    Rainbow Media sells women’s entertainment slate to international broadcasters

    MUMBAI: Rainbow Media has announced several new sales for its Women’s Entertainment (WE tv) programming.

    London-based iD Distribution will take WE tv content into Poland, Hungary, Ukraine, The Netherlands, Australia and Brazil. In 2006, WE tv series were sold to the UK, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Turkey, Finland, Korea, the Middle East and New Zealand.

    Series planned around weddings like Platinum Weddings , Making Love Happen with Lou Paget, Katrina Weddings: A Second Chance, I Can’t Believe I Wore That and Bride vs. Bride has the most takers with Wedding TV buying a number of these series.

    New international sales were also announced for the ULTRA HD production Style Me With Rachel Hunter, which airs on Rainbow’s WE tv. Style Me was sold to Club Channel (Poland/Hungary), Kino Channel (Ukraine), Living (New Zealand) and Globosat (Brazil). In this reality-based show, 12 contestants vie for $10,000 in cash and the chance to be the next top celebrity stylist for series host Rachel Hunter.

    Rainbow Media signs deals for Mag Rack Vod content

    MUMBAI: US media firm Rainbow Media Holdings has added international broadcasters to the growing reach of its Mag Rack video-on-demand (Vod) content.

    The latest round of deals delivers several Mag Rack titles into the UK, Sweden, Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and the Middle East. Continuing Rainbow’s international expansion, the deals represent 319 VOD segments.
    Launched in 2001 in the US, Mag Rack is an on-demand television service, delivering made-for-Vod programming. Mag Rack is available to 12 million on-demand customers in 50 US markets, and several of its series were sold into Scandinavia, Hungary and Greece earlier this year.

    The newest round of international Mag Rack deals includes:

    Inside Weddings has been Sold to Wedding TV (UK), TV7 (Sweden), Club Channel (Poland & Hungary), CTC Domashy Network (Russia) and Spektrum (Czech Republic). The show has advice on everything from gowns and formal wear, flowers and photography to places to celebrate.

    Mama Gena has been sold to TV7 (Sweden) and Club Channel (Central & Eastern Europe). In this “school of womanly arts,” Mama Gena’s lessons teach women to take control of their power of pleasure to have their way with the world and men, with each episode offering new tips and techniques.

    Eight segments of Wild Wheels have been sold to TV4 (Sweden) and 24 sold to Prava/Prevodi (Bosnia & Herzegovina). This series takes viewers into a world of crazy cars—rock crawlers, aqua cars, modified stretch limos, mud/ice racers and more—for a drive on the wild side.

    Let’s Go Garden has been sold to ACE (Russia). Let’s Go Garden, hosted by Jackie Albarella. This focusses on the practical side of gardening with projects real people can achieve whether a beginning gardener or a passionate green thumb.

    Motorcycle Freedom has been sold to Ananey (Israel). These short segment programs take viewers onto the open road with a virtual ride on some of the latest superbikes.

    MUMBAI: On the heels of the luanch of the channel Vom HD launch at the recently concluded television trade eevnt in Mipcom, France Rainbow HD Holdings, a subsidiary of Rainbow Media has broadened the global channel’s reach with a new distribution agreement.

    Rainbow has tapped Zonemedia to sell the channel throughout much of Europe, Africa, the Middle East and parts of Asia.

    Voom HD offers the international marketplace a lineup of high-definition (HD) programmes selected from Voom HD Networks’ 15 thematic HD channels in the US. Its content includes signature programming from Equator HD ( places and people), Gallery HD ( stories from the art world), Gameplay HD (video gaming in HD), Rave HD, (live music in 5.1 surround sound), Rush HD (adventure sports), Treasure HD (people with a passion for collecting) and Ultra HD (fashion and luxury lifestyle).

    Rainbow Media senior VP business development Glenn Oakley says, “As we strategized the best possible distribution for Voom HD, Zonemedia emerged as a particularly solid choice because of its strong track record in successfully delivering third-party channels throughout the world. Voom HD’s vast array of quality high-definition programming has great appeal to the international marketplace, and we believe Zonemedia will exploit this to the fullest.”

    TVOOM HD is already set for a November 1 launch in Scandinavia through a deal made by distribution company NonStop Television with Canal Digital. Today’s news opens the channel for business throughout even more of the world, with carriage deals already in the works for possible announcement over the next few months.

    In addition to its impending launch in Scandinavia, three Voom branded channels have been launched in Canada, operated by High Fidelity TV: Treasure HD, Equator HD and Rush HD. Korea’s SkyHD recently deployed a daily primetime Voom HD branded programming block this past September.

    Since launching its global expansion initiative at Mipcom last year, Rainbow Media has also sold over 1,000 hours of programming from its Voom HD, WE tv, Mag Rack and sportskool brands to broadcasters around the world, including India, China, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, UK and Australia.

    CANNES: Rainbow Media Holdings and its London-based distributor iD Distribution have announced an explosion of international licensing agreements for Rainbow’s WE: Women’s Entertainment at MipTV.

    Spanning countries in four continents, these deals – which involve the signature series Daddy’s Spoiled Little Girl, Secret Lives of Women and Style Me – mark significant progress for Rainbow in its global market debut of WE.

    The news also affirms Rainbow’s success in its broader strategy to expand its brands internationally, having kicked off the effort at MipCom 2005.
    “We are obviously gratified by the terrific response we have received for our programming around the world. This is an incredible way to start what promises to be a rich pattern of global growth for the WE brand,” said Rainbow senior vice president business development Glenn Oakley.

    “WE’s high quality programming is a solid offering to broadcasters for its smart and edgy subject matter. These series have a proven entertainment value, and we are delighted at the opportunity to provide them to international audiences,” added iD Distribution managing director Sally Miles.

    The deals are as follows:

    Daddy’s Spoiled Little Girl (12 x 30’) – Sold to TV400 (Sweden), TV2 (Denmark), SBS (Belgium), Digiturk (Turkey), Sub TV (Finland), Orion Media (Korea), MBC (Middle East) and Sky Network Television (New Zealand). In this original series, WE looks at father/daughter duos who take “daddy’s little girl” to new heights. Rich or poor, these dads indulge even the most outrageous requests, including ‘faux mitzvah’ parties, $200,000 Bentley’s, private jets to Rome and shopping sprees in Paris.

    Style Me (2 x 60’ and 6 x 30’) – Sold to Kanal 5 (Sweden) and Sky Network Television (New Zealand). This reality-based show seeks to create the next top celebrity stylist for series host Rachel Hunter. Twelve contestants vie for the top spot and the chance to win $10,000 in cash plus a one-year contract with a talent agency and the opportunity to style Hunter for an A-list, red carpet event.

    Secret Lives of Women (9 x 60’) – Completed program rights only sold to TV400 (Sweden) and MBC (Middle East). This series explores the double-lives that some women lead, from plastic surgery addicts and anorexics to forensic sex investigators and shopaholics.
    Currently seen in over 58 million US homes, WE: Women’s Entertainment is the only cable network dedicated to helping women connect to one another and the world around them.
