    UTV to release Arjun: The Warrior Prince on 25 May

    MUMBAI: UTV Motion Pictures is set to release Disney’s animated film Arjun: The Warrior Prince on 25 May.

    According to director Arnab Chaudhuri, since it was an animation film it took time to complete. “We took three years to make this film. We were waiting for the perfect summer period and I believe this is the right time for the release,” he said.

    Arjun: The Warrior Prince is an action-based animation film. “I wanted to make an action film mixed with animation. This subject was the perfect one. It is a big martial arts epic made on a big scale,”observed Chaudhuri.

    Incidentally, Ranbir Kapoor has lent his voice to the film. He has narrated the sloka ‘Yada yada hi dharmasya’ in the end credits of the film.

    MUMBAI: In a bid to leverage the Indian Premier League advantage, associated sponsors on the wireless broadband category, Tata Docomo Photon has launched its latest ad campaign with a new TVC.

    An official communiqué from the brand calls this campaign its biggest marketing initiative of the year. It will focus on covering two business critical pillars – GSM Prepay and HSIA data. The campaign will be centred on communicating Tata Docomo Photon Max‘s victory at the Product of the Year Awards and through this position it as the best internet experience.

    On the GSM Prepay voice side, the campaign aims to refresh consumer memories of the core differentiators of Tata DOCOMO – pay per second always and fair treatment of customers and the absence of hidden costs.

    As part of the campaign the brand released a TVC wherein its 29-year old brand ambassador Ranbir Kapoor is seen in the guise of a 59 year old.

    MUMBAI: Pepsi recently announced the launch of its first ever football themed campaign in India with a new ad film featuring Ranbir Kapoor. The brand takes the campaign forward with a football league format – Pepsi T20 Football.

    Pepsi T20 Football is a new format for amateurs, which combines T20 style of playing with the spirit of football. Winners of this nationwide tournament will get a chance to play football the Pepsi T20 way against the Indian cricket stars and get an opportunity to be coached by an international football star.

    PepsiCo India category director – colas, hydration and mango based beverages Homi Battiwalla said, “Pepsi T20 Football tournament takes forward the philosophy of ‘Change the Game‘ by taking football outside the conventional domain and giving it a refreshing twist. It is a unique grassroots initiative mounted at a never before scale in India that aims to take the excitement around the sport to the next level. With the involvement of Indian cricketers, Bollywood and an international football star; the campaign promises to excite and engage not only the existing passionate football fans but the entire nation.”

    Actor Ranbir Kapoor said, “Being a football enthusiast I am glad that Pepsi is taking this initiative to popularise the sport amongst the youth of our country. I am proud to be associated with it and confident that Youngistaan will enjoy the new Pepsi T20 Football format”.

    To be a part of the Pepsi T20 Football campaign, amateur footballers between the age of 14 and 30 years can register in 7-member teams at designated venues. Open to all Indians, on ground registrations and matches will be organized across major Indian cities including Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Mumbai, Lucknow, Ludhiana and Delhi. The registration process begins with Chennai on 14th March and tournament will continue till June. 64 teams from each city will compete in knock-out style 20-minute matches and the top 32 will compete in the respective city finales. The city finale will be organized in a unique metallic cage at a public venue with lots of music, fun and Pepsi. A total of 8 teams, including 1 winning team from each city and 1 wild card entry will compete to emerge as ‘Game Changers‘. They will then get the opportunity to be coached by an international football star before they face the Cricket Stars at the Grand Finale.

    The tournament will be supported by a 360-degree approach including on-air, outdoor & on-ground initiatives; special edition packaging and digital engagement programmes. Pepsi has partnered with ESPN Star Sports, who will produce and showcase the tournament in a special 8-episode series, starting April 2012.

    MUMBAI: On the occasion of his completing 25 years in the Hindi film industry, Sajid Nadiawala has decided to launch six more ventures shortly.

    The films will start with the Salman Khan starrer Kick, followed by a Sabbir Khan directed film with Shahid Kapoor, Imtiaz Ali‘s next with Hrithik Roshan, Judwaa 2 with Saif Ali Khan, the adaptation of Chetan Bhagat‘s 2 States with Ranbir Kapoor and the soon to release Housefull 2.

    Nadiawala used to work as an assistant to his uncle. He worked on films like Gulaami, Hathyar and Main Azaad Hoon. In 1987, he became the member of IMPPA (Indian Motion Pictures Producers‘ Association).

    “Akshay (Kumar) was my school friend. We used to go to Don Bosco. So, I made a film with him and Suniel Shetty titled Waqt Hamaara Hai. It was a hit. After that there was no looking back,” Nadiawala was quoted in media reports.

    Interestingly, on the occasion of his 21 birthday on 18 February 1987, Nadiadwala launched his production banner Nadiadwala Grandson.

    NEW DELHI: Thespian Aruna Irani who has achieved fame as an item girl, heroine, vamp a comedienne, and a producer-director, received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 57th Filmfare Awards held in Mumbai.

    ‘Zindagi na milegi Dobara‘ won the best film award and its director Zoya Akhtar was named best director with her brother Farhan Akhtar bagging the best supporting actor award for males in the popular awards. The film was also voted best film by the Critics Jury.

    ‘Rockstar‘ by Imtiaz Ali bagged awards for actor Ranbir Kapoor in both the popular and critics categories. This year‘s Idea Filmfare Awards held a special significance as the 2500th trophy was presented at the award ceremony, to maestro AR Rahman for ‘Rockstar‘. Irshad Kamil also bagged the best lyric award for the song ‘Nadaan Parinday‘ and Mohit Chauhan won it for singing the song ‘Jo bhi mein‘ in this film.

    Vidya Balan got the best actress award for essaying the role of Silk Smitha in the film ‘The Dirty Picture‘, while ‘No one killed Jessica‘ won awards for supporting actor (female) for Rani Mukerji.

    ‘The Dirty Picture‘ also got awards for best costume for Niharika Khan, and Idea Sony Scene of the Year.

    ‘Delhi Belly‘ got awards for best debutante Director Abhinay Deo, art direction for Shashank Tere, editing for Huzefa Lokhandawala, and best screenplay for Akshat Verma.

    ‘Don 2‘ won awards for best sound design for Nakul Kamte, best action to Action Concepts, and Best Special Effects to Red Chillies VFX.

    ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara‘ also got the cinematography award for Carlos Catalon, the choreography award for Bosco Caesar, and best dialogue to Farhan Akhtar.

    Best debutante male and female awards went to Vidyut Jamal for ‘Force‘ and Parineeti Chopra for ‘Ladies vs Ricky Bahl‘.

    The RD Burman award for Upcoming talent in field of music went to KRSNA for ‘Tanu Weds Manu‘ while the best background score went to Ranjit Barot for ‘Shaitan‘.

    Sanjay Chouhan got the best story award for ‘I am Kalam‘, while the Special Jury Certificate for Outstanding Talent went to Partho Gupte for the film ‘Stanley ka Dabba‘.

    The Idea Filmfare Awards 2011 held at the Reliance MediaWorks Studios in the Film City in Goregoan. The Awards ceremony was hosted by Shahrukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor, and the recording will be telecast on Sony Entertainment Television on 19 February.

    MUMBAI: The Film and Television Producers Guild of India-sponsored Apsara Awards picked up Ranbir Kapoor and Vidya Balan as best actors for their performance in Rockstar and The Dirty Picture respectively (male and female) at the star-studded seventh edition of Chevrolet Apsara Awards.

    While the best film award went to Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Zoya Akhtar was acclaimed the best director for the film and Farhan Akhtar took home the best supporting actor award for the same film.

    The best supporting actress award went to Parineeti (Priyanka Chopra’s cousin) for her portrayal as a spoilt Delhi girl in Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl. She also bagged the best debutant (female) award. On the other hand, the best debutant (male) award was lapped up by south actor Rana Daggubati for his maiden film Dum Maro Dum.

    While Mohit Chauhan walked away with the best singer (male) award for the song Sadda haq from Rockstar, Shreya Ghoshal took the honour in the female category for her rendition of Teri meri from Bodyguard.

    A highlight of the awards ceremony, the Guild kick-started the celebrations of 100 years of Indian cinema wherein they were to honour veterans. Rajesh Khanna, Vinod Khanna, Zeenat Aman and Jaya Bachchan came up to the stage to collect the same while others were absent.

    MUMBAI: Sajid Nadiadwala has plans to develop an entire Judwaa franchise, with every subsequent chapter featuring a different leading man.

    Confirming the news Nadiadwala said, ” I will indeed be making a series of Judwaa films. But the whole idea is to have different actors playing double roles every time. Like after Salman in Judwaa, it is Saif in Judwaa 2. Similarly, I will have an actor who havsn‘t played double roles before in Judwaa 3 and so on.”

    Word is going around that Ranbir Kapoor has agreed to play the lead in Judwaa 3.

    Explaining as to why did he take so long to come up with the sequel of the Salman Khan-starrer, Nadiadwala said, “”After Judwaa, I waited for a long time for the same Salman-David Dhawan team to come up with a winning sequel. That was a tactical error and the franchise got stuck in a creative deadlock until Sajid decided he would carry the ‘Judwaa’ concept forward.”

    Sajid Khan will direct Judwaa 2 that is expected to go on the floors later this year.

    MUMBAI: After months of keeping the industry in suspense, producers Vikas Bahl and Anurag Kashyap have signed Ranveer Singh to play the lead role in the Hindi remake of the 2009 Telugu hit Magadheera.

    With his signing, Singh has edged out Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor, the names of whom that were constantly doing the rounds.

    Confirming the same, Bahl said, “Magadheera is a passion project for us, and we are excited to have the rights to re-create this magical piece of work. Ranveer is the best thing that could have happened to it.
     
    He has all the ingredients to be a passionate lover, a warrior and an entertainer, all at the same time. All the fans of Magadheera are coming together to recreate its magic with the support of Allu Arvind, the producer of the original film.”

    Magadheera is a historic love story. Set against the backdrop of 17th century India, the film is said to have an estimated budget of Rs 50 crore.

    Preparing for the role, Singh will undergo intense physical training. He will also interact with Ram Charan, who played the lead in the original, to get some valueable inputs.

    MUMBAI: UTV Motion Pictures has announced that their Anurag Basu-directed film Barfi! will release on 13 July.

    Barfi! is the story of a cute and shrewd young man whom the girls love while the cops hate him. He can’t speak but is always talked about. His naughty antics will make you scream but he will never listen because he is deaf. Barfi! is all set to usher the Chalu Chaplin of India.

    Barfi! stars Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileyana in the lead. The film music is composed by Pritam.

    UTV has a slate of films lined up this year that include Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, Barfi!, Rowdy Rathore, Heroine, Joker and many more.

    Kishore Kumar family green lights his biopic

    MUMBAI: After he met the family of Kishore Kumar recently, Anurag Basu has got the green signal to roll out the biopic of the legendary singer. The film was lying in the cold storage for three months.

    Confirming the same Basu said, “They have green lighted the film after they liked the idea of me doing the film.”

    Last month, Basu met the singer‘s family – wife Leena Chandarvarkar and his two sons, singer Amit Kumar and Sumeet Kumar – to discuss the project. Titled Kishore, the film is now finally on track.

    While Ranbir Kapoor will play Kishore Kumar in the film titled Kishore, Amit Kumar will not only sing his father‘s songs but also play a cameo.

    It is understood that Basu would take up the Kishore Kumar project first and then proceed with his next project about mathematician Anand Kumar who made a name for himself after he made use of his knowledge by taking it to the grassroots of Bihar.
