    Mirchi reports strong results for Q3-2014

    BENGALURU:  While announcing the quarterly results for Q2-2014 (last quarter), ENIL’s ED and CEO Prashant Panday had said, “The media sector witnessed a consolidation of sorts in Q2. The bigger brands have done well, while the rest languished, FM radio has again done better than all traditional media, growing at between 10-12 per cent over last year, as has Mirchi”.  

     

    The Bennett, Coleman & Co. Limited promoted Indian private FM player Entertainment Network (India) Limited (ENIL) which operates FM radio broadcasting stations through the brand Radio 

     

    Mirchi in 32 Indian cities announced 37.7 per cent growth in PAT to Rs 25.88 crore in Q3-2014 as compared to Rs 18.79 crore in the corresponding quarter of last year. This quarter’s PAT was 58.1 per cent more than the Rs 16.38 crore in Q2-2014.

     

    Over a nine month period ended 31 December 2013, ENIL reported 45.9 per cent growth in PAT to Rs 62.33 crore in Q3-2014 from Rs 42.71 crore in the corresponding nine month period of last year.  

     

    For FY 2013, ENIL reported PAT of Rs 68.32 crore. Considering the consistent good performance of the company year-on-year and the strong cash position the ENIL board of directors had recommended a maiden dividend of 10 per cent i.e. Re.1/- per equity share of Rs 10/- for FY 2013.

    Rishikar Krishna joins Radio Mirchi, again

    MUMBAI: Rishikar Krishna is all set to return to Radio Mirchi to take responsibility for its largest brand properties as its new marketing head.

    Krishna who was earlier with the company for seven years as marketing manager will now be reporting to The Indian radio network’s chief strategy officer Mahesh Shetty.

    Prior to this, he was with Skechers USA where he was responsible for creating brand awareness in India.

    In his new role, Krishna will manage the Mirchi Music Awards and Mirchi Top 20 as well as other large intellectual properties. His responsibility is to add new elements to the 32 station brand and take them to market.

    Krishna began his career with Phillips before moving into radio.

    MUMBAI: Like every year, Radio Mirchi, 98.3 FM is all set to make the 2013 edition of Airtel Delhi Half Marathon (ADHM) a memorable experience with its fun offerings. As a run up to the ADHM, Radio Mirchi inaugurated the Mirchi Get Active Expo with Kiran Bedi at the NSIC Ground Okhla today. RJ Naved was present at the expo to welcome Kiran Bedi.

    Spread across three days – December 6, 7 & 8, this year Mirchi has planned fun and engaging activities for everyone. The vivacious RJ Rohit will not only engage with the listeners and participants but will also celebrate the marathon fever in true ‘mirchi ishtyle’.

    The range of activities includes multiple Zumba sessions by Fitness First where the experts will guide runners on how to stay fit, health and fitness session from Somdeb from Rebook, running and living by Rahul Verghese, and a fun-filled Karaoke session by Manisha Gunthe.

    ENIL announces Q2-2014 middling results as compared to Q1-2014

    BENGALURU: The Bennett, Coleman & Co. Limited promoted Indian private FM player Entertainment Network (India) Limited (ENIL) which operates FM radio broadcasting stations through the brand Radio Mirchi in 32 Indian cities announced PAT of Rs 16.41 crore for Q2-2014, 17.6 per cent lower than the Rs 19.91 crore for Q1-2014, but a steep 59.3 per cent higher than the Rs 10.30 crore for the corresponding quarter of last year (Q2-2013).

     

    Standalone total revenue for ENIL for Q2-2014 was Rs 86.55 crore, about 1.5 per cent higher than the Rs 85.24 crore for Q1-2014 and 12.3 per cent higher than the Rs 77.09 crore y-o-y (Q2-2013).

     

    Last quarter (Q1-2014), ENIL announced that its shareholders had approved a dividend of 10 per cent for FY-2013.

    MUMBAI: Media Research Users Council (MRUC) at its Annual General Meeting has elected GroupM’s flagship agency, Mindshare Leader South Asia Ravi Rao as the new Chairman for 2013-14.

    On his new role, Rao said, “It is a great honour to drive the MRUC agenda collectively with some of the top professionals from the advertising, media and marketing fraternity. It is exciting times with the new avatar of IRS in the offering by end of this year.”

    ENIL (Radio Mirchi) CEO Prashant Pandey has taken over the new vice chairman’s role from Rao.

    Three new members from the publishers’ category have also been inducted into the 24-member Board of Governors. They are: HT Media executive director Benoy Roy Chowdhury; The Hindu CEO Arun Anant and Bombay Samachar director of Gujarati daily Hormusji N Cama.

    Radio Mirchi confirms maiden dividend; 53.6 per cent PAT growth in Q1-2014

    BENGALURU: The Bennett, Coleman & Co. Limited promoted Indian private FM player Entertainment Network (India) Limited (ENIL) which operates FM radio broadcasting stations through the brand Radio Mirchi in 32 Indian cities announced that its shareholders had approved a dividend of 10 per cent for FY-2013.

     

    ENIL’s net profit for the year ended 31 March 2013 was Rs 67.7 crore and total revenue for FY-2013 was Rs 338.4 crore. Considering the consistent good performance of the company year-on-year and the strong cash position in FY-2013, the ENIL board of directors had recommended a maiden dividend of 10 per cent i.e. Rs 1 per equity share of Rs 10.

     

    ENIL reported a 53.6 per cent PAT growth in Q1-2014 as compared to the corresponding quarter of 2013. ENIL’s PAT was Rs 19.92 crore for Q1-2014 and Rs 12.97 crore in Q1-2013.

    ENIL’s PAT for Q1-2014 was however lower by 22.5 per cent than the Rs 25.7 crore in Q4-2013.

     

    Note: Tax expense for the quarter/year ended 31 March 2013 was net of Rs 2.866 crore of excess provision in respect of earlier years and written back pursuant to conclusion of assessment.

     

    Let us look at ENIL’s other figures for Q1-2014

     

    ENIL’s revenue for Q1-2014 stood at Rs 85.2 crore on a consolidated basis, up 23.8 per cent over the Rs 68.87 crore in Q1-2013, but 18.9 per cent lower than the Rs 105 crore for Q4-2013.

     

    ENIL’s EBITDA in Q1-2014 stood at Rs 35.1 crore, up 34.1 per cent as compared to Q1-2013. The company’s EBITDA margin improved from 38.1 per cent to 41.2 per cent in Q1-2014.

     

    Expenditure for Q1-2014 at Rs 63.15 crore was 9.8 per cent more than the Rs 57.5 crore for Q1-2013, but 18.8 per cent lower than the Rs 77.85 crore for Q4-2013.

     

    ENIL spent Rs 10.61 crore towards marketing in Q1-2014, 36.7 per cent more than the Rs 7.76 crore in Q1-2013, but just a little more than a third (35.5 per cent) of the Rs 29.91 crore in Q4-2013.

     

    It paid license fees of Rs 4.688 crore in Q1-2014, 27.5 per cent more than the license fees of Rs 3.677 crore in Q1-2013, but lower by 12.8 per cent than the Rs 5.375 crore in Q4-2013. The company had paid license fees of Rs 18.092 crore in FY-13.

     

    ENIL’s production expense of Rs 3.82 crore in Q1-2014 was 19.7 per cent lower than the Rs 4.76 crore in Q1-2013, but was 8.7 per cent more than the Rs 3.51 crore for Q4-2013.

     

    Employee benefits at Rs 18.99 crore in Q1-2014 was 6.6 per cent higher than the Rs 17.82 crore in Q1-2013, but 8.7 per cent lower than the Rs 20.80 crore for Q4-2013.

     

    ENIL ED and CEO Prashant Panday said, “It’s been a surprisingly strong quarter for media, especially radio broadcasters including Mirchi. It appears advertisers are responding to the slowdown by launching new products, and even more promotional offers. This helps radio. We expect this to continue, even though we expect growth rates to taper off eventually. On Phase III, the radio industry is seeking a rationalisation of reserve fees on the same lines as is happening with 2G reserve fees, as well as an extension of Phase II licenses. We expect policy clarity in the next few months. Lastly, I am happy that the shareholders have approved ENIL’s maiden dividend of 10 per cent.”

  • Lynn and Meenakshi launch Social Access

    MUMBAI: Media veterans Lynn de Souza (former Lintas Media Group chairman and CEO) and Meenakshi Menon (media audit company Spatial Access founder and chairperson) have joined hands to launch a one of a kind initiative named Social Access – India‘s first a communications firm to focus solely on the social sector.

    The core objective of the company is to use strategic communication and creative ideas to re-orient society towards the social sector by building channels among the four key players – NGOs, corporates, government bodies and the society.

    De Souza said, “The vision behind Social Access is to use the power of communications to help ideas travel across cultures, consumers and corporates to build a more equitable society with informed and involved participation from all constituents.”

    Menon added, “Through our core values of equality, responsibility, sustainability and collaboration, Social Access aims to become the bridge between the corporate and the social sector. Monitoring and impact assessment will be a critical component of our offering”.

    The launch of Social Access took place Radio Club in Mumbai on 11 April through an event themed ‘Bee the Change‘ and saw participation from the stakeholders of the company.

    The event had international achievers seeking to inspire audiences with real action. These included Lt Cdr Abhilash Tomy, the first Indian to circumnavigate the oceans solo, nonstop and unassisted, Mark Inglis, the only double amputee in the world to scale Mount Everest who is also Para Olympic silver medallist in cycling and cancer and avalanche survivor Sarah Wilson. The three spoke about overcoming their limitations and ways to battle their fear.

    The event was attended by over 300 guests including 50 children who participated in the demonstration, NGO representatives, corporate head honchos and media.

    Social Access‘ launch event found quite a few supporters like Aquasail (sailboats), Radio Mirchi (venue and radio campaign), Mercury Integrated (alliances), Sound Corporate Communications (PR and media relations) Catalyst (event management), Foxymoron (digital communications) and National Geographic Traveller (clothing).

    De Souza was the face of LMG till she quit the organisation in November 2012. She had a successful run at Lintas having served in various capacities and roles while at the group. The office will be based out of Khar and currently Social Access has a team of five people, with more likely to join in the near future.

    MUMBAI: Niloufer Dundh has resigned from Hungama Digital Media Entertainment as head – integrated media.

    Dundh told Indiantelevision.com that she will take a break for a while before she turns into an entrepreneur and launches her new venture in January-February.
    Over a stint of 3 years at Hungama, she was responsible for monetising properties across all of Hungama‘s lines of businesses like web, mobile, gaming and DTH.

    Prior to joining Hungama, she worked with UTV and Radio Mirchi in Sales division.
