Krrish 3 continues its strong run; others struggle to make a mark

MUMBAI: Sunny Deol’s action film, Singh Saab The Great is old wine in a plastic bottle. With so much use of Punjabi language, it could well have been a Punjabi film due to which it loses out on patronage in South and East India while limiting it in other parts. The film’s appeal is only limited to single screens. The movie collected Rs 14.2 crore for its opening weekend which is not very encouraging.

Gori Tere Pyar Mein – the second flick featuring Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan together – has failed to attract the audience from day one and failing to improve even on Saturday and Sunday. A poorly conceived and executed film, it draws neither youth nor the compulsive moviegoer. The film has managed a poor Rs 7.8 crore for its opening weekend.

Goliyon Ki Rasleela: Ram-Leela crossed one more hurdle in UP as there were objections to the film’s title by certain people following which a court had stopped its screening in the state of UP. There were no shows on Friday and Saturday (22 and 23 November) in UP. The producer gave the film a new title, G-K.R.R, for UP and availed of the Censor Certificate following which the screening resumed from Sunday (24 November) onwards. The film has collected Rs 69.7 crore for its first week.

Rajjo has proved to be a futile exercise with the film barley managing to collect Rs 1.65 crore in its first week.
Krrish 3 has added Rs 8.5 crore for its third week taking its three week total to Rs 171.8 crore.

Ram-Leela gets a lukewarm response, Krissh 3 continues to woo audience at BO

MUMBAI: Alexandra Cinema near Mumbai Central station had a patronage of English movie lovers who did not know English nor was it an era of dubbing English movies. To attract the audience, the cinema management gave all films it released its own version of Hindi titles. Mara Maari Chumma Chati was the title given to the 1966 movie Kiss Kiss Kill Kill (the other examples are Hurr Hurr Darwaza Khula for Horror Of Dracula; Kabhi Garam Garam Kabhi Naram Naram for Blow Hot, Blow Cold). That Mara Maari….. aptly describes Ram-Leela for that is what it is all about; there is no third dimension to the film.

The film released under protests and threats not even opening at some major centres of Gujarat on day one. While the film found an indifferent response at single screens, on the strength of its business at multiplexes, the film has collected a little over Rs 48 crore for its opening weekend. Monday, however, saw a noticeable drop to 50 per cent of its first Saturday business. It is a high priced product and this drop does not augur well for the film.

Rajjo with its unimpressive storyline went unnoticed and failed to find any takers.
Krrish 3 has done a decent second week with no real opposition to share the box office; especially in its second weekend, the collections tapering down thereafter. It collected Rs 43.3 crore taking its two week total to Rs 163.3 crore.

Satya 2 has fared poorly. The film has collected Rs 1.8 crore in its first week.

Kangna’s ‘Rajjo’ set to release with ‘Ramleela’

Mumbai: The most talked about musical dramas are now set to clash. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Ram Leela‘, the promo of which has already been unveiled was set to enjoy a solo release in the coming festive season. However, now Kangna Ranaut starrer ‘Rajjo’ is too releasing on the same date.

On the clash of dates, makers of Rajjo says,“ However once the final cut of the ‘Rajjo‘ was seen by people concerned, there was an added sense of confidence. It was felt that the originally decided date would be just right to set the stage for ‘Rajjo‘ v/s ‘Leela‘,”.

With so much effort put in to make delightful film the director of ‘Rajjo’ Vishwas Patil says: “I was waiting for an apt time to bring the film. Even though the main character Kangna (or Rajjo) plays a Mujra wali in the film, it isn‘t somber or depressing by any means”.

The release date of a film was decided as 15 November after a lot of brain storming. ‘Rajjo’ would incidentally be arriving just 12 days after the release of ‘Krrish 3‘ (3rd November) in which Kangna would be seen kicking butt.

About the film Kangna seem confident, she says “‘Rajjo‘ is really close to my heart and I am glad it is being released this festive season. As for competition with other films, there would be one every week in any case. I am sure my producers are taking a good call and it comes from the trust and confidence they have in the product. I am particularly proud of the film and my work. The film is special and it will fetch an audience of it‘s own. I strongly believe in director Vishwas Patil and music director Uttam Singh. Once you see the promos, which would be out very soon, you would know what I mean.” There is no doubt that the actress has put in a tremendous about of hard work into the film, lets hope in works in her favour.

Rajjo is produced by Four Pillar Films starring Kangana Ranaut, Paras Arora, Prakash Raj, Mahesh Manjrekar and Jaya Prada.
