    MUMBAI: The Music Broadcast Private Limited (MBPL) promoted — Radio City brings the ghazal maestro Ustad Gulaam Ali Khan and the lyricist, screenplay writer and poet Javed Akhtar in an exclusive tête-à-tête.

    The conversation will be boardcast on Radio City 91 FM Mumbai on 10 March from 9 to10 pm and on 12 March from 8 to 11 pm.

    Ustad Ghulam Ali and Javed Akhtar will speak on a wide range of subjects like the nature of the music industry in Pakistan and in India, the of elements Punjabi language and songs and the current music scenario.

    The highlight of the show is when Javed Akhtar quizzes Ali Khan on his unique style of rendering ghazals in his heavy, baritone voice and how She creates very subtle vibrations in his voice to convey a whole range of emotions through it.

    MUMBAI: Radio City 91 FM has shown a robust growth in listenership in Delhi. Quoting the latest NRS findings, the radio station said it has seen an unprecedented growth in listenership of 122 per cent in the capital.
     
     
    A strong focus to keep the current listenership base loyal, coupled with innovative strategy to bring in fresh listeners is what has been the secret mantra behind the success, Radio City said in a release. Strategised programming and clever infusion of current chart-busters, mixed with popular retro music is what has kept up the Radio City listener tuned in to the station, the release added.
     
     
    To attract the non-listeners, innovative events like the City Bajao Bike Le Jao contests were run. The success of this contest can be measured by the mind boggling 5 million SMSs received from Delhi by the station through the duration of the 15 day contest.
     
     

    In fact, the Mumbai station kept up the tempo by notching up a 62 per cent increase in the listenership base to strengthen its existing position of the most popular hit music FM station.

    Commenting on the findings, Radio City CEO Apurva Purohit said, “The findings clearly establish that Radio City is the number one choice for the masses of all classes in Mumbai and Delhi.     MUMBAI: AC Nielsen ORG Marg’s wave six of the Radio Audience Measurement in Mumbai favours Radio City once again. 

    While the fifth wave report too had placed Radio City way above rivals in the listenership stakes, the sixth wave report also gives Radio City numero uno status in Mumbai for the period 7 October to 1 December 2003. According to the report, Radio City 91 FM has recorded highest top of mind awareness as well as listenership among all the FM radio stations in Mumbai.

     
    The overall top-of-mind awareness of Radio City was recorded at 35 per cent followed by Radio Mirchi at 21 per cent.

    Radio City 91 FM rules in listenership with the highest cumulative listenership from six am to midnight and across all genders, SEC groups and age groups 12 to 44. The overall listenership of Radio City 91 FM was recorded at 2.4 million against Radio Mirchi at 2.1 million.

    Radio City COO Sumantra Dutta says, “The sixth Wave Report further establishes that Radio City 91 FM is the highest listened to radio station. Our differentiated strategy of playing hit Hindi music coupled with the launch of innovative programming initiatives has helped it retain the most preferred radio station status.”

    The report also indicates that total radio listenership of radio in Mumbai has grown to 5.27 million with an average time spent listening of 147 minutes.

    Radio City 91 FM launches “Radio Awards for Public Service Campaigns”

    NEW DELHI: Radio City 91 FM has announced the launch of “Radio Awards for Public Service” on the theme “Educate the Girl Child” in association with the Amity School of Communication.
     

    Radio City 91 FM will invite advertising agencies to send in entries on the public service theme. From all the entries received, the jury will shortlist the top three. The winning entry will be picked in an on-air contest from three top entries which will be aired on Radio City 91 FM between 6 – 12 November. A panel of judges comprising eminent people from the corporate, advertising and media industry will adjudge all the entries received.

    The three best judged entries would qualify for the final round. In the final round, these three entries would be aired on Radio City for a week and listeners asked to vote for the best of the three. The entry and advertising agency that produces the winning 30-second Hindi promos on ‘Educate the Girl Child’ and gets the maximum number of votes will be awarded the trophy for the best radio public service announcement at a ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Delhi on 16 November, according to an official release.

    Speaking about this initiative, Radio City COO Sumantra Dutta said, “It is solely due to the wide reach that radio can play a vital role in spreading awareness among the masses. In tune with this philosophy, Radio City 91 FM has taken this initiative to reward public service on radio. In doing so, we are inviting organisations to be a part of the team that sensitises the masses about the plight of the girl child and create awareness on this issue.”

    The panel of judges comprises Head IMC Communications Nikhil Nehru, JWT Senior Creative Director and Associate Vice-president Anuja Chauhan Alva, Sanskriti School Principal Gauri Eashwaran, WHO Consultant Ambika Srivastava, Population Council Sr. Programme Associate Dr Shireen Jejeebhoy.

  • Radio City 91 FM celebrates 2nd birthday in Bangalore on 3 July

    MUMBAI: Radio City, the private FM radio station backed by Star, turns two years old on 3 July in the Garden City. The channel has organised several contests and ground promotional events to mark the event.
    An official release claims that for the last 730 days, the radio FM channel has entertained with the latest songs climbing up the charts; interviews, views and opinions from Aishwarya Rai to Rahul Dravid to chief minister S M Krishna. Radio City 91 FM is one of the country’s first private FM stations to launch in Bangalore.
    The release quotes Star India’s radio division COO Sumantra Dutta as saying: “We will consistently aim to strengthen Radio City 91 FM’s position as a non-stop entertainment destination for listeners in the city. New programming with fun filled content and humour has made the station even more attractive and offers the listener a compelling reason to stay tuned 24 hours a day.”
    In Bangalore, the station will give 15 couples a chance to party with the RJs in an anniversary bash at the Amoeba Sports Bar at The Leela. In addition, Radio City has tied up with Bharat Petroleum for free fuel. Radio City along with Bharat Petroleum will give away free fuel worth Rs 10,000 daily for 15 days. Listeners just need to get their car ‘stickered’ with a Radio City 91 FM bumper sticker at any Bharat Petroleum Pure for Sure outlet; and be spotted by the Radio City 91 FM crew. They must then listen to Radio City 91 FM every day to find out if they are one of ten winners of a coupon for Rs 1,000 that day.
    The release claims that Radio City 91 FM is the only network present in top three metros of the country — Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi along with being the sole FM radio station in Lucknow.

  • Prasar Bharati pushing for lottery ads on its channels

    MUMBAI: The phones just don’t stop ringing it seems since Star India-backed Radio City’s mega interactive radio game show went onstream. A month since the launch of Radio City 91 FM Suno Aurr Lakhpati Bano in Mumbai, the show has received over 10 million phone calls, the station claims.

    Launched on October 7, the game show asked questions on air every hour from 8 am to 5 pm. Listeners are able to participate & answer questions via telephone and SMS.

    The simple mechanism of the contest encouraged continuous listening thus building habit, with questions – and opportunities to win – on the top of the hour every hour, and a live draw every night for the day’s super bumper winner. Hourly bumper winners get Rs 1,000 and a chance to get selected for the 9pm super bumper draw. The selected “super bumper winner” is then asked three questions for an initial Rs 1,000. With each correct answer the winnings go up 10 times, up to Rs 100,000.

    Sumantra Dutta, COO, Radio City, was quoted in an official release as saying: “Star has taken the successful game show format from television (Kaun Banega Crorepati) to radio, extending the reach with our audiences across different media.” According to Dutta, the success of the show has led to an increase in retail advertising on Radio City in the last one month.

    Radio City currently operates in Bangalore, Lucknow and Mumbai and expects to begin broadcast in New Delhi within the next few months.

    MUMBAI: It took a while longer than expected but Radio City has finally managed its first lakhpati.

    Suresh Kumar from Hiranandani Estate, Powai, became the first lakhpati on Radio City 91 FM on 11 October. An engineer working with a software company in Andheri, Suresh can thank the traffic jam for allowing him to listen to his radio on his way to work.

    Radio City 91 FM Suno Aurr Lakhpati Bano is one of the game shows that has rewritten the rules of FM radio listening in the city. Questions asked every hour from 8 am to 5 pm along with four options as an answer fetch Rs 1000 for the lucky correct reply along with a chance to get selected for the 9 pm bumper prize of Rs 1,00,000. Radio City that commenced its game show on 7 October, claims it got a million responses the first day itself.
