    Aditya Narayan transitions from Disney Star India to JioStar as regional sales head

    MUMBAI: He’s got a premium job at JioStar. Aditya Narayan has just transitioned from Disney Star India  to the Uday Shankar-headed behemoth continuing with his earlier designation as regional sales head.

    At Disney Star India,  Aditya  spearheaded sales strategies for over three and a half years. His tenure there was marked by remarkable success in developing key partnerships and driving sales across multiple domains. At JioStar he has been charged with  integrated selling and raising revenue for premium sports  from the south. 

    Aditya’s professional journey also includes significant contributions at ByteDance India, where he led monetisation efforts, and Rajasthan Patrika, where he helmed business operations for Patrika TV. Notably, he  played a pivotal role in launching the Magicbricks Now channel during his time at the Times Network, showcasing his ability to lead large-scale projects with finesse. Following Times Network, he did short stints with Network18 and BTVI. 

    Throughout his career, Aditya has built a reputation for strategic thinking, interpersonal communication, and his ability to adapt to dynamic market conditions. His hands-on approach and visionary mindset have consistently delivered exceptional results, making him a trusted leader in the sales domain.

    In the early part of his career, Aditya spent almost four years working  in sales for FM radio stations beginning with Radio Mirchi (a year), followed by  Radio City (a  year nine months)  and then with RadiOne (a year and five months).

    As he steps into his new role at JioStar, Aditya is poised to bring his experience to the table, leveraging his deep understanding of the premium sports market to drive regional sales growth.

    Adaptability in Action: Day 2 highlights from Goafest 2024

    Mumbai: The second half of Day 2 had yet another Knowledge Seminar in store, presented by Rajasthan Patrika, titled A Story Of Adaptability: From the Silver Screen to the Mobile Screen with Zeenat Aman, Indian Film Actress and Moderator, RJ Anmol. The audience was treated to an insightful journey through the evolution of storytelling in the digital age, as Aman shared her experiences of transitioning from the silver screen to the mobile screen. Anmol posed a question to Zeenat Aman, recalling a time when no one was willing to play Dev Anand’s sister. He asked how she adapted from playing Janice to playing Rupa. Zeenat responded by emphasising the importance of believing in what you do and giving it your all.

    Zeenat also reflected on her transition from the silver screen to social media. She started her social media journey a year ago, valuing her privacy after being thrust into the limelight during her heyday. “I was quite overwhelmed by the response I received on social media; it was unexpected!” she said. Notably, she achieved an engagement rate of 16.6% last year, surpassing Jennifer Aniston and Kareena Kapoor Khan. Zeenat also stressed the importance of honesty and being forthcoming. She spoke about the relevance of sharing thoughts and experiences that resonate with the times, noting that people appreciate listening to genuine stories. The session offered invaluable insights into the art of adaptability in the ever-changing entertainment landscape.

    Following the Fireside Chat, the next Knowledge Seminar was presented by News 18 Network, titled Marketing Adaptability: Blending Traditional And New-Age Marketing For Brand Success, featuring a distinguished panel of industry specialists. Among the esteemed speakers were Chandan Mukherjee, Director & Executive Vice President at Nestle; Shubhranshu Singh, Chief Marketing Officer of Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles; Sukhleen Aneja, Chief Executive Officer of The Good Glamm Group; Sandeep Karwa, Vice President, Monetization at Flipkart; and Zairus Master, Chief Business Officer at Honasa Consumer Ltd. Conducting the discussion was Delshad Irani, Editor of Storyboard 18.

    Zairus, through this conversation, addressed the prevalent issue of emerging brands being overly fixated on short-term goals, long-term goals and the apparent divide, stressing the importance of balancing short-term and long-term objectives. He emphasised the overarching goal of building brands and the necessity of acting swiftly to achieve business growth. “There is only one objective and action which is to create business,” he affirmed. Thereafter, Chandan underscored the importance of fundamental principles, such as understanding consumers and the brand and utilising various integrations to achieve objectives. He noted the evolving nature of brands in today’s dynamic landscape, highlighting their ability to redefine and stretch boundaries. Chandan also touched upon the rapid digital penetration and technological advancements, urging against drawing distinctions between traditional and modern approaches. Sukhleen, while addressing the audience said, “Fundamentally, if we have to grow, we have to keep adapting and manage the pace of change, while keeping our humility in check.”

    In this informative session, the panel delved into the fusion of traditional and new-age marketing strategies for brand success. With a focus on adaptability in an ever-evolving market landscape, the speakers shared their insights on blending time-tested marketing approaches with innovative techniques to stay ahead of the curve. From leveraging digital platforms to harnessing the power of storytelling, the session provided attendees with actionable strategies to navigate the complexities of modern marketing and drive meaningful impact for their brands.

    It was then time to rock and roll with Advertising Rocks!; presented by Mastiii and powered by MIQ. Advertising Rocks is a one-of-a-kind musical contest that provides a platform for numerous members of the advertising, media and marketing fraternity to showcase their talents and rock the stage. Stealing the show in first place in the Solo – Indian and Solo – International category were Nishant Patil from Logicserve Digital Pvt. Ltd., and Bodhisattwa Banerjee from VML India, respectively.

    The second half of Day 2 of Goafest 2024 began with an informative masterclass by Flipkart Ads, on the topic Flipkart IRIS: Winning the e-commerce game with deep analytics. Khushagra introduced the “new hero and friend in the market” – Flipkart IRIS (Insights and Research Intelligence System). His colleague Saksham continued the masterclass, stating that Flipkart IRIS essentially elaborates the marketing funnel, and can process petabytes of data weekly. One of its salient features is its homepage, which gives an overview of a brand’s performance, vis-à-vis leaders as well as competitors. This masterclass left the attendees with constructive insights into achieving success in the e-commerce market today with the help of Flipkart IRIS.

    Following this, a masterclass by Spotify, presented by Shraddha Shetty, provided attendees with invaluable knowledge on Unlocking Spotify: Innovation Beyond Audio, revealing that Spotify is more than just an audio platform. She highlighted its highly engaging and immersive environment, making it ideal for brand advertising. Shraddha emphasised the importance of compelling storytelling, especially given the short attention spans of audiences. She concluded by stressing the future of Spotify as a blend of sound and sight, encouraging brands to focus on imagination, human-like communication, and contextual relevance.

    The day concluded with a D&AD masterclass where Paul Drake, introduced ‘Win One, Teach One’ at the Trend Immersion Workshop, which emphasised on nurturing new talent in the creative industry through initiatives like D&AD New Blood and D&AD Shift. Notably, 270 Shifters have completed the program, with 72% now employed in creative roles across sectors. Drake explored trends like ‘Pay It Forward’, ‘Open Source Casting’, and ‘Ownable Iconicity’, highlighting the ‘Awe Economy’ and extreme responses as key drivers.  He quoted Arthur Schopenhauer on stress innovative thinking and discussed distinguishing between trends and fads, showcasing examples like Pokemon Go and Fortnite. Participants engaged in interactive activities and viewed videos like Pharrell Williams’ ‘Cash In Cash Out’ to learn about trend applications. The workshop emphasised humour, awe, and authenticity while prioritising the product. Overall, it emphasised innovative thinking and strategic foresight in navigating trends within the creative industry.

  • Brands hop on to pre-IIFA events, Rahman & Sushant join in

    MUMBAI: The enthusiasm is palpable across the world as preparations are well underway for the 18th Edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA), to be held from 13-15 July 2017 in the host city of New York. To highlight the upcoming IIFA Weekend and Awards in the Big Apple, the legendary musical genius A.R.   • IAA India collaborates with AFAA for IAA Olive Crown Awards

    MUMBAI: The India Chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA) has announced the organisation of IAA Olive Crown Awards in collaboration with the Asian Federation of Advertising Associations (AFAA).

    The event will be held on 1 April at the Shangri-la Hotel, Parel, Mumbai.

    IAA president Srinivasan K Swamy said, “These are India’s first and only awards that salute excellence in communicating sustainability. They are now acquiring the stature of a cause and I am very happy with the great acceptance they have received from all sections of the industry specially advertisers.”

    Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India Praful Patel will be the chief guest of the event.

    IAA Olive Crown Awards Committee chairman M.G. Parameswaran said, “The number of entries have registered a very satisfying increase, and the eminent jury were more than happy with their quality. We have received entries from across the Asian region and in fact some senior professionals based abroad will be flying into Mumbai to attend this prestigious awards function.”

    IAA (Asia-Pacific region) vice chairman Pradeep Guha said he was very happy that for the first time the IAA had collaborated with the Asian Federation of Advertising Associations (AFAA) in an event like this. “Such regional cooperation is the shape of things to come in the future and it is admirable that the Olive Crowns have gone pan- Asian in their third year itself,” he added.

    It is expected that the who’s who of the advertising, marketing and media industries would be present at this function.

    The event is presented by 9X Media and the Green partners for the awards are Hungama.com, Rajasthan Patrika and Panasonic India.

    IRS Q2: Top newspapers post growth

    MUMBAI: Dainik Jagran and The Times of India are holding on to their top spots as the most read publications in the Hindi and English language dailies respectively, according to the IRS (Indian Readership Survey) second-quarter report released by the Media Research Users Council (MRUC) and Hansa Research.

    Among the Hindi dailies, Dainik Jagran’s average issue readership (AIR), which had seen a drop in the previous survey, has gone up.

    The top four players have seen surge in AIR, while Rajasthan Patrika and Punjab Kesari have seen marginal fall.

    Dainik Jagran’s AIR has risen in Q2 to 16.39 million, from 15.91 million in the trailing quarter. Dainik Bhaskar (AIR of 14.17 million), Hindustan (11.98 million) and Amar Ujala (8.89 million) follow.

    Navbharat, which was pushed out of the top 10 Hindi dailies by Hari Bhoomi in previous report, has still not managed to get back.

    Among the English dailies, the Times of India continues to hold its numero uno position.

    TOI has garnered a total AIR of 7.47 million, slightly higher than the trailing quarter report (7.44 million). It is followed by Hindustan Times (AIR of 3.74 million) which also saw a marginal growth as compared to Q1. The Hindu (AIR of 2.28 million), saw a dip from AIR of 2.09 million in the Q1.

    Interestingly, The Economic Times, which was pushed to eighth place behind DNA and Mumbai Mirror in Q1, managed to outnumber Mumbai Mirror. However, it is still behind DNA.

    Meanwhile, the pecking order of the regional dailies has remained same as of Q1. Malayalam Manorama has once again topped the chart with 9.96 million AIR, up from 9.94 million in Q1.

    The list includes Lokmat (Marathi) (AIR of 7.59 million) and Daily Thanthi (Tamil) with an AIR of 7.29 million.

    MUMBAI: They were the real stars at the Sixth Indian Telly Awards Technical Nite. The production teams that sweat it out to set new standards of technical quality, the marketing whizkids and ad sales teams that work quietly behind the scenes to build up the channel and the brands around it, the programmers who brainstorm over endless cups of coffee to hit upon that one single bright idea that will get the audience to sit up and take notice.

    Indiantelevision.com, along with its partners Zee Network, Aaj Tak, CNN IBN, IBN 7, Times Now, Zee Cinema, Radio City, Bright Advertising, Rajasthan Patrika and Mid Day, Fun Cinema, CMCG India, Tellychakkar.com and AnimationXpress.com, dedicated the event to recognize and laud the efforts of all those individuals, teams and channels who made television a viewing pleasure in the past year.

    The awards event was a sparkling affair held at the St Andrew’s Auditorium in Bandra.

    In Indiantelevision founder and CEO Anil Wanvari’s words, “This is really what television is all about and it gives me great pride and satisfaction that we at Indian television have had the opportunity, for the sixth year running, to acknowledge and reward all the great work that this vibrant industry is delivering.     As for the winners, here’s how the story unfolded:

    BEST CHANNELS

    The kid’s entertainment space is getting more competitive by the day but Hungama TV managed to keep the little one’s hooked and bagged the Best Kid’s channel. Channel [V] won the best music channel award, while HBO was awarded the best English movie channel. CNBC TV18 maintained its numero uno position in the business news channel segment once again.

    The Big Idea award went to CNN IBN’s ‘Citizen Journalist’, an initiative that has allowed viewers to be part of breaking news. The best interactive show award was bagged by Cellcast’s Bid2Win while the Cable operator/ MSO (Multi Systems Operator of the year went to Hathway Cable and Datacom Pvt Ltd.

    The entertainment quotient was provided by fusion dancers Vrajesh and Kalyani who presented a unique Jazz meets Kathak performance while Pandit Ravindra Chary on sitar and Merlin rounded up the nite with some jazz, rock and blues.
