Information Technology in 2012 regretted that Prasar Bharati had failed to live up to the assurance given by then Prasar Bharati CEO that the Recruitment Boards for Prasar Bharati would be set up by 31 March, 2011.

It is understood that the Union Public Service Commission and SSC had both refused to select for a non-Governmental organisation, thus creating a new problem for the Ministry/Prasar Bharati.

The Proposal for setting up a Prasar Bharati Recruitment Board was approved by Prasar Bharati Board on 21 July, 2010 and discussed in the Ministry and a final proposal was referred to the Department of Personnel and Training on 15 February, 2011. DOP&T concurred with the proposal in June 2011 and the comments of the Department of Expenditure (DOE) were also received on 28 September 2011.

The DoE had requested that a separate proposal be formulated for creation of posts for the secretariat of Prasar Bharati Recruitment Board and also requested for drafting of agreement containing terms and conditions of the members of the Board. This had been done and the proposal sent to DoE in February 2012 and then to Law Ministry.
