Bombay Shaving Company ropes in Rannvijay Singha as the face of its trimmer range

Mumbai: Bombay Shaving Company (BSC) has signed Rannvijay Singha in an exclusive endorsement deal. The grooming brand has also introduced a video-led campaign, “Take It From The Experts.” The campaign video was directed and executed by Bandstand Entertainment.

Singha will be the face and spokesperson of Bombay Shaving Company’s latest range of trimmer products starting this month. The announcement comes right on the heels of the company’s lucrative association with the Mumbai Indians earlier this year. It clearly demonstrates the brand’s intent to go all-in to revolutionise men’s grooming in the country.

The engagement with Rannvijay kickstarts with an exciting and irreverent marketing campaign for BSC’s latest range of men’s trimmers. In the video-led campaign, confidently titled “Take It From The Experts,” Rannvijay will be seen enabling and urging the youth to make better grooming choices by trusting the expertise of Bombay Shaving Company instead of falling for the gimmicks of non-core grooming brands operating in the category.

Speaking of his association with the brand, Rannvijay said, “Thanks to the nature of my work, I’ve had the good fortune of spending a lot of time with the youth of this country. I’ve seen firsthand how confidence changes lives for many. A lot of that self-confidence is derived from looking and feeling good. That’s why they deserve grooming solutions driven by expertise. I’ve been an avid user of Bombay Shaving Company’s trimmers for some time and can personally vouch for the thought and attention to detail that goes into their products. It’s a pleasure and privilege to be associated with them.”

Commenting on the partnership, Bombay Shaving Company chief operating officer Deepak Gupta added, “We have an extremely optimistic outlook on the trimmer category per se, and are superbly placed in terms of product innovation and equity to serve it well. Starting September, and in the following months, we’re poised to scale to three times our current volumes, and seriously challenge current incumbents. More substantially, we believe that unwanted hair removal creates the biggest delta in the perception of self-image and appearance, and we are committed to becoming the brand of choice whenever a 15-year-old is ready for his first shave or trim. The association with Rannvijay – someone an entire generation looks up to – becomes even more meaningful from this perspective.”

“Very few understand the hopes and aspirations of a young generation of men better than Rannvijay. We are delighted to have him on board not only as the face of the trimmer range, but perhaps even as a guide and inspiration for our activities to come. We are going to market with a range of trimmers that score high on design, performance, value, and other nuanced features based on deep learning as grooming experts. We’re confident Rannvijay will convey our proposition with substance and impact to over two crore Indians across metros and non-metros in the months to come,” said Bombay Shaving Company vice president of marketing Laalit Lobo.

Elaborating on creative execution, Bombay Shaving Campaign creative director Broti Roychoudhury commented, “The problem statement was clear. Trimmers as a category demand a grooming expert’s presence and voice. “Take It From The Experts” makes the point with clarity, conviction and chutzpah, i.e., palatable to a younger (gen Z and millennial) audience. The tone and treatment is deliberately eclectic and quirky, which distinguishes it from regular category codes, with clear impact moments that viewers will recall. And I’m so happy that Rannvijay hopped on without hesitation and added his own unique flavour to the campaign. Now we’re all set to deploy it in many interesting ways across online and offline channels.”

  • Pepsi ropes in Raghu & Rajiv for Crash the IPL TVC

Pepsi ropes in Raghu & Rajiv for Crash the IPL TVC

MUMBAI: Rajiv Laxman and Raghu Ram have garnered a cult following thanks to their histrionics on MTV Roadies. Now global cola giant Pepsi has roped in the terrible twins in a bid to stoke the voting instincts of online video guzzlers in India to help it decide which consumer generated commercials (as part of its Crash the IPL campaign) make the cut and make it on broadcast television.

The duo has produced a commercial under the umbrella of their production house Monozygotic. The TVC is slated to go on air in the next day or two (on MAX and SIX respectively), though it has already made its debut on YouTube.

Both Rajiv and Raghu have gained notoriety over the past decade as the very hostile audition hosts of MTV Roadies (which they quit late last year) who bludgeon contestants with their nastiness.

The Pepsi TVC begins with the producer of a show tearing his hair out about the low audience ratings it is garnering. His team informs him that the ratings have fallen because the brothers have been extremely kind towards the contestants appearing for the auditions. And a flashback follows. Almost every participant sails through the brothers with them telling each one “What the Stress Yaar?”

In the TVC, the producer then schemes with Rannvijay to help them get their trademark hostility back. He hides their Pepsi while they very sweetly select a contestant. When they discover their Pepsi is missing, they flip their lid and their nastiness erupts again to the delight of the producer and Rannvijay. The TVC ends with the tagline “It’s beeping awesome.”

Speaking to Indiantelevision.com, Laxman says, “When we got a call from Pepsi, we were overwhelmed and decided to be a part of the creative innovation. We decided to play around with our USP and come with something quirky and progressive and that’s how ‘What the stress’ came in.”

Adds Raghu Ram, “We are very excited to partner with Pepsi on the Crash the Pepsi IPL since it is a first of its kind property that empowers viewers to become content creators on both the TV and digital screens.”

The TVC, which was completely shot in Mumbai has been directed by Bollywood director E Niwas.  “It was made on an extremely shoestring budget as the major departments including the casts, cinematography, music were taken care of by friends who collaborated for free,” says Laxman. “Raghu and I have been in the creative space for more than 20 years and now we want to use our experience to provide creative solutions for brands, which will be interactive and modern and help them develop a strong youth connection. Creativity is evolving every day and as screens start to merge, brands will have to be more innovative and interactive. So I think creative innovations like Crash The IPL have  the potential to become a strong precedent,” he adds.

Speaking about the launch of the new TVC, PepsiCo India Beverages senior director marketing – social Ruchita Jaitley says, “This ad film by Raghu and Rajiv definitely adds more spunk to the campaign and will mobilize consumers to go vote for their favourite ad. We are overwhelmed at the kind of response Crash the Pepsi IPL has seen so far. It has been amazing to see how consumers and fans have taken on the creative challenge and shown their love for the brand. This is an all-important phase for the campaign, as we now hand over the reins to the consumers. India will now decide the next winner of this campaign and we’re keen and excited to see how this will play out.”

  • Seven boys and girls will ride for respect on MTV Hero Roadies X1

Seven boys and girls will ride for respect on MTV Hero Roadies X1

MUMBAI: MTV Hero Roadies is back with a new ripping format in its ‘X-series’. ‘No vote outs, only performance can get you to win’. This is the mantra for MTV Hero Roadies X1.

It dons a brand new avatar that salutes those who believe the only thing its worth fighting for is respect. And, this season seven boys and seven girls fight it out on equal grounds in an ultimate ride to win respect.

This year, Roadies is auditioning for equal number of boys and girls who would rough it up on even grounds to be the last Roadie standing. This season champions the youth sentiment that being brave and standing against odds is better than being the bully.

The format will reward performance over petty politics. This year, there will be no vote outs, no shortcuts and no alliances. The winner will be decided purely on basis of merit in performance on tasks. This twist in the format reflects the state of mind of young India. Confident, ambitious and street smart.

Starting 17 November, the hunt for the Roadie of the year will kick off through a grueling four-city audition. The epitome of sportsman spirit – Rannvijay, and the mentor of the format- Raghu, will handpick seven boys and seven girls across the four cities. The show will give an equal chance to both the genders to prove their merit and win the title of Roadies. The first stop for the auditions will be Delhi, followed by Chandigarh, Pune and Ahmedabad.

Speaking about the new season, Rannvijay the host of the show and first ever winner of MTV Hero Roadies says: “In the past 10 years, I have seen numerous contestants come to the show with a game plan in mind. Many a times, contestants have gone far on the show on the basis of their mind games and strategy, rather than performance. But now, all that is a thing of the past. For the first time on Roadies, a winner will be selected only on their performance in every task. It definitely is going to be one exciting journey.”

MTV Hero Roadies the returning judge and mentor Raghu Ram says: “The past 10 years has seen Roadies enjoy the top position when it comes to youth based reality shows. With the onset of season XI of Roadies we want to turn the concept around. This time the battle is solely for respect. The eliminations will also be purely performance based while there will be no place for politics. Like they say- let the best man win!”
MTV India EVP and business head Aditya Swamy explains: “India’s longest running reality show is back with a format that reflects the mood of young India. On one hand, there is the demand for equal rights, on the other the ambition to succeed but only by playing fair. The theme of this season – ‘Ride for Respect’ gives the participants an equal chance. And no vote outs. All that matters is performance.”

  • Reliance Netconnect’s campaign has Anoushka & Rannvijay as brand ambassadors

NEW DELHI: Reliance Communications, which claims a wireless broadband in over 1,300 towns, announced the launch of a new marketing initiative for its latest unique offering, the ‘My Best Plan’.

The ‘My Best Plan‘ is based on the consumer insight that most internet data dongle users have to pre-determine their data usage and confine themselves to a fixed data usage plan. In fact they have to ensure that their usage is within the limits of the plan to avoid paying high over usage charges. Despite this, most users have gone through ‘Bill Shocks’ at some point, where they’ve had to pay exorbitant overage charges, in other cases most people don’t end up using the data limit they’ve signed up for.

To address this ongoing consumer dilemma, Reliance Netconnect introduced the ‘My Best Plan’. As the title suggests, it’s a data plan that automatically adjusts itself to generate the lowest bill every month. This eliminates bill shocks & also takes away the hassle of choosing the right data plan basis a customer’s usage.

The ‘My Best Plan’ TVC featuring Anoushka Sharma and Rannvijay went on air on 6 June. Through a fun, engaging, slice of life situation, the TVC persuades the consumer to make the smarter choice by selecting the ‘My Best Plan’. The pairing has already created quite a lot of buzz through their previous campaigns and this campaign only heightens the drama & the chemistry between the two of them.

Reliance Communications Limited Group Head – Brand & Marketing Sanjay Behl said, “In line with our customer centric approach, this plan not only takes away the restrictions which internet users have had to contend with, it’s also another step towards enabling growth of data consumption in India. We already provide superfast broadband speeds in more than 1300 towns in the country & this initiative ensures that we continue to deliver superior value to our customers.”

The campaign has been conceptualised by Grey India and has been directed by Shoojit Sircar, a well known ad film maker whose directorial venture of 2012 – Vicky Donor was a runaway success at the box office.

The integrated campaign leverages key mediums like Television, Digital, Cinema, BTL, etc: and will be complimented by a first of its kind app on Facebook.
