    UAE to play host to second edition of SIIM Awards

    NEW DELHI: The second South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) is to be held at the Sharjah Expo Centre on 12 and 13 September this year.

    Actress Shriya Saran, along with Rana Daggubati and Arya, announced at a press meet in Dubai that shortlisting of the best films of all South Indian languages – Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada – was in progress.

    SIIMA has been instituted with the aim of creating a global platform for the South Indian film industry which releases over 500 films in a year and is one of the largest in the world.

    SIIMA founder and MD Vishnuvardhan Induri said: “SIIMA is a platform for South Indian Film industries to showcase their cinema to the world, SIIMA will travel to a different country every year and it will be a great platform for south Indian films to market and publicise their movies.”

    Arya, Indian Tamil actor and co-host at SIIMA, said: “I am very excited to be a part of a function where South Indian cinema is presented on a global platform.”

    The awards ceremony will be spread over two days. Day one will comprise the ‘Generation Next Awards Night’, and will be hosted by former Miss India World and actress Parvathy Omanakuttan, and co-hosted by stand-up comedian Ash Chandler. The ‘Popular Awards’ will be held on day two, and will be co-hosted by Arya, Shriya Saran, Rana Daggubati and Sonu Sood.

    Shriya Saran, co-host at SIIMA said, “I am very excited to be a part of SIIMA. I had started my career with South Indian films so this industry is very close to my heart. I am really thrilled that I am co-hosting this prestigious award function and will be sharing the platform with three handsome co-anchors.”

    The prestigious panel of experts at SIIMA have chosen the nominees of the awards, and the winners will be chosen by an online voting system.

    Rana Daggubati, Indian actor and co-host at SIIMA said: “I am really looking forward to being with a room full of attractive, admired and extremely successful people from the South Indian film industry that are being honored for their artistic contribution. As the host, it will be a pleasure to ensure that amongst all the cheer, the stars have a good time, are thoroughly entertained, and cherish their moment of praise.”

    The awards night will be packed with breath-taking acts and performances by some of the biggest stars in South Indian cinema.

    Rana Daggubati goes international with ‘A Momentary Lapse Of Reason’

    MUMBAI: South hero Rana Daggubati will shortly make his debut in international cinema with Aditya Bhattacharya’s A Momentary Lapse Of Reason, being produced by Asif Noor, Aditya Bhattacharya and SunitaTati under the banner of Hyderabad-based Guru Films.

    Raakh is the story of a young man, who, after witnessing the public humiliation and abuse of a female friend, vows to avenge her by going after the hoodlums.

    Said Bhattacharya, “Rana perfectly fits the role as the scion of a wealthy Hyderabad Industrialist with real-estate ambitions in Los Angeles, who gets brutally sucked into that city‘s underbelly, setting off a chain of events that sucks him into a vortex of violence till he finds an unlikely ally and mentor in an over-the-hill LA Cop and the game changes.”

    Though the cast of the film hasn‘t been disclosed yet, it will have an ensemble of Hollywood A-listers.

    Daggubati, who shot to fame in Bollywood with Dum Maaro Dum, will soon be seen in Ram Gopal Varma‘s Department.

    AVM Productions and Spirit Nipuna form JV

    BANGALORE: AVM Productions and Spirit Media (subsidiary of Suresh Productions and Rama Naidu Studios) have announced a Joint Venture (JV) to create an advanced state-of-the-art film processing, Digital Intermediate (DI) and Visual Effects facility in Chennai.

    The new JV will kick off with 50 world-class visual effects professionals and technicians, and will double its numbers by the end of the year 2006. The team would operate out of AVM Studios, which has state-of-the-art infrastructure and will also install top-of-the-line equipment for Visual Effects, DI and Film Processing, informs an official release.

    This JV would also bring in first-of-its-kind the “Kodak-kit chemistry negative processing technology” imported from New Zealand. For the first time in the country, film makers would benefit from the high quality Kodak film and negative processing experience.

    “We are delighted to form a JV with the Spirit-Nipuna team, which will bring immense value to the film making industry. Our joint experience with 50,000 man years in film making will surely boost the technical composition to Digital standards.. This partnership will definitely set new standards film making,” says AVM Productions managing partner MS Guhan.

    Spirit-Nipuna has successfully completed their first Tamil project AVM’s ‘Tirupati’ an Ajith starrer, which has been released today. Spirit-Nipuna bagged this project against stiff competition from existing post production facilities in India, the release adds.
