    SPNI renews exclusive UFC broadcast rights in Indian subcontinent

    Mumbai: Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI), the leading sports broadcaster in the Indian subcontinent, has announced the extension of the exclusive broadcast rights for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka for five years. The terms of the agreement include exclusive television and digital media rights for a wide range of UFC events through 2028.

    The premier promotion for Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) worldwide, UFC caters to a massive global audience. UFC is renowned for its top-class fights along with talented fighters and is a dream platform for fighters across the world to showcase their MMA skills. UFC features many of the world’s greatest fighters, including Israel Adesanya, Leon Edwards, Jon Jones, Islam Makhachev, Sean O’Malley, Alex Pereira, and Alexander Volkanovski. Some of the best up-and-coming fighters in UFC are coming out of Eurasia, which has a rapidly expanding fan base for the sport. And with the UFC roster inclusion of Anshul Jubli, the first fighter from India to receive win a UFC contract via winning the tournament for Asia’s best MMA prospects, ROAD TO UFC, and Puja Tomar, the first India-born female fighter, the timing could not have been better to make headway in the Indian subcontinent.

    Effective 1 January 2024, the agreement solidifies SPNI’s commitment to delivering premium UFC content to fans across the region on Sony Sports Network and SonyLiv. The comprehensive rights package includes exclusive coverage of 42 UFC LIVE events, encompassing 12 pay-per-view (PPV) and 30 fight night events each year featuring both Main Card and Preliminary bouts, along with additional content that includes UFC Countdown, UFC Connected, a variety of archive content, and Dana White’s Contender Series, a 10-episode live fight series which features up-and-coming talent trying to secure a contract with UFC .

    In addition to live events, Sony Sports Network will continue to broadcast live in Asia prime time the ground-breaking “win and advance” tournament for Asia’s top MMA prospects, ROAD TO UFC. Sony Sports Network will also have access to archive content that will further enable them to engage audiences with the rich history of the sport.

    Mumbai: WWE Superstar Braun Strowman, known as the ‘Monster of all Monsters’, completed a successful four-day promotional tour in India starting with a meet and greet with Rajesh Kaul, chief revenue officer of distribution and International business and head of sports Business. The meeting was followed by interactive sessions with the employees of Sony Pictures Networks India as well as the filming of a special episode of Sony Sports Network’s flagship studio show, WWE Super Dhamaal in Mumbai.

    WWE Superstar Braun Strowman also visited four key distributors in the industry – DEN, HATHWAY, AIRTEL, and DISH TV during his four-day India tour. The WWE Superstar met over 1500 employees across the trade distribution engagements that helped to forge deeper connections with the attendees.

    During his time in Mumbai, Braun Strowman also met popular Indian cricketer Venkatesh Iyer, who has been a fan of WWE since his childhood. The destructive batting all-rounder and the WWE Superstar who is known for his destruction in the ring, bonded well as they discussed catchphrases and lingos from their respective fields followed by a small cricket session. Furthermore, Strowman also met with India’s Got Talent Season 9 winner Divyansh Kacholia aka DVK who performed a special beatbox segment which left the ‘Monster’ amazed.

    Season five of Tennis Premier League to air on Sony Sports Network

    Mumbai: After the immense success and closely fought battles in the first four seasons of the Tennis Premier League (TPL), India’s Premier tennis tournament is set for a fifth season, which is slated to begin on 12 December, with a grand finale scheduled for 17 December 2023. The fifth season of the Tennis Premier League, powered by Clear, is determined to cater to a larger audience on Sony Sports Network, the broadcast destination for the league.    

    The following for tennis in India has been growing steadily, and fans have another chance to witness their favourite tennis stars at the fifth edition of the TPL, live in action on Sony Sports Ten 2 channels.

    Pune Jaguars, Mumbai Leon Army, Delhi Binny’s Brigade, Gujarat Panthers, Punjab Tigers, Bengal Wizards, Hyderabad Strikers and Bengaluru Spartans are the teams in the fray, with prominent personalities such as Taapsee Pannu, Sonu Sood, Sonali Bendre, Rakul Preet Singh, Leander Paes and Sania Mirza associated with them.    

    Top Indian tennis talents such as Sumit Nagal, will play for the Gujarat Panthers after the current AITA number one was made the most expensive player at the auction by the franchise. Alongside Nagal, Hangzhou Asian Games silver medal-winning duo Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni will also feature in season five of TPL, as they will play for Bengaluru SG Mavericks and Hyderabad Strikers respectively. While Asian Games 2023 Gold Medallist, Rutuja Bhosale will don the colours of Pune Jaguars in season five of the TPL.  

    Along with them, foreign tennis athletes like former World No. 10 Ernests Gulbis and former World No. 26 Lukas Rosol, will feature for Mumbai Leon Army and Pune Jaguars respectively in the upcoming season. Additionally, current World No. 125 Maria Timofeeva was snapped up by Leander Paes-backed Bengal Wizards at the auction and the highest-ranked Austrian Tennis player in the world Dennis Novak will lead the charge for Delhi Binny’s Brigade in season five of the league.

    All the franchises will play a total of match matches to qualify for the semi-finals as the league’s revolutionary format captures the imagination of tennis fans. All matches between the two franchises will comprise Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Mixed Doubles and Men’s Doubles. There will be 80 points at stake in each tie between two franchises, where each category would be worth 20 points. Each team will play a total of 400 points (80 points x 5 matches) at the league stage. All games of the TPL will be played in the Balewadi Stadium in Pune.

    Mumbai: Hockey fans get another chance to watch the Asian Games Bronze Medalist Women’s Hockey team in action as the leading sports broadcaster, Sony Sports Network, is the official broadcaster and Sony LIV is the official streaming partner of the Jharkhand Women’s Asian Champions Trophy to be held in Ranchi from 27 October 2023 to 5 November 2023.

    The continental tournament will feature India alongside Japan, China, Malaysia, Korea and Thailand and will entail a total of 20 matches. The tournament will start with a match between Japan and Malaysia on 27 October 2023, from 4:00 pm IST onward while the Indian Women’s Hockey Team under the able leadership of Captain Savita and her deputy Deep Grace Ekka will play their first game against Thailand on 27 October 2023, from 8:30 PM IST onward. With Asian Games Gold medalist China also in the fray, the Indian team will vie for a stronger show in their backyard and lift the trophy for the first time since 2016.

    Mumbai: WWE today returns to Indian shores with a live event for the first time since 2017 with WWE Superstar Spectacle at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad.

    WWE Superstar Spectacle also marks the return of arguably the biggest WWE Superstar of his generation, John Cena, who has come to India to perform for the first time ever.     Mumbai: Rugby fans in India can now watch the high-octane action of the Rugby World Cup 2023 live on Sony Sports Network, the official television broadcaster for the most prestigious quadrennial rugby tournament. The tournament will be available to television viewers across Sony Sports Ten 1, Sony Sports Ten 2 and Sony Sports Ten 5 channels in India.  

    The Rugby World Cup is being hosted in France for the second time in its history and the matches will be played across nine venues in the country with Paris hosting the final at the Stade de France. The first game from the storied tournament will see hosts France take on the most successful nation in the tournament, New Zealand in a highly anticipated game.

    The Rugby World Cup sees participation from the top rugby union national teams in the world. Held every four years, the 2023 edition of the Rugby World Cup is the tenth edition of the tournament and will see 20-teams compete against each other in France for the coveted trophy.     Sony Pictures Networks bags India-Bangladesh tour rights 

    Mumbai: Sony Pictures Networks (SPN) has secured exclusive television rights to broadcast the India-Bangladesh tour. Sports fans can watch the inning live on Sony Sports Ten 5, Sony Sports Ten 3, and Sony Sports Ten 4, which are exclusive to the Indian territory.

    The Indian cricket team will visit Bangladesh beginning 4 December led by Rohit Sharma and vice captain KL Rahul. Star players such as Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, and Mohammed Shami will also be part of team India’s lineup.

    Fans will be hoping for an all-round performance from Ravindra Jadeja as he prepares to return to the field after a knee injury. This series will be India’s final before facing Sri Lanka in January 2023, consisting of three one-day internationals and two tests.

    The series will add to Sony Sports Network’s nonstop cricket coverage, and the broadcaster will be hoping for India to continue its international success.
