    NEW DELHI: The delightful stories of Akbar and Birbal will be aired in an animated series on Discovery Kids from next week.

     

    The tales of famous Emperor Akbar and his trusted adviser Birbal have been passed on from generation to generation, enthralling young and old listeners alike.

     

    The series will take its viewers to the era of Mughals where they will witness amusing exchanges between Akbar and Birbal. Discovery Kids will offer children an experience to cherish for a lifetime.

     

    AKBAR & BIRBAL will start on 10 March and will air everyday at 2.00 pm only on Discovery Kids.

    Birbal, who was a minister in the court of the Mughal emperor Akbar, was considered to be one of the best loved figures in the folklore of India. He will be seen outsmarting everyone even the Emperor sometimes by his exceptional wisdom, presence of mind and his excellent problem solving skills.

     

    Birbal’s real name was Mahesh Das. It is believed that he belonged to a poor Brahmin family of Tikawanpur on the bank of the River Yamuna but it was only by virtue of his sharp intellect that he rose to be a minister at the court of Akbar.

     

    Entertainingly narrated in three languages — English, Hindi and Tamil, the series encourages smooth language development in children and also makes the experience of listening to stories more enjoyable by offering popular stories in a familiar language.

    MUMBAI: Come March and Discovery Science will entertain its audience with enthralling series like ‘Secrets of the Universe’, ‘Deadliest Space Weather’ and ‘Cosmic Safari’. Calling it a ‘Space Month’, these series will delve into the mysteries of the universe, mankind’s exploration of space and close encounters of the third kind.  

    ‘Space  Month’ aims at taking the viewers on a guided tour of the planets to explore the attractions and hazards of visiting the outlandish planets of the solar system. Beginning 1 March, these programmes will be telecast everyday at 9 PM.

     The unprecedented programme ‘Cosmic Safari’ leads viewers on a safari through the planet Earth and into the deepest regions of space.  Anchored in hard science, cinematic graphics take viewers on a tour of the universe. Viewers will also travel through space to witness evolution as scientists believe it might have occurred and meet the possible inhabitants: a walrus-like creature locked in a moon’s ice age, a giant insect that thrives in low gravity and a flying jellyfish from a planet of gas.

    Discovery channel partners Chaupal marathon in sonepat to encourage healthy living

    MUMBAI: Discovery Channelin association with Chaupal, a non-government organisation is organising the 3rdChaupal Marathon to be held on Sunday, November 17 at Sonepat, Haryana. Themarathon aims to encourage people to imbibe principles of good health and hygiene, protect the environment for better living and fight against social evils like female foeticide.

    Discovery Channel will support the initiative of Chaupal, an internationally recognised non-governmental organisation (NGO) run by health professionals (www.chaupalindia.org) to organise the Chapual Marathon. In its 3rd year, Chaupal Marathon is an effort to raise awareness amongst rural people of Haryana on various issues related to general health, hygiene and to promote wellbeing awareness. The theme of this year’s marathon is “drive carefully to secure families”, aiming to spread consciousness about road traffic accidents which are amongst the major causes of morbidities and mortalities in India, adding financial burden on the families and the health care system. In its previous year, Discovery Channel supported Chaupal Marathon on issues such as the health of the girl child, empowerment of women, and an end to female foeticide.

    The race will commence on Sunday, November 17 at 7:30 am from Murthal University (DeenBandhuChotu Ram University) and end at the Chaupal Health Center in village Banyapur, Sonepat, covering a total distance of 12 kms. Approximately ten thousand runners from North India, including national and international athletes are expected to participate in the marathon. Leading personalities like Dr.KiranBedi (IPS);Ms.Jaya Prada, Member Parliament & former actress; and Olympics wrestler Sushil Kumar are expected to participate in the marathon. A cash price of Rs. 41,000 will be awarded to the runner placing first in the open race. Many other cash awards will be given to the winners in different race categories.
